This was such a great message. I wanted to mention though, Luke’s genealogy is Mary’s genealogy. She wasn’t a nobody. While Jesus was absolutely an example of lifting the oppressed and calling out the powerful, I think we need to be careful not to do what evangelicalism has done, i.e. reading things into the story that aren’t there to strengthen our doctrines. Mary was, like Joseph, descended from King David, and Luke illustrates that. The beginning of the genealogy mentions Joseph but the father mentioned is different from Matthew’s genealogy which is indicative that this is Jesus’ biological genealogy through Joseph’s father-in-law. Mary was sidelined because she was believed to be an adulteress and because she was a woman with no rights, not because she was an orphan or a person with an unimportant family.

and incredibly important thing to mention and i couldn’t have said it better myself! Obviously a small imperfection to this great message from the person we are oh so lucky to have, Fr. Zach Lambert. Keep up your craft, sir.
