The Witch of Endor? Well where the fuck was SHE when the Rebels were trying to blow up the Death Star?
lest anyone think this is satire, i've had this happen to me. at my cousin's funeral, the minister giving the sermon told all of us, including his parents and grandparents, that he was going to hell after having committed suicide. it's not the first or last time i've ever wanted to punch a priest.

A friend of mine would go to this Baptist Church in HS. I went a couple times and every time the peacher said we were all going to hell basically for existing and being a teen. I left feeling like I should just kill myself because what's the point. Once I told them I wouldn't convert from my family Lutheran church they turned against me.
I find it ironic that Dr. Bob Gray's flock, despite him dying in prison facing charges for admitted child molestation, chose to focus on the positive aspects of his life rather than condemning a lost soul for his sinful ways as a warning to the living to repent. Because according to this movie the pastor and whole congregation should have used Dr. Gray's death as a platform to scare everyone into repentance less they go to hell like Dr. Gray.
@Rob_Thorsman

Why, it's almost as if they're hypocrites!
@PikachuLittle

But it’s different. If you’re like Dr Gray and accept Christ, specifically the exact interpretation that particular congregation accepts, then you get a free pass to heaven no matter what you did. Those children on the other hand are almost certainly going to hell unless they repent and sign up to Dr Gray’s church, because they rejected Jesus when they rejected getting diddled by a man of god
@RaphBlade7

Guess Dr. Bob Gray hypocritically taught his flock to "Do As I Say, Not As I Do." Not surprised that they'd ignore this movie's message, and decide to follow the teachings of forgiveness. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they were following the lesson of that one Chick Tract "Lisa" (one that has since been disowned by Chick Publications, as it features a father who molested his daughter and is confronted by a doctor who despite knowing of the abuse, gives the father a sermon that is more concerned about him reading pornography, his failings as a husband, and teaching him to repent, than the fact he molested his own daughter, which the doctor fails to report and while it leads to the father confessing to his wife, she decides to forgive him after he gives her the same sermon and just sends a terrible message as not one person gets the authorities involved).

@@RaphBlade7 If it's any conciliation, the new pastor has worked for years to cover up the wrong-doing of Dr. Gray, and of the rest of the administration that he was a part of in their acts to silence the abused and the news in telling people about what they were caught doing.

Yeah. No surprise that's the most replayed part. Hope the victims are doing well.
You missed a great opportunity. One demon says in the film “No one tells the truth down here.” You should’ve been like, “If that’s the case then I’m not in hell and that’s not Lot’s wife, or Judas or Jezabel.” Then they’ll be like “Oh, but they are.” Then you go “You said ‘no one tells the truth down here’.” Mess with their heads.
So this family lives happily ever after, even though they're convinced that their son and brother is suffering unspeakable torture. It feels like that's the really twisted part of this whole system, the idea that perfect happiness can be attained while other people are condemned to ultimate torment. Kind of feels like they're cutting empathy off at the knees.

And I LOVE how he couldn't be bothered to tell them that he was going to preach that until just before the funeral started and they couldn't decide to have the service somewhere else!
Wait, so if the parents change their wicked ways then they get to go to Heaven, but the oldest son still burns for all eternity? And the parents will be eternally happy knowing their son is in fact being tortured for all eternity??? WHAT?
God loves you soooooo much he is willing to torture you for all eternity just because you didn't believe he existed. Religion!
The work you do is important Snob.
Just isn't quite the same without that Estus Pirkle energy.
You know, it figures that Pirkle and Ormond came up with TWO movies with a pessimistic view of humankind that judges the majority of them to an eternity of burning alive in hell, before making just one movie that's at least mostly about Heaven and its joys (even The Believer's Heaven still took a moment or two to remind us about hell, going by Snob's review).

My theory is that this is a prequel to the other two. The first priest bears a striking resemblance to a young Estus.
So the preachy kid says that asking for ANY supernatural help is wrong and deviates from God's plan, then asks God to help his dad and let his mom get a good night's sleep, which is asking for supernatural help. Besides, God's plan will either have mom sleep well or not irregardless of asking for it, right?

@@fattiger6957 Yes, if they knew the Bible better, they would know how very little there is against homosexuality in it outside of Leviticus 18:22 and a couple of the New Testament Epistles. Indeed, when Moses had half of the Israelites pronouncing which activities a person would be cursed if they committed in Deuteronomy chapter 27, homosexuality is NOT one of the sexual practices denounced. In both the story of Sodom and the corrupt med of Gibeah in Judges chapter 19, the men were intent on rape, not consensual sex. Not one of the prophets in the books of the prophets mentions homosexuality when they proclaimed their denunciations. Adultery and fornication, yes, homosexuality, no. In fact, if those "Christians" knew their Bible, they'd know that the two things that really rouse God's wrath are worshiping other gods and social injustice.
Brilliant review.
