Thanks for sharing, but I disagree with the captions in this video. I think there are a number of vulgar gestures someone could do with a cue and you have to draw the line somewhere to keep the keep the game environment as professional as it generally has been. I think it's quite appropriate to not allow players to rub the cue between their legs. Additionally, Dennis Taylor got criticized for what? He didn't see the incident, but he was accurately telling the viewers what was happening now.

That is really all he did. I do not think it was any deliberate "obscene gesture". Maybe she should spend her time looking at and officiating the shots, not looking at the guy after the shot as he returns to his chair. As a referee, I would be wanting the rules changed so that their stupid habit of smacking the rail apron when they are angry about a shot would be cause for a forfeit.

@@cosmicraysshotsintothelight I dunno to me it looked like it was right in there and he was pulling it up and down, almost like he was calling himself a tosser for missing the shot. Considering the second gesture was clear, and a more extreme gesture of the same type, both after missing a shot, I think it's clear that it's a gesture he's done multiple times and knows is rude.

Watched the Ronnie/Michaela incident a few times over the years, and still don’t know what he actually did. Guess you had to be there to have seen it. In any event, even if it was caught on camera, it would’ve been censored out. My dirty mind tells me Ronnie was attempting to seduce his cue. Such a naughty man!!

They literally pointed it out with text on the screen and everything. He put his cue between his legs and moved it back and forth. Either scratching his nuts with the stick or trying to wipe off the sweat from his stick. Either way the ref thought it was “obscene”

@MK3 Andrew It would have been helpful if you put a timestamp. at 0:37 It said "Ronnie rubs the cue on his pants, which is really vague and if it was just that it wouldn't be a big deal. The text did not say anything about him rubbing it between his crotch which is a completely different 'ball' park from just rubbing it on his pants. He's also walking back to his seat as he does it, and it can look like he's just pulling his cue back if you aren't staring at the guys crotch. And the commentary made it sound like he did something offensive to the other player.

Instead of politely pointing out what happened and when it happened at, you decided to treat both me and the other guy like idiots just because we didn't notice what happened. Considering you are just now commenting on this video, it's reasonable to assume you have a good idea of when it happened at and it doesn't take much effort to type in a timestamp, especially considering how rude you were to us, over something like not staring at a guys crotch, whereas you did stare. By the way, where i'm from a "rude" gesture implies a victim, an obscene gesture would imply what actually happened in the video, so i was waiting to see him being rude to the other player not do something 'obscene'. You need to be more respectful and understanding to others, not be a jack ass.

Ronnie should have just said he had an itch and thought it was a discreet way to scratch it rather than using his hand.

itnaklipse Michaela Tab circumvented the process to become a referee, many aspiring and qualified refereed were very unhappy about it at the time. I have no objections to female refs but she didn't fulfil the criteria at the tine and hadn't even served the mandatory apprenticeship. I suspect that she was given the clemency to promote women ad refs at the time when there were hardly any of them. You'll also note that she was removed as s snooker referee and then lodged a failed claim that she was discriminated against. She is no longer on the main circuit but does pool and the seniors snooker. She is, hiwever, quite a good snooker and pool player.

They need to say something after the incident, not before his shot

When he missed both shots he bumps the end of his cue out of annoyance by thrusting his hips forward into it that has a sexual gesture to it, which I personally think is just a habit he has developed and there's no rude intent meant but it probably doesn't look good visually to anyone else. If he had bumped his cue out of irritation when using say his knee or thigh then I don't think it would have mattered too much and players in other sports do similar things in anger when they miss, like tennis players hitting the ground with their racket for example or a footballer kicking a goalpost.
