OMG thank you. I’ve been in so much pain for so long, and I was sent away by the orthopedic surgeon with very little instruction. I’m going to do these exercises every day. The worst pain for me is trying to reach behind my back. Taking clothing off over my head is nearly impossible. God bless and thank you for being so positive!

I pulled my Rt rotator cuff about a month ago. I'm having a terrible time. My Orthopedic Surgeon said no tear but I got a Kenalog 40 shot. Those feel great for about 4 days then the pain is back and it hurts. I don't like taking pain pills. I did your exercises on this video, all of them. I felt geat the next day. But then it came back. So here I am, trying this again. Wish me luck. Thanks. Also I bought one of those gel packs to heat it up. It feels good for a while but wow. Really craving some pain pills but staying away from them. I work regularly so can't be taken them. Thanks again. I also notice when I do pushups there isn't as much pain. :) Also, I'm on TRT because my body stopped making it many years ago. my mood has improved tremendously. Been on it 2 years now. Being older, it really helps me out, overall, tremendously. I don't recommend it for everybody but the improvements are worth it. Increased bone density, less body fat, more muscle mass. I don't overdue it. :)

According some other self-test videos, I don't have a rotator cuff injury, but...yeah, I think I do because I can't lay on that side and my shoulder pops and hurts if I try to do a 360 degree motion. Yes, it's not as bad as people who have full or partial tears and need surgery, but something is wrong. It's been hurting on and off for 2 years now. Shouldn't hurt at all to put a dish away in the cupboard.

Hi Dr. Jo. Love your videos. I had rotator cuff tear surgery in July I'm still having a tough time being able to raise up and out and behind my back I've been looking at a lot of your videos, I was going to pt now at 9wks and I feel the excerizes were not tough enough because really I don't feel much better at all. Going to do your excerizes with the resistive band and the where u were on the bed hanging with your arm up and out. I'm so ready to feel better and get back to work.

Hi Doc Jo! I injured my left shoulder about a month ago pulling up roofing shingles from a helper on a ladder who wasn't lifting them quite high enough. I'm 61 but fit and work hard all of the time. I'm a contractor. I'm still able to work over my head in some positions. Straight to the left, I can only lift my arm 90 degrees or parallel to the floor. A little more forward I can do better. Pain is low but regular. I'm about the same as a month ago. I've started some pulling exercises in front of my body (both hands pulling away from each other) with a red stretchie! I'm going to start some of yours as well. My shoulder actually has a little pop once in a while. Any ideas as to what's wrong. Maybe just strained or pulled ligaments/tendons.

Nailgunskater It could be anything from a shoulder impingement, slight rotator cuff tear, to a labral tear. It is hard to tell without getting to do an evaluation, but hopefully these will help! Good luck!

Hi, Doctor Jo: I've found your videos to be the most helpful on KZread! I am a 60-year-old female who was recently diagnosed with rotator cuff tear by lifting weights. The following is the U/S findings: There is full-thickness tear measuring 1.5 cm of the anterior and mid fibers of the supraspinatus with approximately 1 cm retraction. There is moderate tendinopathy of supraspinatus. There is a 1 cm area of calcification at the infraspinatus in keeping with calcific tendinopathy. There is moderate subdeltoid subacromial bursitis. I understand you have Rotator Cuff surgery yourself and would like to know what you think about the Arthroscopical surgery on Rotator Cuff. Please give me your suggestions! Thanks so much, lee

+Anderson Lee Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I know how painful it can be. I had a labral repair in my shoulder. My rotator cuff was partially torn, but they just cleaned it up instead of repairing it. It really depends on how your body reacts to the surgery. Some people do really well, and some people struggle with it for awhile. If you haven't tried any formal physical therapy yet, I would definitely give it a shot. Sometimes people can heal enough to not need surgery, but even if you need it in the end, you want your shoulder to be as strong as it can and have as much motion as it can for a better recovery afterwards. Good luck!

@@thestrongestmortal5124 So, turns out i actually had Nerve damage, and last month went for Radial to Auxiliary nerve transfer surgery, yep it took a year to get something done about it. I've read and seen it can take 2 more years for recovery now, waiting on a call from the Physio.

thanks a lot for the video. I have a 15 year old daughter who plays a lot of volleyball as a hitter and has recently had some shoulder pain. Will these exercises help strengthen her shoulder? I am not sure if it is rotator cuff pain or some other shoulder pain.

You're welcome. It should help with general pain, but if she continues to have pain long term, she should really go see a doctor or physical therapist in person to narrow down what's going on. Good luck.

My rotary cuff or whatever it's called is most likely torn because it comes out it's socket and it .... SSSSSUCKS. One time I threw myself on the ground because it WOULD NOT GO BACK and luckily the impacts brought it back. Anyway, I'll do these exercises and keep y'all updated.

+AskDoctorJo No... I think it is just from lack of use.... I played pickle ball today (pretty intense) with no issues Including overhead smashes.... I hope that doing the excersizes you demonstrated will help with the range of motion at least in that one axis (laying on my stomach and raising arm to side) I just tried again after pickle ball and I am almost at parallel about 90% before I am uncomfortable I think that with the combination of stretching, a little strengthening and using it more will do the trick.... I ordered the stretch band kit from your products page. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

In light of your suggestion to use light weights, is it too much to use the equipment at the gym? My surgeon told me two months post-op not to use the elliptical machine, but that was 9 months ago. I still feel pain on occasion. I was surprised when he told me post-op that my recovery from two total tears (supra and infra spinatus) would be one year.

It should be fine now, but I really don't know without getting to evaluate you. As long as you start off with a little, and see how it feels, then slowly progress, you should be fine. Good luck.
