Royal Enfield Meteor 350 - Buddy enjoys a rare BREAK in the WIND

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Fortunately, on Wednesday of last week, the winds briefly dropped and the sun came out.
So I grabbed my helmet and saddled up Buddy, my Royal Enfield Meteor 350, and we set off to film the road to Uleila del Campo.
The footage I got was enough for two videos, so not wanting to test your patience too much, I have split the video into two parts.
This is part one and part two will be coming next Tuesday.
It was very fortunate that I managed to film this when I did because since then the winds have returned and the weather has been consistently cold and terrible !
The forecast is predicting the end of the windy season towards the end of this week and the temperatures are set to rise again. Here's hoping that the forecast is correct because these storms are really starting to wear me down !
You can check out my interview with Quinn from the Quinn Peaks Biker channel here if you want to : ‪@quinnpeaksbiker‬
Thanks due to Dave Ricketts for the W650 (!) and Willow pictures !!!

Thanks Exmouth. Yeah, that is a great spot for some drone shots and I did intend to capture more footage in other spots during the ride but right at the first flight, the drone misbehaved and disappeared of its own volition. I did manage to get it to come back but it was very nearly gone forever. So after that I was a bit nervous about flying it and hence kept this flight very short and didn't feel confident in letting it get too far away from me. It was very odd. It didn't return to home when it lost signal, like it is supposed to. It was just hovering "somewhere". But I managed to set off in the general direction, signal got restored and then I managed to fly it back manually. Yes, one more part of Quinn's interview to come. Grumpy ER with a hangover 😂 Thanks for watching Dave and look forward to ER-mageddoning with you again soon. I'm thinking that I might do the "Hot Chip Challenge" I mentioned previously. You know, just to mix things up a bit. "Dave" can then have the night off 😝 Anyway, take care in the meantime Steve and love to you and the Exmouth posse ! El Outro and Robbie

Hi Peter. Well, you will not be surprised at all to hear that I spent longer choosing the music than I did editing the rest of the video 😂 That seems to be a recurring theme 🤔 I'm glad that you enjoyed it, makes the effort worthwhile. I was pretty happy with the end result of that first part of the video. Something a bit different before we went into "another normal ER video" *yawn* 😂 I like to mix things up from time to time, just to keep you lot awake 😇 The two new musics in the intro were introduced because some weird Korean bloke put in a copyright claim. First for the second piece of music and once I changed that, he came back and did it for the first piece of music as well. I dare say that I could have got YT to check if that was a justifiable claim ( possibly, because the video was monetised and therefore "commercial" in the eyes of the law ) but I just thought it easier to change the music for something similar which is licensed for commercial use. Life's too short. I always take the path of least resistance ! After filming this video, we had another eight days of terrible storms but yesterday the weather turned and we should have warm temperatures and moderate winds until the middle of next week. So it's looking promising for another ride at the weekend. If I don't spend it cleaning Buddy, which is another job which desperately needs doing ! Cheers Peter, take care and get out when you can ! Love from Spain, Garry & Ruby

