Raidió Teilifís Éireann (Irish pronunciation: [ˈɾˠadʲoː ˈtʲɛlʲəfʲiːʃ ˈeːɾʲən̪ˠ]; Rah-dee-oh teh-leh-FEESH AIR-ən; Radio-Television of Ireland; abbreviated as RTÉ) is a semi-state company and the national public broadcaster of Ireland. It both produces programmes and broadcasts them on television, radio and the Internet. The radio service began on 1 January 1926, while regular television broadcasts began on 31 December 1961, making it one of the oldest continuously operating public service broadcasters in the world. RTÉ also publishes a weekly listing and lifestyle magazine, the RTÉ Guide.
RTÉ is a statutory body, overseen by a board appointed by the Government of Ireland, with general management in the hands of the Executive Board, headed by the Director-General. RTÉ is regulated by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. RTÉ is financed by the television licence fee and through advertising, with some of its services funded solely by advertising, while others are funded solely by the licence fee.
Radio Éireann, RTÉ's predecessor and at the time a section of the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, was one of 23 founding organisations of the European Broadcasting Union in 1950.

Being an avid watcher of RTE and having a lot of fond memories of the idents, this is an incredible video. The early 2000s had the best ones. Well done for putting this together.

I grew up seeing the idents 2006-2013. I always liked seeing them. Gives me a sense of nostalgia

St. Brigid's Cross would make a kind of good Irish style ninja throwing star as well as religious symbol.
I remember RTV rentals had a, pre launch RTE2 logo which matched the RTE with the St Bridget's Cross. Never made it to air when it launched in 1978. It would have worked though
God almighty RTE badly needed to invest in more UHF transmitters back in the day. It was disgusting the picture quality some in Ireland had to suffer. Must have been a real eyeopener when DTT came along.

Also, by the way, I found that "Raidio Teléfis Eiréann" means "Irish Television Radio".

It adapted the name RTÉ as a result of the merging of both Raidio Eireann and Teilifis Eireann in 1966.

It did. Mentions of the Tokyo subway terrorist attacks in the Digimon anime drew complaints from Irish parents, concerned about the mention of terrorism on kids' telly at all after the Troubles.

I'd like to see RTE redo their old idents in HD for certain shows or special occassions, like the BBC does on BBC One and Two.

Would love that. They touched up their old static logos for the 50th anniversary ages ago, but they understandably won't use those. The other question is of the master tapes/files surviving, or if HD versions can be upscaled out of well-preserved broadcast tapes.

The latest RTE 2 intros are rubbish. It all went downhill when the N2 logo came around, like what are they about? What's the message they're trying to convey about the channel? That it's pure garbage? Completely out of touch with the viewer.

N2 was drawing a lot of teenage and young-adult viewers in the late 1990s, between US animated sitcoms, arthouse cinema, and Monday night comedy. One can reasonably presume decision-makers hopped on the coolness of the age - the Wipeout videogames, cyberpunk/Y2K imagery, anime/science fiction, etc.
