    The RUles Encyclapedia is one of the most products in RPG history. Really good rules set.

    I love the idea of introducing NPC's organically, allowing the players to become attached to one, and then inflicting that NPC with the death curse! Great idea! Great stuff! Thanks!

    I always try to integrate things into the campaign and give the characters a reason to pursue the storyline other than, "The DM got this big new shiny book, let's play it". lol

    Good video Cap! I have received my copy of the Rules Cyclopedia and I think you will be pleased when you get yours. Tomb of Annihilation sounds interesting. I like the sand-box friendly type modules. I have Tyranny of Dragons for the last year or so and one criticism I would have of the first part Hoard of the Dragon Queen is that it is exceptionally rail-roady. Cheers!

    Thanks for the info. I had the old PDF for the RC and the new scan looks awesome, so I'm certain the print will be good. I've gotten quite a few PODs from the DM's guild, so I'm excited about this one.

    I think Chult is a peninsula not an island , but I do agree that an sea adventure to get the PC's to Port Nyanzaru would be better . Glad that your back with a new vid

    It was a peninsula until 4e, then became an island, then fixed back to being a peninsula in 5e.

    I am with you on these book-length adventures. I would much rather that WOTC just publish a book full of all the Adventurer's League one-offs. I thought the 4th edition's world Nentir would have been awesome if they only developed it a little more. I started working on doing the research to put it all together with references (in modules and novels) to as much as I could find, but eventually i just gave up. I like this idea of a small map that you can develop with a lot of depth -- a few cities & villages, each with its own NPCs (complete with description and maybe a catch phrase) and buildings, plus some history & adventure sites you can go to and explore. YOu don;t need a huge world -- you are better off with something small.

    Man, I get soooo jelly of you when I watch your vids sir.Not only did you meet Mr. Gygax but you also still play D&D.My group broke up years ago and I now live in a small town.Not much demand for people almost 50 wanting to play D&D unfortunately.I get my solace now from various computer games but I admit I miss rolling dice and using miniatures.You have a great channel and I'm really looking forward to more of your memory-evoking videos.Thank you from western Canada.

    Thanks for the vid! Liked your death save progression idea. What i disliked about Xanathars is it being a mixed Player/DM book. Most players will get this book and wont be able to resist the DM section, taking away some of the magic a DM can create

    I think Xanathar's Guide is the best source book outside of the corebooks. TOA is the best module. Finally a variety of enemies instead of just more and more cultists/giants/dragon cultists. Plus it has a city port, jungle and dungeon exploration. I would change the start like you suggested and probably play Sunless Citadel first and have the characters at level 3 when they get to Chult. Rules Cyclopaedia is great, even though I still have my Basic and Expert set after all these years. (I can't find the Companion set and never got to play the other two...) Good stuff!

    i was just thinking you could add some kind of risk to sleeping in armour like they have to roll a dice to see weather they get a full nights rest or end up tossing and turning all night with out any sleep but the negative can also be positive because if your party gets attacked in the night that player will not be caught un-aware.

    The goal of Princes of the Apocalypse is to only shut down a single node. They need to latch onto a single cult and defeat that one group, maybe even use their rival cult as back up. Then when they destroy the node the rival cult realizes all the cults work for Tharizdun and gang up on the now exposed players.

    I had alot of doubts about whether or not to allow wearing armor without a penalty during long rests. In the end it did not gave any penalty because soldier IRL now and in centuries past have slept in armor, no problem. The problem arises when they do so for long periods of time. But my players ae great RP'ers. They wear their armor while resting in big dungeons or in other dangerous environments but they don't while resting in an inn.

  • @captcorajus

    @captcorajus

    My issue comes from when players insist on wearing armor 24/7. In the dungeon, sleeping at the Inn, during the formal gathering at the palace, etc. That's when you sort of have to say something. As I said, I'm not trying to beat anyone over the head with rules, but there is a limit to how long one can wear armor. And yes, people did sleep in armor I'm not arguing that at all, but what I am saying is that its not the same as a quality, restful sleep in a bed. You wake up with chafing under your arm where a strap rubbed you the wrong way all night, or a back muscle that twitches from the poor sleeping position, etc. In game terms, this is represented by fewer hit dice being returned, and levels of exhaustion not being recovered.

    Names are just more created in old-school dungeons and dragons. There is a reason why 5E remakes more than write anything fully original.

  • @jeffallison09
    @jeffallison096 жыл бұрын

    Perhaps you should start a different channel to deal with the 5e crap--which is neither old school nor retro. I'd much prefer to just see your actual old school retro game reviews instead.

  • @captcorajus

    @captcorajus

    I can only disagree with your assertion. 5E is very 'retro' in its approach (See 5E review OSR your game) though it also integrates a lot of modern aspects of RPGs as well. Starting a 'new' channel is simply out of the question due to the way KZread handles content. In addition, based on my views, comments and likes the majority of my subscribers are satisfied with this arrangement. The real solution is for me to just produce videos on a more consistent basis, which is something I'm addressing as of this writing. :)
