"I do not permit a woman to teach" | Theology Stories

Ойын-сауық

The Bible is filled with examples of women preaching, teaching, and pastoring, so why does this verse (1 Timothy 2:12) seemingly say women aren’t allowed to teach? Join us this Sunday as Lindsay Contreras and Zach W. Lambert preach through this difficult passage.
We are here and live-streaming every Sunday at 9:30am CT. If you’d like to connect with Restore, go to www.restoreaustin.org/connect.

Great message! It’s amazing to behold God’s nature when we read the Bible fully and with the relevant contexts in mind.

Will you please shed some light on Deuteronomy 22:5 that has been presented by a brother that women shouldn’t teach? Is this symbolic that men are superior over women?

Deuteronomy 22:5 is about gendered clothing, not about teaching. Also, what clothing is considered "masculine" or "feminine" changes in every place and culture. A great example is "masculine pastors" decrying skinny jeans as "feminine" in the early 2000s and then preaching in them a decade later.

Hi Lindsay. No hate from me but I disagree with your opinion that a preacher with "a different sexual orientation" must be regarded by the church as equally acceptable as a preacher who happens to be female and gifted. While showing love to every soul, we should seek to guide erring ones into the absolute truth of God's word. Again, without hate.

Hey there, I disagree with you on the sexual orientation part, no hate tho. However I've had many lgbtq+ Christian friends that have got on their hands and knees and begged God to take away anything that is sinful in His eyes and fasted for days. Massacred themselves on the alter of religion because that's what they thought God wanted. And in the end God didn't take away their attraction to the same sex. Or them wanting and dreaming of being a different gender or no gender at all. And it tore them up inside and what they realized, is God never brought up that issue because it wasn't one in God's eyes. For instance when I sin and I do something wrong I feel it. When I lie I know that I did something wrong when I hurt people on purpose I feel God gently tell me I shouldn't do that. But when I dress in men's clothes and wear my bow tie and my hat and go by they/them, God doesn't tell me it's wrong. In fact I had one time where it was the opposite. I was planning a non-binary outfit and it wasn't coming together but sort of did. So I went to the dressing room to try the outfit on so I could tweak it and hanging on a clothes rack in the dressing room was the item that MADE that outfit. I kid you not I told my sister I couldn't have come up with a better thing to make that outfit if I searched the whole store. It had to be God and when I found that clothing item, I kid you not, a song was playing about how God is in every little thing we do and every little thing that happens to us. God affirmed me in that moment.

Women cannot exercise authority over men. 1 Tim 2 is very clear. decons and elders are men, no condition given for women! This is not inequality. Its just different roles. Women can still teach children and other women. Her message is based on feelings, feelings cannot explain scripture! Gifts are only valid in the contexts in which we can use it. For example if someone in the church has gift to preach the word does not mean he can start preaching. We still reserve it to pastors only in most chirches, is it not inequality? 😂 A person with gifts can lead a bible study etc instead of preaching a sermon! That is not restriction of gifts.
