Roy Scheider was a talented actor best known for his iconic roles in films like Jaws, The French Connection, and All That Jazz. Born in 1932 in New Jersey, Scheider initially excelled as an athlete, competing as an amateur welterweight boxer and posting an impressive record of 11 wins and 1 loss. However, he soon traded in his boxing gloves for the stage, studying drama at Rutgers University and Franklin and Marshall College.
Scheider's breakout role came in 1971's The French Connection, earning him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. However, his most famous role was as police chief Martin Brody in Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster Jaws. Scheider's everyman charm and memorable delivery of lines like "You're gonna need a bigger boat" helped make the film a massive success.
Throughout the 70s, Scheider turned in acclaimed performances in films like Marathon Man, Sorcerer, and All That Jazz, the latter of which earned him another Oscar nomination, this time for Best Actor. While his career cooled a bit in the 80s and 90s, he still appeared in notable films like Blue Thunder, 2010: The Year We Make Contact, The Russia House, Romeo is Bleeding, and The Rainmaker.
In 1993, Scheider made a successful transition to television with the sci-fi series seaQuest DSV, though he later openly criticized the show's creative direction. He remained active in film, television, and theater roles in his later years while also dedicating time to his family and community in Sag Harbor, New York.
Sadly, Scheider passed away in 2008 at the age of 75 after a battle with multiple myeloma. He fought valiantly against the disease for several years, but ultimately succumbed to complications from a staph infection. His death was a tremendous loss for his family, friends, and the acting community.

@@FactsVerse Could you do a story about Brad Renfro. He was in so many things when he was young- The Client, Sleepers, The Cure, Apt. Pupil, Bully and he had a short, tragic life. He died close to the death of Heath Ledger, his star had all but faded by that time and I feel like there aren't a lot of stories that cover his life and mention all the great roles he played while he was here. - Thank you for considering.
He was great in Jaws, all the cast were. He did one dud movie, 52 Pick-up, and that was due to the script. Rest in peace, Chief Brody.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my mom in November 2007 & then only a couple months later, my dad also suddenly passed away in February 2008. I definitely can relate to that painful feeling of loss and the void of emptiness that accompanies it. Although we are strangers my thoughts are with you & know that it does get somewhat easier to manage with the passing of time. Please take care. I wish you nothing but happiness & strength in the days ahead.❤

Roy Scheider was a great and blessed actor. Made his debut in the French Connection but it was Jaws that put him on the map. I like him in Marathon Man, Blue Thunder, Seaquest, other films he was in and portraying Frank Castle's father in the Punisher. It's Jaws, in my opinion, that was the best one of all 4. They should stayed with one, Jaws 2 was fairly ok. JAWS 3 could had been better, Jaws the revenge: A J-O-K-E!! Famous lines from Roy In Jaws,oh course, "You're gonna need a bigger boat"! And just before killed th shark by shooting the tank in the shark's mouth- "SMILE, YOU SON OF A-"- BOOM!!! AND " I used to hate the water"! I miss him a lot. Res in peace. 😞🙏❤️🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊

According to FV EVERYTHING IS TRAGIC. 😂 For the love of God please buy a thesaurus! There are other words out there. This video will no doubt be followed by one where FV unearths some bombshell about him assuming its true but can never be confirmed because he's dead and cannot tell us either way, right? The only thing "tragic" here is FV's predictability in believing negativity = higher view counts & theres no real potential for consequence if theyre wrong because most subjects are no longer alive to defend or confirm the content you feature on them. And this constructive critism will no doubt be followed with some bot generated response thanking me for watching this video. LOL!!

You people that get such importance from getting your comment first, must be under the age of 12. Would you admit that is the ONLY thing of importance in your life? Try putting that effort into doing something good for the world. If you live near a beach, lake or river, go pick up trash. Maybe you can be the FIRST to do so.

Peace be upon those who follow guidance O you who read my words, save yourselves, for by God, Jesus, peace be upon him, will not benefit you on the Day of Judgment. Please, search for Islam. Read the Qur’an. Do not bet on following the wrongdoers, lest they admit you to Hell to abide therein forever and ever. Take my words seriously. If God guides you and you are upright, you will enter Gardens as wide as the heavens and the earths, and you will have therein whatever you desire. Don't bet on them, please
