    One of the most endearing things about your channel Alex is the way you interact with the camera which makes me certainly feel that your audience is actually there with you. We can share with you your emotions the good and the bad and they are down to earth and "real" . You always get through these issues.

    I bought an Aunty 110, 342WKJ, in '75 for £15, when I was 19, the clutch and MOT were out, we couldn't get it started, so we towed and there was a massive bang, it blew the silencer apart ! 😅 Tuned out to be a crack in the distributor cap, it failed the MOT on one brake pipe, I sold it to a mate who jacked it up in the road and put a clutch in it, no mean feat on one of those ! Thanks I enjoyed the ride and the memories.My first car was an A35 in Grey.

    Hi Alex. Lovely T- shirt! And you wear it so well! 😀 I had a Rover 75. In about 1971? I paid £35 for it! The previous owner didn't know we're the spare was? I found it in a drop down tray under the rear number plate? I think the bonnet. Doors and Boot were Aluminium? It had a beautiful interior. All wood dash and leather seats! I was a Policeman at the time! I sold it for £50. To another Copper! His wife wrapped it around a flyover? God knows how she managed to do that? The chassis was built like The Eiffel Tower! Great memories! Love your videos! Thank you Alex. Regards. Andy Lester. 😊

    Hello, from the USA! Just found your channel. love the P4.I just purchased a 1947 P2 14 sports out of Vancouver, British Columbia. And imported it to Washington State So i've been watching lots of rover content. they never imported rovers to north america as far as I know , so you don't see them over here very often. Anyway enjoying your content. everything so different over there.

    I've just today purchased a 1958 P4 that's gonna need some TLC as it's been sitting on blocks here in New Zealand for 32 years. Looks okay, was well loved and sold by the son of the chap that owned for years and parked it there himself. I drove a 90 a fair bit in my teens 40 years ago and have wanted one ever since. I'll be following your channel methinks.

    Shame about the pressure switch leaking 😕 Years ago i had an old vw polo, and my mother borrowed it one day. When she came back she said theres something wrong with the car and the horn is blowing all the time - what's going on. So had a look at car and oil was gushing out of the plastic top on the pressure switch and the horn was blowing as a low oil pressure warning - i never knew they had such a thing on a car : )

    This reminds of my folks P4 75 "cyclops" - believe it was 1950 version and this would 1960-62 when the oil pressure warning would flicker on and off - plenty of oil on the dipstick (the folks never used the oil button on dashboard to see oil level on petrol gauge) - mechanic traced the problem to low sump oil level - the collar ring thing on the dipstick (the ring thing that stops the dipstick going down into the sump to far) had come loose - you could see where the old weld marks were which about 2 inches down the stick. - hadnt thought of that for years so thanks for reminder

    Nice to see you smiling again and looking well. A few years ago I would have metaphorically cut off my right arm for one of A35s to restore: I don't know why, but I've always had a very soft spot for them. Best wishes.

    Thankyou. I guess I was thinking about how you all drive on the other side of the road and your roads seem so narrow. Over here everything is always full 2 lanes unless it's a private driveway. If you happen to know of any salvage yards over there that have any P2 stuff Ive got a list of small stuff I need to source. I haven't had much luck finding yet. Still taking it to the local car show Friday evening though😊

    @Daves_classics my car is negative earth. 😄 . You would need to insulate the radio unit from any metal part of the car for a start. The positive wire from radio would go to the body of the car and the negative would go to the wiring for the clock or make something up to go on back of ignition switch.

