On June 8, 1993, MacKenzie died in his sleep in his home in Orlando, Florida. After his death, the Washington Area Music Association held a memorial concert at The Bayou on K Street in Georgetown. Root Boy fans traveled from as far away as California to pay homage to "The Lenny Bruce of the Blues."
Slim's final resting place is in a grave beside his father's in Calvary Church Cemetery on Hendersonville Road in Fletcher, North Carolina, just south of Asheville. His grave is in the cemetery's northwest corner.

I was at this concert, which was great, despite the sad occasion. I remember meeting Root's sister and mom there!
If you can uncover another Itals concert live I would be greatful . The one from the Roxy with the Itals and Radics is pure . I think the Itals live with the Indika band is a great fit in the early 80s when they were in the prime . Bassie and the rest had so much energy . A new Itals and Radics would be fine to . I know they must be rare as I heard they taped over many tapes of concerts ? Thanks for all your vids
