Roof Top Deck Part 1: The Structure | Skoolie Conversion Ep. 19 | Adam & Steph

Ойын-сауық

This week we made major progress in our build, thanks to our indoor space! We worked on the structure for our rooftop deck using angle iron and a little finesse! This project was super simple, we hope you enjoy the video!

    Hey-Ohhh!!! Great job @Adam and Steph! Like the way you curved the angle and flipped it around! Definitely does look very sleek! Getting the supports up makes a huge difference and such a strong attachment point for all the rooftop components, right!? Having our Skoolie out in the elements for over a year now, we are proud to say that we have ZERO leaks from any of our rooftop protrusions. Ain't nobody has ever said "I wish I used less caulking..." So keep it flowing and it'll stay nice and sealed up! Keep up the hard work & thanks for the shout out! - Brian + Erin too

    Hey!! Thanks so much! We loved the way you guys did your setup and I’m happy we did our own spin on it! Glad to hear you’ve had zero leaks! Definitely makes us feel good about ours! We’ve had our bus out in the elements for a few months now since doing this and it’s held up great! Thanks for watching our vids! 😊

    Probably the most structurally sound design I've seen yet! I may use this design for my bus. Thx!

    Somebody should tell Cole the best way to get something into a vid is to say don't put that in the vid. Works every time!! Great work on the deck guys! With the right tools and a little help from friends, most jobs are easier then they look. On to part 2.

    Roof deck, nailed it. Excellent guys, well done. Adam, since you have taken a lot of strength out of the angle iron shaping it, i would brace your struts to the central conduit to stop the rack moving from side to side as it may crack it over time, especially with the cold weather.

    Good job on your guess, you knew it!! We knew someone would probably comment about this lol! When we put the deck boards on they will add a lot of rigidity to the structure as we will bolt each board to the two unistruts and the two pieces of angle iron on either side. So the structure shouldn’t be able to shift side to side!

    Great ideas for a rack. I will want to put one on the bus I'm trying to get. I found one that's started and livable. Needs work but it's cheap and can be fixed. I'll need solar panels and extra storage in top.

    We found this method offers as much surface area as possible, it’s incredibly strong, and easy to do! We really recommend you try it out!

    Hey! Thanks for your comment! In this video we just installed the angle iron to prefab everything! In part two we will take everything apart to paint it (because it’s still only mild steel) and we will use locktite and butyl tape to seal all the mount points when we reinstall!

    Just wondering what the steps were to draw up a contract with the owners of the property's that I would air bnb. Whats keeping the owners from just doing it on their own after getting in contact with them?

    Our “uprights” are 20” tall and the longest length of our deck ended up being 153”. The side with the skylight had a 48” length in front and a 26” length in the back. But those measurements would be useless to you unless you have a skylight exactly like ours lol. Hope this helps you!

    This is NOT a ding of any sorts. But I would have betted Money you would have used Flexible Solar Panels, (Because your Bus is so Beautiful.) I did some research, and its noted that there's a Efficiency difference, but not enough for Us not to consider them. Nice Fabrication.

  • @AdamandAtlas

    @AdamandAtlas

    Yes we didn’t opt for flexible panels because of the efficiency difference and the lifespan of the panels! Thank you!
