Rover V8 Full Service

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Decided to strip down the V8 engine in my jeep and replace the cam shaft and the hydraulic tappets along with a new set of piston
rings, main bearings and big end bearings.
It's been a year and a half since I put the V8 in the jeep and when I
did I only did a minor service so decided it was time for a full
on job.

Lovely dog. Interesting to see his (?) behaviour speeded up. You probably know this but just in case, anti-freeze is highly poisonous and dogs seem to like it - got to be really careful with any spillages. Thanks for the vid, hats off to you.

Good video thanks for making the time to do them. I lost my dog at the beginning of the year and watching these reminded me how much I miss him, he used to do the same lie down in the garage and keep me company.

@@fixitnige is there a roller cam and lifters in newer version of this engine?? My experience most V-8's with roller cam and lifters last much longer here in the USA starting in mid 80's most our V-8's had to cause the Japan was making toyo that ran hundreds of thousands of miles , when American v-8's after 100000.0miles cam had no humps left and whacked so loud U knew the engine was trashed even with the best service!!

@@scottyjones27 Hello Scotty this is a 1999 version it did have fuel injection I have not looked at the newer engines but this one and all before I am sure are hydraulic lifters but you can get adjustable push rods but they are just to much money.Cheers Nigel

@@scottyjones27 This motor used to be the Buick 215 from the early 60s here in God Blessed USA. In the late 60s they gave up on aluminum engines and sold the rights to Rover group. To sumarize: First Rover copied the US military Jeep. Later, they bought the rights to a the Buick motor. Later still they Copied the Ford Bronco suspension for the RR and ultimately their own Range Rover into the Glorious Exalted Defender (*). Now it seems they're completely hooked on copying, but have lost their wonderful English taste for a better product, and copy crap (new Defender).

I'm not try to tell my granny how to suck eggs, but, why take the camshaft out before the crank shaft? If you take the crank out first, you have a lot of room to control the removal of the cam, without damage to the bearings. I've been building engines for 60 years, and always take out the crank first, and on reassembly, install the cam before the crank.
