O good heavens she is fantastic. She was definitely the best mezzo of the previous century. She is absolutely amazing in this aria. The one and only great Angnes Baltsa. Bravaaaaa.

THAT VOICE!! Wow!! Her ability to go from light bel canto to the big juicy Mezzo roles like Herodiade (Massenet)) and Amneris* is incredible. She has said that she knew from the start that she was a dramatic mezzo, but she not only enjoyed singing different repertoire and knew she could do it all, she also wanted to protect her voice from wearing out early. She certainly knew what she was doing! Thank you for posting! *If anyone hasn't seen this concert performance singing the Radames and Amneris duet with Placido Domingo, it's a must see! Although this performance is a number of years later, she was just as capable of singing this dramatic mezzo repertoire earlier as well, proven by her many studio recordings. She’s not a true mezzo and even less a dramatic mezzo. She’s much more of a soprano with limited top but very well developed chestvoice which she learned how to bring higher up into her middle. This is often how female singers trained their voices in the past and regardless of fach.