@@economicalrides Ah, greetings from a very wet north, Garry and Ruby. No I can well imagine you tirelessly wading through acres if not hectares of music and indeed some that cannot be thought of as anything but noise. So you've done well to find such an ideal. Stiil this you tubing certainly keeps those brain cells of yours operating at full tilt. Perhaps the almond blossom will be full out next ride. Monday was almost a decent day, save the cold. But oak trees are just starting to get leaves on and daffodils are to be seen everywhere. My garden birds are definitely getting frisky despite the rain. @@Lanes-Explorer5733 Hello Peter. The almond blossom has been and gone unfortunately. It comes out from the beginning of February. Unfortunately, as you now know, that was when the storm winds started and they have continued into this week. So there was blossom but it was quickly torn off the trees by the wind. So as much as I was looking forward to riding somewhere where I know there would have been a lot of it, this year a) I couldn't ride and b) the blossom was long gone anyway. But hopefully I'll get lucky next year. Heck, I might even see some almond blossom 😝 It was nice here yesterday and today it's going to be 19C, so there is at least a hint that spring might finally be arriving. I think I should be able to ride again at the weekend, which would be helpful ! Thanks Peter. Take care and good luck with whatever project it is you are working on today 😉 Hi to Benji ! Hi Garry, glad you’ve been able to get out and about on buddy and that looks like a fantastic road, the weather has improved here in Scotland, dryer but still very cold, I think it’s going to be a set of heated grips for the new meteor next, already added a few extras, as you do 😂 pannier rails for soft bags, a fly screen, chain oiler and a tyre pressure monitor, it seems to be developing into a mini touring / adventure/ bagger bike 😂 it’s definitely got plenty of character and such fun, thanks for being one of the people that introduced me to this incredible little bike. Hi Mike ! Thanks for the pic. Is it okay if I flash it up in a future video ( steady on "Dave" !!! 😂) ? I'd be happy to, if you are okay with that. Just as a follow up to the mention I gave you. I see the pannier rails and soft bags. Very smart. Buddy is my "Baby bagger" and I think the Meteor can carry that look off very well. You just need to keep the bags in proportion with the size of the bike, which you have clearly done. You could definitely go touring on A, B and C roads with a Meteor. They'll thump away merrily to get you to your next destination, no problem. I would love to do a long trip on Buddy but unfortunately "dog life" means that I can't really be away for more than a few hours at a time. I'm glad if I helped you to find the right bike for you Mike. I've done 10k km on Buddy in two and a half years and still love him. If you like your bike now, I'm sure that your story will be similar to mine. Cheers Mike. I hope you can hook up with Wee Mark for a ride sometime. That would be nice. Thanks Quinn. Yes, that is a great spot for getting some nice drone footage. I will return in the future to fly again and see what I can capture. This was a bit of a rush job and I didn't end up with much useable footage because the first attempt didn't end well. The drone was freaking out and just went off on its own and eventually I lost all signal and all control. I managed to regain signal by riding off in the general direction and flew the drone back manually. But after that I didn't trust the drone, but was determined to at least get A BIT of footage for the video. So those images were recorded after "the rogue drone incident" and I didn't have 100% confidence in the drone, so kept the flight short and safe ! I hope a few people from here pop over to view your interview. In part two I do actually jokingly tell them not to bother but only from a personal point of view, not because the videos themselves are not worthwhile ! No offence intended, I was only joking !!! 😬 Hopefully Part One will get them hooked and they'll stay and watch the rest ! 🤞 Cheers buddy. When are you getting the 452 ? Must be due soon ? Thanks Shardlake. Well, don't get used to the drone footage because it was a right faff 😂 Actually it was very stressful filming this time because the drone became sentient and made a run for freedom. It also didn't return to base once it lost signal, like it was supposed to. But fortunately I managed to track it down, give it a jolly good thrashing and knock some sense into it. When I got home I flew three batteries without a reoccurrence, so clearly these drones need a firm hand ! After this day, as predicted, we had eight days of wind and rain. Today is apparently the start of a few decent days once more. Yesterday we had 3C and today we had 19C. Crazy variance in the weather here from day to day ! Hi Kristopher, that's interesting but doesn't really surprise me. There will be a reason why the "Spaghetti Westerns" were filmed here. Cheaper and less distance to travel for those Italian directors, yet with similar scenic backdrops. Actually, it's quite interesting to hear how a mini-industry was built up here AROUND the Spaghetti Westerns. Local people became very good set builders and costume makers etc. That in an area where previously there was only a little bit of agriculture and not a lot of work around. It had quite a big impact when the local area was no longer of interest to the film industry and they pulled out. The area around Tabernas really was a "Mini-Hollywood" back in the day, with many people working exclusively for the film industry ! I'd definitely like to ride in Arizona and New Mexico but fortunately for me, like an Italian movie director, I apparently have something comparable right outside my doorstep 🙂 Cheers Kristopher, Garry & Ruby.

