    I had a Rover 90 when I was 19, didn’t appreciate it at the time because it only did 20 miles per gallon. I always cleaned the leather with saddle soap, used furniture polish on the dash and window surrounds and silvo on the outside shiny bits. It always looked splendid.

    To JACK MULLET. ( not quite JACK MILLER, my uncle who had one!). You obviously were commendably conscientious about looking your car. BUT you were lucky nothing happened about using SILVO. I had heard it could ruin metals that were only PLATED.

    You are loving that change, great choice! With regards to the cost of fuel and the Rover's economy, I would say they aren't your prime reasons for driving this vehicle. I drove an MGBGT for years, friends always asked what insurance group and the mpg. I drove it because I enjoyed it. I think that's where you are with this beauty. Keep on enjoying such a rare car. Also, thanks for sharing.

    Great vid again Alex, a good set of tyres can make a world of difference in the handling of a car. Those tyres suit the car too.

    Great video. I could look at that dashboard all day. Brings back so many memories from my childhood. My mother used to drive us to school in a 52 P4 75 (sloping back). She had to sell it eventually due to it being...too heavy to steer!

    Oh I forgot to mention. That gearbox whine, especially in reverse. Just wonderful, exactly the same noise as the one we had. (The Duchess we called her).

    I had to smile when you put the handbrake on at 17:44, my dad taught me to drive in his 3 litre coupe and mums rover 100 he used to shout at me if I didn’t hold the button in on the handbrake instead of dragging it over the ratchet teeth 😅 mums 100 had wooden blocks on the pedals as she couldn’t reach them.

    After many years of motoring the petrol prices make my blood boil Alex, back in the 80's I was filling up for a tenner, but we can't let that get in the way of us enjoying our cars because that is what counts. Like Peggy, Jessie sounds great up and down the gears and what a difference those beautiful block tyres have made. Glad your pleased with them.👍😊

    Had the use of a Rover 100 for several years back in the late sixties. Two tone green. Lovely car. Drove with it with friends to Yugoslavia, 90 to 95 mph all the way along the German autobahns. Four gallons of Jet petrol for less than £1. Those were the days!

    What a nice vlog Alex, and thank you for taking us along for the drive. Maybe the reason you were so happy had something to do with how Jessie was steering? I'm sure I heard that mentioned, hahaha! Great stuff, keep it up!

    I was told new tyres have a coating from the mould, that’s what needs scrubbing off. Great the new tyres have transformed Jessie’s steering, hopefully a little better economy as well

    Yes the right tyre makes a big difference, my old commer van alfull with crossplys fitting radials like fitting power steering. !

  • @hugso47
    @hugso472 жыл бұрын

    Further thought: The gear lever was adjustable and could be moved a little from side to side to suit the driver. Also, of course, the tyres were cross ply back in the day and I guess the suspension etc was designed around that sort of tyre. Really loved that car. Great to hear the old noises again, the slight whine from the transmission etc. I remember the rear doors made a slight creak as you fully opened them. Many years ago (40+?) Rene Cutforth made a TV travel documentary, driving a Rover P4 from the Baltic to the Black sea. That too brought back many happy memories of a lovely car and driving across Europe.

    Back in my day the phrase was bedding in which is more descriptive. Basically get the new tyres on, let them bed in for 600 miles and then come back and get them balanced etc. I've always preferred to get that all done when the new tyres are put on and check them again at the next service. Technology has changed, the compound mix of tyres has changed, and peoples' opinions have either changed or adjusted. I'd have to say I'm pleasantly surprised that these tyres are lighter as they look like radial treads when cross ply were the accepted norm for these cars. So if you have come from traditional radials you will notice a difference although from what I can see you have radial treads which is an enormous gain if you're enjoying the lighter steer benefit. Did Blockleys indicate the expected mileage you should get. My advice is to rotate them every service to make sure the wear is even all round.
