Ronnie O'Sullivan Comes Back from the Brink of a Whitewash (long version) | 2012 German Masters

Спорт

This amazing comeback marked a turning point in O'Sullivan's career. Sports psychologist Steve Peters started working on him at the beginning of that season with good results.
Ronnie O'Sullivan vs Andrew Higginson, 2012 German Masters - Last 32
This video is an extended version of the original "Ronnie O'Sullivan Comes Back from the Brink of a Whitewash" posted in February 2019 (the first video published by this channel).
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

This is one of the most significant moments in Ronnie's career, and snooker itself. Ronnie was having a bad period in his career, not winning much in the past couple of seasons. But this comeback, and then going on to win the tournament, brought the Rocket back to life. He's been winning tournaments almost every year (except for 2015) ever since this.

ThinkDifferent completely agree, he hadn’t won a ranking title in 3 years before this tournament. He could’ve easily thrown the towel in and got beat 5-0, but something switched in his head and he showed the will to fight back and win (perhaps a word with Steve Peters??). But after this win he gets two consecutive world titles, IMO I don’t think he would’ve had the success he has now without this moment

Andrew Higginson was cruelly unlucky in frame 5. First, he ended up snookered on the easy red in the corner that would have virtually guaranteed victory. Then, he pulled off an excellent pressure long red, and found himself touching the brown with no way to make a colour and keep his break going. That said, Ronnie's clearance was, well, typical Ronnie!

At 8:33 you can see that the calm demeanor of Higgins is broken as he breaks into a small laugh after losing an almost certain match-winning frame. I suppose he got intimidated by Ronnie and this is like a nervous chuckle to release some tension. It's truly the turning point of the match as Higgins up to then seemed to keep his composure and stay in control.

Simply the greatest 20 majors 37 ranking titles the most premier leagues the most centuries and 147s keeping hendry Higgins Williams Selby robbo ding trump now Wilson at bay entertaining us for decades keeping snooker afloat in the most competitive era ever keeping sponsors happy and viewing figures up all on his own terms never been a slave to the game or politically perfect..... Took 9 months off comes back wins the masters then wins the world's take a year comes back and defends his title for number 5.........waisted 9 years of his career partying due to the lack of discipline and appetite and still racks up these numbers and only last year he wins the inaugural coral series beating judd again and robbo to return to world number 1 at 43🤔he owns the shanghai masters and the champ of champs a tournament designed for him😁and now at 44 he's world champion again for the 6th time so this comeback is nothing to him his achievements are scary...... His aura and presence is unique nobody like him everything he does makes headlines from numpties to ranking points to the cue action......... His longevity is legendary its his lecacy 👌

Many thanks for this reminder! i honestly think Ronnie thought Higginson didn't deserve to win this... i don't think Ronnie particularly wanted to be there, but then he started playing better, coz Higginson wasted his chances. i'm not saying Ronnie would throw a match, but he might let chances slip away at times and not care. Coz it seems Ronnie can turn his CUE ACTION on at will. So it seems at least. When it's really needed, it's there. Motivation is the only factor Ronnie needs to heed. Just my opinion, and could be wrong. But i hope this season he's motivated to go on a winning streak. Am gonna bet him to win every tournament he participates haha!

Ronnie wasn't at the brink of whitewash he was giving Higgins maximum possible lead

As much as I love Ronnie, this match is a Higginson, who should have won, crumbling under pressure and Ronnie capitalising on that pressure. He had opportunities to win and Snooker is very unforgiving when you miss those opportunities. I don't blame him, it's the worst thing about playing someone of Ronnie's stature.

Today, at 2023, l really think , if Ronnie lost here, he would've ended his career in 2013. This is the main match in his career

Always remember that although your opponent may have missed a vital ball you still have to pot the balls to win, and that’s what ronnie did,not his fault his opponent fluffed his chance but it relit ronnies career
