Router Table Overview

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Overview of my router table with Incra LS Super System positioning system, Porter Cable 7518 Router, JessEm MastRLift, Incra 27" X 43" offset router table top, and Woodstock Safety Switch & Cord.
A lot of folks have asked, so here is an overview of my router table cabinet with dimensions and some basic "how to." I did not draw plans or do a video while I was building this, but if you are building a router table cabinet, this might give you some ideas. I have also highlighted a couple of things I would do differently!
Dimensions are labeled on photographs at the end of the video. You can pause the video there and write down the dimensions or take a "screen shot" of the still frame and print it out.
If you have any specific questions not covered in the video, send me an email at the address listed at the end of the video. Thanks for watching!!!

Nice tour of your router table. I liked that you stated what you keep in each drawer -- it is helpful for we new woodworkers to organize our shops with a little guidance like this.

I had pieced most of that together from your other videos as I started planning mine. I solved the dust collection issue by installing an Incra Cleansweep and it works great! I also am working on adding a 90 degree bend out the back and a "Y" to include the smaller 2 1/2" port from the fence. I'll email you pics when I'm finished. Great video as always!

Thanks for the tour Steve. Was good to hear what you liked/disliked as that will definitely help too. It's never easy to make that determination when you're looking at a SketchUp model :)

Really nice design, I already have the same lift, variable speed router and the Incra system, methinks I might be using some of your ideas when I build my router table.

That was a great review of the router table and the good and bad of the design. Thanks for sharing that. As a newbie I decided (haven't started building it yet) to use a Bench Dog table since all my other machines have this. With that as my base I also wanted to be able to use an Incra LS positioner as well. But that won't work just with the Bench Dog itself. So I intend to design an extension table to make the entire top user friendly for the LS positioner. I accidentally found that a company makes the Precision Plate v 2.0 accessory which allows MFT Festool users to attach an LS positioner. I will use this for my extension table as an adapter to enable me to use the Positioner also. I'm excited to be able to have the best of both worlds. Thanks again for the pros and cons of your build. I'll keep that in mind when i start building mine !!!

Thanks for the video. I have a similar set up and have taken all the lessons you learned after building yours and will be incorporating most of them in my new table. I will maintain the 1 1/2" ledge around the top for clamping, as you pointed out. I think I will move the center support closer to the router plate for wider drawers to the right and provide better support where it is needed most. I will also build mine a little taller. I hate bending over the table all day and it improves my visibility at the same time. I did not hang my Ultra Jig off the back edge, like you did, even though it is the 25" model. I figured I could move it outboard if I ever needed to route out that far to the center of a panel but I do like having that option with a 43" table. I have started making a video but I am still learning how to edit and narrate the final product. Good time to learn a new skill, I guess. Thanks again. You really have helped out.

this is my first comment on your channel, so please forgive me if I am a bit glib... a couple of brothers put together a thingy the took to a beach and tried to fly it. It worked then they apoligized and said we can improve it, and they did...today we have 747s...you have a great thing here and I can tell you that I did a crude version in 1974, that was the pre-curser to all that has come since. Good on you! great job and yes, we never stop trying to improve. You have a lot of great ideas here. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice router table. My only suggestion would be tapering the sides of the routor chamber as you mentioned as well as rerouting your cables higher up in the compartment so they don’t impede the flow of wood chips and sawdust to your extractor port. I built a similar but slightly smaller table using the Incra fence system as well and really enjoy using it.

Really nice router table, thanks for posting. Do you find the casters lend themselves to a bit of instability when running a workpiece through, as opposed to fixed adjustable glide type feet?

Nice router table Steve. I'm doing a build now and thinking of skipping the fence suction and going with down draft dust collection only. I have a similar setup and was told by the guy at Incra that down draft is all he recommends. Interested in your thoughts.

That's an interesting comment... I wouldn't be without the fence suction. It keeps the workspace very clean and really (I think) makes the router bit more efficient. I've got mine connected to my dust collection system, and the suction at the fence is so strong it actually helps keep work pieces against the fence... sometimes it almost makes it harder to move the workpiece. :) Seriously, I can only relay this one experience... One day I was working on some roundovers on some pieces and all of a sudden there were chips everywhere and a big mess on top of the table and behind the bit... I found that the hose had worked itself off the fence port. As soon as I reattached it, everything went back to normal. I think for downdraft only to be efficient you would have to have a pretty big hole around the bit... in the router plate... I prefer to have as small a hole as possible around the bit for more support for the work piece. Thanks for watching!!!
