Its really hard to get leaned over with out lifting your heel especially when you are short

I've become so conditioned to these clips ending with "Now do it" - that this one feels incomplete without it.

Thanks. Bought a 2nd hand Concept2 model C around 20 years ago. Still using it, still picking up tips! A good rowing machine is expensive but such good long term value. Single best exercise machine.

Thank you for acknowledging those of us trying to row with a little more, ahem, tactical girth. Most trainers assume you can do the movement as written, but when you have a little extra fluff, it's hard to know if you're getting the movement right.

I was wondering this because I do lift my heels when I row. So, sounds like I'm okay to do this as long as I get my 11 and 1'o clocks in 👍

There's an exercise Ben Patrick does, the 'seated good morning'. Basically, if someone is really flexible in the groin and glutes, they may not need to lift the heel. If they're not super flexible (98% of people) they will need to. IMO, everyone DOES need to do that lean forward (11:00 position) and it really doesn't matter if the heels lift or not. It probably is a bit better if everyone had that great flexibility, but it takes months or years to develop it.

Awesome. But what the heck what was that guy in the clip doing. Rowing in place?

I'm short and if I don't lift my heels, then I'm not using my legs for much of the stroke. This doesn't make sense to me. Maybe if you're taller then there is a lower proportion of the stroke impacted by not lifting heels
