    Hey by the time your done with all this why not add an extra grand to what you would have done to the Enfield and get a DRZ 400. Better in every way and maintenance interval's are few and far between. Himalayan's are cool and I get it but they are just to heavy for what they offer. Even a DR 650 is lighter than the Himalayan. Hell every clown and their brother inlaw makes aftermarket parts for a DRZ. Raise it, lower it, more power, less power for fuel mileage and add a larger tank list goes on and on. Turn it into a super moto if your bored on the weekend and you have a completely different bike. I like the way Him's look (WW2 British messenger) but when you dig into them there is a reason they are only 5 grand. If your Indian in India you can get them for 2500. Leave it alone or step up to something better. Even Itchy is riding a CRF250L now but I'm sure she is going back to Peru to continue on her Enfield. GL

    What happened to the to the air filter 3:28 ? It seems like it has been distorted due to some reason . I want to like these bikes, the 650 twin motor y transmission are interesting, especially when rebuilt w an S&S 865 kit. But here’s my issue, the alleged value as the RE bike have an appealing price tag. Yet the quality is by all accounts cheap. So after replacing all the parts to upgrade the bike you’re still left a frame that is sub standard. The extra weight is a red flag as heavier steel is of lesser quality as it’s mixed with impurities such as lead and ore. If it was certified Chromoly steel that would make this point moot, yet there are videos online of the Himalayan frame snapping off at the head-stem and other failures. So is it cost effective to buy a low priced bike that needs a boatload of of parts to bring it up to quality only to spend the time and money to do this to end up with a bike that costs on par with say a Triumph for example, but the kicker is all this work is now held together by a chassis of questionable steel quality at best? I just don’t see the perceived price savings value. In fact it seems like a poor investment with no cost saving but rather the converse as well as exposure to risk of frame failure. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @MCCJustMotos

    @MCCJustMotos

    Jeff, I have not heard of any issues with Himalayan frames post the BS3 models. BS4 models onward, the only ones allowed to export (they are on BS6 now) had metallurgy changed and even more so for the export market. No issues across the board on frame for over 4 years. There are 1000's of owners putting many hard miles on...sure there are little things here and there, but I've seen the same issues on many manufactures models I've owned. - Cheers.

However, having said that, I am more excited about the launch of the BSA 650 which will be first launched in Britain. I hope it will be a liquid cooled mill producing 70-80horses and can cruise at 160-170kmph the whole day. I also hope that BSA won't be following RE and restrict their bike to Britain's A2 licensing norms.

  • @kyakaruvlogs2784

    @kyakaruvlogs2784

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@MCCJustMotos Well the RE 650 twins have been tuned to comply to Britain's A2 licensing norms. As per Britain's licensing norms, a rider starts out with a A1 license and then when they are 19 can apply for A2 licensing. After a few years with the A2, they can then go on full throttle with the big bikes. For A2 licensing, the motorcycle cannot cross 47bhp. So manufacturers restrict their bikes performance to comply to these norms. So basically what it means is that RE is targeting at 19 year olds with the 650 twins. A properly tuned RE 650 will easily produce 65bhp at the crank. This just shows how important the British market is to Royal Enfield. This is why I hope BSA won't adopt RE's strategy.

That all being said it still filters w/in manufacture recommendations and there has never ever ever in the history of any vehicular operations been ANY reported engine failures reported because of using a K&N filter nor even studies showing long term engine longevity degradation. Conversely there have been plenty of studies showing engine and hp performance gains! Also, good thing Himalayan engines have such robust tolerances!

    I ride dual sport (adventure) off road and I very briefly honestly DID consider the R E Himalayan ...however the money required to improve appreciably is a total deal killer ! I have no trouble even saying spending on this bike is very much like "feeding oats to a dead horse" WHY? you ask? Well the motorcycle is GROSSLY overweight and under-powered....yes you can squeeze a bit more power from this motor but the expense to reward ratio is dismal at best.....my advice? just save up and buy a model that ACTUALLY honestly POSSESSES real potential....hint it is NOT this bike! Either enjoy this bike for what it is? OR simply buy something ELSE! Even a fricken Kawi KLR puts this bike to SHAME! And trust me I KNOW this Himalayan is very cool looking....it LOOKS like the real deal . But honestly? SO lacking IF you are looking for anything even remotely adequate? THIS bike wold cost WAY more than its worth to even try

    Nigel, Thanks much for the watch and thoughts. It’s cool that you considered the Himi, but I completely understand you not. I’m probably the opposite you, I too ride ADV (and manu other in my fleet). The think that is most clear to me about the Himi compaired to the others I’ve ridden is that it is the definition of “ the sum is better than the parts” Tons less power than others (but better torque) makes the bike more Capable on and off-road compared to the KLR. It’s smoother than DRZ-400’s on-road and - fraction of the cost. It off-road chops will surprise, but you got to ride it different than others (more tractor like). But, don’t take my word (even though you might get a kick of my 22 episod Maryland to Montan series) watch the #1 watched Himalayan Review where the KLR was the let down not the Himilayan.. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gIWro5etaMbUm6g.html Bur, I do agree don’t go crazy trying to spend tons of $$$ getting a few HP out of the 411cc mill. But $300 for 18% more power…umm sure if you like, that’s not a bad return on investment in my humble opinion.

    Can't see the point in it at all, just get a bigger bike with more power.

    Well..Does it NEED more power? absolutely not, but I’ve never really been one to turn down cheap ~20% more horsepower...but to each their own. I have much more powerful bikes but this fits a nice niche. Cheers Chris!

    @@MCCJustMotos I hear ya. Every bike I get I always add the cheapest power upgrades I can like a K&N air and oil filter, good spark plugs. Nothing wrong with grabbing a few more ponies, LBS foot of torque, or MPGs when the chance comes.

    SO? Let's just say you spend the thousands and actually manage to DOUBLE the power in order to make it a serious ride? Elephant in the ROOM! It is STILL a GROSSLY overweight PIG which now is overtaxing the HELL out of the rest of the drive train! Ignoring that lets just say you go all out trying to bring the chassis up to par with the power? WHAT could you even DO?? Be honest now? What? Seriously? change out the forks? Custom fab linkage and swing arm and buy a decent shock? NOTHING you can do will get around the fact it is q hopeless endeavor...been there done that on other such fiasco....I would spare anyone of such! Only reason to buy a Himalayan is IF you need that price point and are happy with what that gets you....then? go for it! I totally get THAT! Otherwise?? WTF?? Just fricken BUY more bike!

    I don’t think we are as far apart as you think. I would NOT spend thousands on this bike to double power, add new forks, doesn’t need it. I’ve driven cross country (mostly off-road), including an Iron Butt 1000 miles in a day rides, and can tell you the bike does not need it. It will hold its own with much more expensive bikes (I’ve rode with them ;) ), and it’s a better long-haul comfy, smoother bike than bikes that almost double the cost (I’m looking at you DRZ-400 & KLR 650). Would I spend $300 for a 18% more power..sure, does the bike need it? Nope. kzread.info/head/PL0LSKuqkTCdjv5iRiSD3iYnFumwcuaZr8