Didn't mean that to sound like an advert for a carpet warehouse 😂 The yellow is a great colour, really attracts attention. The best colour in the range in my opinion. Don't really understand why they would discontinue it, but as long as we have ours, I suppose it doesn't really matter ! You've made a great choice with the Meteor, I'm sure you'll absolutely love yours as I do mine. I've had Buddy for almost three years now and I still smile every time I set off. Almost certainly the best bike I've ever owned because it just delivers the pure enjoyment of riding a bike in a way which no other bike so far has managed. HI Martin, no, I'm pretty sure you weren't riding in that part of the Filabres. This whole ride is a circuit for me, it really is a beautiful ride taking in several really pretty roads. It would be a nice little ride to do together, very scenic with at least one bar for a little break along the way. I thought the drone footage was a bit shoddy and most of it ended up on the cutting room floor because my hands were still shaking from the previous flight where the drone went rogue on me and just flew off into the distance. It didn't even return to him when it lost the signal ! Fortunately I did the right thing. I rode the bike in the general direction with the controller on the bars. Signal was intermittently being restored as I got closer, I pulled over and one of the times the signal came back I managed to quickly hit return to home and it did as it was told. It was nerve wracking to say the least. I almost didn't bother putting it up again but was really determined to come back with at least some aerial footage, so I did this brief and very nervous flight ! When I got home I flew three batteries and the fault never returned, so I guess it was just one of those days ! I was intending to film some more drone footage for the second part of the ride, which is the other side of the mountains but by that time I decided to cut my losses and not risk any more flights ! Maybe next time ! Cheers Martin. If you want to ride the roads of these two videos together, it can be arranged. I am always happy to do this ride again and again ! Take care, Garry & Ruby

@@martintraffordmoorlandbike7121 Hi Martin. Yes. I'm seriously thinking that my next camera will be a DJI. I see that Itchy Boots wasn't happy with the image quality of the Insta360ONE ( the Insta360 non 3D camera ) which was a camera that I had considered before buying my second Hero9. So if the Insta360ONE is no good and I am looking for an alternative to GoPro, that really only leaves DJI. They seem to be gaining in popularity as a moto vlog camera, so probably an excellent choice. I will never get a 360 camera because I can't "unsee" some of the distortions you get in the footage. Those cameras also add an extra step to the workflow because you have to first select the angle for all of the clips in the footage before exporting it into your project. So no, I won't be bothering with that. Fixed FOV is my preferred type of video, personally. The drone thing was weird. The drone was jittery on take off, which was probably a sign that I should have powered off and started again. It got about 100 metres away and suddenly I was getting weak signal warnings. Before I could turn back it said "no connection". So then I could do nothing. I had no view of where it was in the app and I couldn't send any commands from the remote, because it had lost the drone. I very nearly thought "sod it" ! I have DJI Refresh and I had a screen recording of the flight, so DJI would probably have replaced it without issue. But once I'd calmed myself down I decided to head off in that direction with the remote and sure enough the signal was starting to be restored and finally I had control once more. Very odd though. I then removed the battery and put another one in. I then flew at least ten times further away with absolutely no connection warnings. So my guess is that the drone just didn't initialise correctly that first time, although I had 30+ GPS satellites and no warnings on the screen 🤷‍♂ I have heard in many KZread videos that if your DJI drone is doing odd things on take off DO NOT START THE FLIGHT but try again from scratch. That seems to have been the case here but it was quite windy up there and I thought that the drone's jerky movements were just its attempts to counter the wind. But it didn't do the same on the second launch, so no, clearly it was having issues on the first boot up ! Cheers Martin. Enjoy your new camera ! Garry

Hi Garry and Ruby. What a gorgeous ride out on those lovely dry roads. Even a bit of `goat action` thrown in 🐐😂. What other biking channel gives you goat action and `sossidge` action, in the same video? Thank you so much for the shoutout and for showing the W650 and Willow. Great to see you out and about at the beginning of, what we hope will be, a good summer. Love to Ruby from me and from Willow. Cheers Garry Dave and Willow 🐶

