It takes six to eight weeks for the tendon to heal to the bone, three months to form a relatively strong attachment to the bone, and about six to nine months before the tendon is completely healed to the bone. Complete recovery time varies by size of the tear. Patients can often return to most activities after about 12 weeks after surgery, but participation in vigorous sports may be restricted for four to six months. The goal is to achieve full range of motion and full strength.
