Ron's O scale Lehigh River Valley
A quick look at Ron's massive O scale layout. 40 years in the making, Ron scratch built over 600 structures and hand laid all the rail. The video starts at the Central Railroad of New Jersey terminal in Jersey City (a.k.a. Communipaw Terminal) then proceeds westward along the CNJ with stops in Phillipsburg, Easton, Bethlehem, Allentown, Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk) and then into the Lehigh Gorge at the Hotel Wahnetah and finally Penn Haven Junction where the Lehigh Valley RR crossed the CNJ. From there we head back east along the Lehigh Valley Railroad with views of the 2 Mauch Chunk stations (old and new), South Bethlehem, South Easton, Phillipsburg and finish in West Portal.

Ron, thanks for your incredible dedication to our local history, and your artistic creations bringing them back to life. Thirty years ago you graciously opened up your home to my two little boys because they were fascinated by the caboose in your yard. Both of them have grown up to operate locomotives today, one for CSX and the other for Amtrak.
Fabulous recreation of a wonderful time gone by. Rich
Amazing craftsmanship... Ron deserves a national medal for being a great citizen and doing such fine work.

I grew up in Allentown in the 1960's. Many of your vista elements are familiar. My dad took me to the Lehigh River in Reading to fish when I was 8 years old in 1958. Life was certainly less hectic then.
Omg!!! I wished i lived close to u....i could listen to ur knowledge all day and night about this stuff.....history bored me to death.....this stuff never gets old.....thank you so much for that great video!!!!!!!
What a great local history lesson. THANK YOU!
Ron, all I can say is you have done a spectacular job on your model railroad. I love the fact that you have brought history together with your layout. You knowledge of the specific buildings and their history astounds me. You are to be commended for bringing history alive with your model railroad. Congratulations! This has to be one of the most superior model railroads I have visited on the internet. ...Joel Eikomstead, Fargo, North Dakota. I am a PRR and East Coast Railroad fan. That may be because I was raised outside of Philadelphia in my youth.
Wow beautiful layout !
What a great layout and presentation. I extend my gratitude for having you share this exceptional layout with us less fortunate one's that have no layout. I thank you exceedingly!
This is great historic modelling and a real inspiration! Lots of information about times gone by. And of course with so much history the De-Lorean-back-to the future-car is obligatory. Greetings from Ulm-Germany!
Fantastic video.
I think I am just as impressed with rons knowledge as I am the layout.
Layout is just amazing!!!! So is the history behind it.
Have to agree with SmokeStack........Absolutely wonderful!!!! You captured the scenes perfectly. A true enjoyment to see.

Great job. Well presented!
absolutely fantastic!!!!
Thanks for sharing your railroad knowledge. • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Ditto Jonathan’s comment. Would love to see this layout later this year!!!
Wow. So much detail.
Magnificent beautiful handiwork. Father’s family from Bethlehem and Jim Thorpe, shocking reproduction of towns and station well done. His family worked New Jersey Central at Jim Thorpe (Mauch Chunk). Is Joseph T. Leonardis Undertaking Establishment depicted at 38 Broadway there. When I toured it in 1999 it still used a black 1940’s Packard hearse.
wow,impressive! excellent job sir.

Wow, I live close by just east of P'burg. I'm planning my own layout of this area in HO scale. Would love to swing by and see your layout if possible. I was doing research by driving the old LV line and saw the house in Steel City. Now I know who lives there. Amazing. I would love to visit if tours are available.
Fantastic oral history coupled with the depictions and running trains. Thanks for letting us see it. In 1972 to 1974 when I was a student at Lafayette I lived on Wolf Avenue in Easton. A long hill ran down from the building I was in, down to a river with a number of tracks parallel to the river. Is that section shown on your model? I have a few pictures somewhere.
Great video Did Bill Fagin record a cabride on this layout
Nice job where do you live and do you show it to people
Thank you , very informative. I live by the old CNJ line at Aldene. It’s used now by NS/CSX and NJ Transit. Beautiful workmanship. What scale is this ?

O scale
Wow! How large was this layout.?
Is there any way we can visit Ron and his layout? I pass his place a few times a month on the way to Steel City range.
Ron opens the layout to the LV NRHS once a year. I was fortunate to be able to get 2 days private showing to put this together.

+PeterInPa Is it possible to see this model railroad at some time? When is it open for viewing? Fabulous video and model RR and fabulous effort on the part of Ron. Thanks for posting.
I live in the Lehigh valley and I live 3 minutes away from the Lehigh river and train station
What are the measurements of the layout
Is your layout open for tours? Where are you located?
That's O Scale, 2 rail... Not that 3 rail toy stuff,.. thank you... great job thanks for the video and the great history lesson LOL Having grown up in Stratford Connecticut I can remember some great railroads running from Bridgeport Connecticut to White River Junction Vermont real railroad Buffs will know exactly what I'm referring to LOL
See and learn about O Scale at the 2018 O Scale National Convention, Aug. 22-26, 2018; Rockville, MD. 2018OScalenational.com
Are there different kinds of O scale track styles? This track doesn't have the middle rail. This track looks more realistic. From what I can tell the engine trucks look more natural.
Open for tours?
Are you open for tours ?
i worked right down the road from him.
That is a very beautiful layout Can people come see it

To the best of my knowledge Ron opens the layout to the Lehigh Valley Chapter NRHS members once a year but it isn't open to the general public. If you're in the greater Lehigh Valley you might consider joining the chapter. The open house is in the summer I believe.

You forgot weissport. Poor Ole weissport. :(
what kills this work is the static human figure .
Awesome video and history... I browsed and subscribed. If you have a sec. checkout my new video, "CHERRY VALLEY, O SCALE, 2017" (pretty nice "two-rail" layout and features, Philadelphia's 30th Street Station) Thx, Moses...
EH. HEHH.
So basically nothing shown here survives today; pretty sad.
Sounds like arsonists did more to your area than Gen. William T. Sherman did to mine.
Fantastic!
