    That's terrific. I am guessing that giving her the gift of using the safety harness was the best way possible to celebrate Father's Day. Speaking of which, I was thinking of your Dad the other day and this, his first Fathers Day without your Mom. Just wanted to send some caring as we were able to celebrate with my husband and son in law, my daughter, my son and our grandkids. I hope your daughter's hugs provide a bit of comfort to your dad. Another great video - we look forward to seeing your family enjoying it together.

    Glad to see you working safe now, especially when working alone. A dangerous part of life is when you are young, strong and agile, you feel invincible. I was so happy to see that you purchased a harness to protect yourself. I was concerned many times. I appreciate you as a husband and father as I understand how hard it is to look after your family day in and out, so having this cabin for a break from your normal routine is very good for your mind and soul. My husband looks after me and although I know it is hard on him he doesn’t complain and still smiles and jokes with me. We are retired now which I think makes caring for our partner a little easier to bear, than when you are young, but love is a wonderful thing to give us the endurance to last the years. I pray your wife has many good days ahead and that her health continues to improve with time. God bless you and your family. Please stay safe and strong.

    As a retired Certified Safety Professional I appreciate your presentation to the world on fall protection safety. I personally had several employees saved by proper fall protection. As a suggestion twin retractable lanyards (6ft) are available and you may find those to be much less in your way while working plus they can always be kept tight against your anchorage point which will give you a greater security. Beautiful build I love your show! Marc, Ohio USA

    Longtime watcher: my only comment is to use more nails, fewer screws. You'd be surprised how easily those cheap gold zinc screws break off. They're quite brittle. For longevity in your use, hard to beat hot-dipped galvanized 12-16d nails. Fastenings in general is something I've felt you're a bit lacking on, specifically your rafter to roof beam connections, and now sheathing to rafters. Screws in general are actually very brittle (structural screws excepted). I've learned not to rely on cheap/deck screws in shear applications where they can fail quite abruptly. Nails are stronger, better in shear and tend to fail elastically. The additional galvanization and diameter will help with longevity as well, and dealing with moisture/rust. Keep up the good work.

  • @ralfish2008

    @ralfish2008

    4 жыл бұрын

    Have to sort of agree, in terms of more connections: the rafters need to have at least two nails or sctructural screws at each point and each sheathing board should have 3 nails in each spot. Use nails on the sheathing as they are much cheaper than the screws, but either use structural screws or spikes for the rafters. Structural screws are great and now rated but expensive compared to nails..while galvanized nails are superior to bright finish nails for holding power and corrosion they arent necessary unless exposed to the weather. I'm so happy you got the harness. My son used to be an ironworker, working high steel. One day he had a fall, he got lucky and was able to grab a cable on the way down, luckily wearing leather gloves. He ended up swinging like a pendulum halfway between floors. He yanked his back and was bruised up his thighs where he was hitting against the floor level. He was pulled up and only off work for a few weeks. It could have been so much worse. Luckily I didn't hear about it until after. Take care and stay safe.

It stands upright,and we do that so that the house or cabine would be blessed and have a peaceful and long life for itself and al the occupant whit in it . And leave it for a week ore tree. I view many online private construction projects where safety is often overlooked. Falls from heights are common in the construction sector, particularly in residential housing. As a member of the Prevention Council of the Ministry of Labour Immigration and Skills Development I applaud your decision to use a safety harness. There are many other tasks involved in carrying out such projects, whether it be using chain saws or sawmills that also present safety risks. You set a good example for others who view your channel.

    I won't lie, the GoPro on your head shows things in such a perspective that I was on the edge of my seat. Thought you were gonna fall for sure. I watch another YT channel by a young man in Russia. He uses a short army shovel to peel the bark off of trees. The bark just slides off like butter...maybe you could try? The harness was such a good idea...Smart Wife you have there (hope her health is stable). I realized I was holding my breath when you are up that high. So excited to see the roof closed to being finished. I have watched you since the beginning and it has been one of my favorite pastimes. I like to snack or have tea ready before I hit play. Why not anchor a zip line between the trees going across the build? Having your harness secured behind and above you would make it less intrusive, and allow you to easily transition back and fourth across your structure. Could also be a moveable anchor point for your "comealong" pulley. Worth a thought.

    Good timing on the harness, I’d say crawling around on the 45 deg roof is probably when you need it the most.

    Thanks for wearing your PPE. The safety glasses are the most important. No one can see out of a glass eye. Your wife, daughter, father, and grandparents all depend on you now. Don't let them down by not working safely. Love and prayers to all of your clan.

    I AM VERY HAPPY YOU FINALLY HAVE A HARNESS!!!!!!!! Yes they are a pain to deal with, but you get used to it in a very short time, and considering how short of a time it takes for an accident to happen, having a proper fall arrest harness like the one you have, it takes a bit longer than a fall does, to change the outcome for the better. Thank You for getting the harness!!!!!!!!!! WOW, it's amazing how 1/2 of the Sheathing makes the cabin look more like a home and less like your playing Jenga in the woods. It's truly great to see the roof finally coming to its finishing, it's been a long time coming. I started watching the channel when you were adding the course under the window frames, and unless I'm wrong I think you said then that it was over a year at that point since you started the build? So I think it's now been over 3 years since you started the build of the cabin??? The roof has been a long time coming!!!!! Great to see it finally coming to fruition. Hopefully you'll be able to move in just before the first snow or shortly thereafter. Peace, Happiness, Love and Laughter, Keep Safe All, -Matt

    I applaud you! For thinking of your family! You are a wise young man. What would your wife and daughter do without you!?? I shudder to think. As you said, " it only takes one mistake" there are no do overs when it comes to falls! Keep up the great job!

    Safety harness is good. I fell off my roof 15 feet onto concrete. I have been out of work since. You never plan to get hurt, but that is why they are called accidents. Stay safe.

    I really enjoy your videos. I have learned a lot from you. I worked in the timber industry for a number of years. I ran a 52inch head saw . I've cut a lot of post ang beam from a variety of different trees. I have cut out a house once . It took a lot of trees, mostly oak. But some red cedar. 1500 square foot of living space. Half of the house was clear span living space . Keep the videos coming .

    I certainly can understand how difficult a 45* (12 on 12) pitch roof is to be on. My shed looked to have too flat of a roof with a 4 on 12 pitch when I drew it up so I went with a 6 on 12 (22.5*) and while being narrow added to the difficulty of not giving you room to stand/work (about 5’ 4” each side with eaves) it was still too steep to sit while working and not slide off. Much respect to you working on a steep roof like that.

    Just got this latest post. I have an idea. I am glad to see you got a harness. You need to read this, I think it will help. Go to the end of your roof and at the center posts on both ends install you a pole on each end then attach a cable between the two ends, you can use that cable to attach your harness as soon as you get on the roof and it will run from one end to another. Hope this helps. My Momma and me are all the way in SE KY and watch you vids regularly, we are amazed at how well you do in your build and how much you are in love with your wife and family. We both hope all is well with her, and our prayers are with you both. Until next time, be safe and God Bless you all.