    Hi Alex, glad you got the oil pressure switch sorted on Jessie , just incase you don’t remember we have a Morris Minor , I just wanted to ask about the cold start on Jessie and how quickly she actually started , do you use full choke on every cold start you do regardless weather it’s freezing in winter or 25 degrees in summer ? , last week there was 2 afternoons when my girlfriend finished work and the car had stood 9 or 10 hours so after pulling the choke out fully it struggled to start and she ended up flooding it , she said it almost felt like the car was cold and she wasn’t using enough choke , ie - starting but struggling to stay running then stalling but she said after 3 or 4 try’s she was flooding then wouldn’t start at all , could you suggest anything to try ? , thx Graeme and Wendy x

    Hello! I normally pull choke out all the way when starting up first time of the day no matter what weather. I then find when it's hot as soon as she starts i ease the choke in enough until she sounds smooth. My capri used to like me to pull choke out all the way, but push back in a few cm before starting (weird I know) . All my other cars are choke out all the way for initial start up. Make sure none of you are using the accelerator to start the car. Just use the choke. Try choke out all the way. Start (hopefully) and quickly ease choke in before it starts to choke itself too much with fuel. If you're still having issues I suggest a carb tune as it may be over fueling to begin with.

    @@Alexsassets hi Alex, thx so much for getting back to me , the moggy belongs to my girlfriend, she’s approaching mid 50’s , ( she’ll kill me for telling you ) 😂 , I’m only late 20’s but I don’t drive her very often, only if Wendy leaves her for me to use and gets a lift to work, neither of us uses the accelerator to cold start her , it’s usually just choke out fully and turn the key , it usually takes between 3 and 5 seconds of the key being turned before she starts , for instance this morning it was full choke in the garage and she started 1st try then Wendy pushes the choke into about half way then gets her out the garage , after 9 or 10 hours standing even though it’s baked in the sun all day It’s still classed as being a cold start !!! Am I correct ? , if it was a cooler day or the sun hasn’t been out she starts fine , do you think it’s worth her trying her without choke to begin with or maybe half choke ? , I know in winter even if she’s only stood 2 hours outside she’s reluctant to start without choke , she does try and sometimes actually start but won’t stay running where as I picked her up from Wendy’s place of work , she’d stood just over 4 hours and she started 2nd try , she did cough and splutter a bit but I managed to keep her going, Wendy just thought with standing in the sun all day might have been the issue !! , what do you think Alex ?

  • @Alexsassets

    @FETISHEST alot to take in. It's just a game of see what the car likes I guess. If I've been at a show all day (over 5hrs) i tend to pop choke out just under half (mostly to give it a bit of fast idle speed) . I'm trying to understand the message and i might be getting this bit wrong.... but you say choke out to get out garage.... when Wendy gets it out the garage does she then turn it off straight away? Or is it out the garage and off we go?

  • @FETISHEST

    @FETISHEST

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Alexsassets I’m guessing you misunderstood when I was meaning , full choke in the garage which at about 07.30-08.00 it’s a lot cooler at that time and as soon as she starts Wendy puts the choke straight into half way then backs out the garage, leaves it running on half till she closes the garage door then backs out onto the road and off she goes , usually waits she’s got into 3rd gear then pushes the choke fully in , there’s a junction about half mile up the road , during the summer she’s fine but in winter she sometimes stalls at this junction but does start up without the choke but can kangaroo as she sets off , Wendy has literally walked through the door as I’m messaging you back , cos it’s a lot cooler up here today plus it’s raining Wendy said she used full choke after work and she started 1st try then into half way and she was fine , after work cos she’s in rush hour traffic she has to keep her on choke for a while or she’ll stall if pushed in to soon , it seems like the 2 days last week when it was really hot she didn’t like full choke on a cold start , just out of curiosity if she floods do you just leave her or is there any other way of getting her started ?

  • @Alexsassets

    @Alexsassets

    Жыл бұрын

    @FETISHEST sometimes if you leave it it will sort itself out. Other way is choke fully in and keep cranking and there's a weird knack to it but you put foot down on full throttle as it tries to catch and you can sometimes tickle the peddle up and down as it tries to start. Sometimes this causes it to flood even more if not used to it haha. Other method is remove all spark plugs, dry and clean. Other method is if it has an electrical pump, disconnect it or take fuse out and crank engine without fuel pump for a bit and it won't put any more fuel in to flood further and sometimes you can get it to start and run briefly then it will obviously die as pump off. So put pump back on and it should run then.