I know Dave ! Goat action AND "sossidge" action in one video, let alone one channel !!! Also some motorbikes thrown in for the weird people that like that sort of thing ! This is the place to come for top quality entertainment of broad appeal, clearly 😂 I was very happy to show your beautiful W650 and the adorable little Willow to the world Dave, so thanks for letting me do so ! After this, the weather did indeed turn back to crap for 8 days but today is the first day of a supposed few of decent weather once again. Looking good for another ride at the weekend 👍🏻 Cheers Dave and Willow, Garry & Ruby

Thank you, it was nice to see the photos of the bike and Willow. We did have some nice weather last week but it has been pretty shite here since then. I hope you get another great ride. Free and worth every penny of that ! 😂 The ride down the other side of the one we rode up at the end there is also very nice, apart from a marble bearing mountain which they have hacked about trying to get at the marble. But the road has lots of bends and the hacked up mountain is large and imposing nonetheless. That whole ride is a circuit and is a wonderful route for just enjoying your bike and the scenery. It needs to be repeated multiple times and probably will be given compatible weather and time ! Take care of each other you two and good luck with the Kwacker ! Garry & Ruby

Awesome winding roads and so quiet! A great place to be a nuisance on a Supermoto! 😁 Do you get speed traps on those roads? Ruby's ears looking a little more elegant and a bit less windswept this week! 😊

  • @economicalrides

Hi Ken ! Supermoto eh ? Sounds a bit spicy for me but I like the sound of it ! Well, we do have a few permanent speed cameras to worry about, but you quickly learn where they are. But then we also have to deal with mobile speed controls which can pop up anywhere. But with Spain being such a big country with relatively few police to cover vast rural areas, you'd have to be fairly unfortunate to ride into one on a Sunday ride IMO. I think most people here in the sticks certainly drive/ride as if there are no speed limits. I try to stay close to the speed limits but I also try to maintain an enjoyable pace on these twisty roads. One of the great things about the 350s is that even if you do get caught speeding, you are unlikely to be doing much more than the speed limit 🙂 If the road is twisty enough, you can still have plenty of fun at near legal speeds ! Yes, after weeks of all that wind, Ruby's ears are finally settling down again 😂 Cheers Ken ! Hugs to the doggos ! Garry & Ruby

Then chroma key out everything else ( which will be a nightmare because of Ruby's hairs ) and then putting some drone footage behind that. It could work. The hard part will be getting Ruby to not shake the camera off and deliver me some decent footage when she is wearing it. Leave it with me Blake, leave it with me 😂

Great video Garry..Very good drone videos…Great flying..What drone do you use? I noticed your roads look to be in pretty good shape. Hi David. Thanks for the kind words. The drone footage was filmed with my DJI Mini 3 Pro drone, which I bought at the end of last year. Unfortunately I often can't use it, because there is a no-fly zone covering most of the places where I would usually ride. But this video was in an area with no restrictions, so I was finally able to use it as intended ! Yes, the roads here in Almería province are almost always well maintained. Cross the border into Granada province and it's a different story though ! I think Almería must be one of the best parts of Spain for really enjoying motorcycles. I hear more and more that the roads in the UK are being maintained less and less. I even see it in other people's videos ! It must be really apparent when you ride a road that you ride regularly and you see just how much it has worsened every time you go out. We used to always complain about roadworks but I imagine that these days, in the UK, they would be seen as a cause for great celebration ! How times change eh ? It's a real shame but hopefully things will start to improve soon. Avoid the potholes and bodged road repairs as best you can and enjoy your bike David. Take care and thanks again for your kind words ! Garry & Ruby

@@BlakesPipes Hi Blakester. So presumably you buy baccy online ? That seems to be more or less impossible over here, probably because of taxation and licensing. I have managed to find the odd online cigar shop in Europe and often they also sell some pipe tobacco but their prices are astronomical. Unfortunately I think I am going to be limited to whatever my local tobacconist has in stock. Or of course, if I am ever in a different town or city, pop into a shop there and perhaps find something different and interesting. But hopefully I'll find something decent locally. I'm definitely going for tins rather than pouches because it will need to keep for a while, especially if I add a second or third tin to the collection later on.
