    Thanks for your comment 🙏I appreciate the encouragement. This video was more complicated and took longer than some of the others partly due to the additional steps of deshrouding. I am glad the content can be useful and I plan to continue to include a deshroud section (when it makes sense) in future teardowns. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the video, now I’m going to repaste the gpu because hot spot temps go up to 92 with nearly 28 degrees delta. Do you recommend thermal pad change for the VRMs? I thought I heard 2mm but I’m not sure. Subbed to the channel.

    @@DrTapeworm Thanks for your comments 🙏 In retrospect, I should have measured the deshrouded card length wise too. I was thinking that the only difference in measurement was the height and I rely on official specs from their website for things that I don't think changes. I was thinking that the heatsink extended far enough where it was reasonably the same length. However, thinking about it more, I do think the deshrouded card was a least a few mm shorter. I don't have the card deshrouded anymore so I can't measure it, but I will plan on measuring the length in future videos. Hope that helps.

  • @vectornetwork

    @vectornetwork

    20 күн бұрын

    Thanks for your comment🙏 If you are willing to open up the card to get to the die, then the next step is to learn how to replace thermal pads. There are ways to save the pads but its best to be prepared. A set of 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0mm pads of 100x100 can cost like $12. t.ly/sqIKI Typically, the thinner the pad, the better the potential heat transfer, so thinner pads are used on the front. For the back, a lot of times the pad is just there as a spacer (so the backplate goes on even), so you'll see thicker ones. The thinner ones rip very easily. My genuine advice is to treat the pads like the paste. It's an extra cost, but its better to do it right. Hope that helps

    @@vectornetwork yeah agreed. I would have liked to have clear instructions for placing the thermal tape on the rog strix, which was absent from the instructions, and the pcb is different on the strix than the tuf. By looking at the back of the ek heatplate, I could figure out where it made sense to put the thermal tape where there were variations from the tuf model. Hopfully I won't need to pull the whole thing apart later.

  • @vectornetwork

    @vectornetwork

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your comment 🙏 Hm, they are comparable. If I remember correctly, they both require only Philips head screws. The PNY one was designed in a manner that I have seen before that makes sense. It was nice that the fans were still attached to the heatsink when it was deshrouded. The TUF equally straightforward in disassembly, although a bit different because its custom to ASUS. The fans came off along with the shroud. The shroud itself is better made than the PNY shroud. The TUF shroud is metallic with a metal fan frame. The PNY shroud is plastic. I would consider them both on par nearly the same for disassembly. Hope that helps. 🙏
