The concert was the first concert that Taka's parents attended, they were very much against him going into music. "Nobody's Home" is a song about when Taka ran from home but realized his love for his family.

The story supposedly is that his parents didn't want him to go into entertainment at all while he did. He was in high school when he ran away and it was both parents that disowned him at this time. He didn't really talk to them for several years until his Dad visited him at work to finally talk to him. What's interesting is that his dad actually did the same thing, he ran away at the same area as taka. As people mentioned his parents were at this concert and at the very end he's pointing to his parents and tells that he really loves them. If you watch the actual concert you can see Tomoya consoling him a bit as they walk off stage. He also said that after this performance it's not just his personal song but it's everyone's now. I also learned something interesting. At the beginning of ONE OK ROCK taka didn't have that much confidence and sang with his head down. He finally got his confidence when the their fans started to tell him how much their music means to them and helped them out. Which explains why he deeply cares about their fans.

Aww, I love that. I read his parents are both musicians, and his dad is a famous singer too, so I can imagine they didn't want their son to experience the hardships they did. When I was in my idol days, our manager was the father of one of the girls, and he hated her choice. He pushed to make her leave.

@@LeanAndLooReact his mom was also famous and so is his brother hiroki, he sings in my first story. As far as i know from there netfilx doc, taka did run off but he was also kicked out. He was heavily into drinking and smoking and his parents basically had an intervention where they found all his hidden stuff and confronted him about it. Originally he was a jpop idol through Johnny's entertainment, with a group called NEWS. He eventually got dropped from the company, from what ive heard its because there was a picture taken of him with an older girl and they had cigarettes and alchohol with them in the pic, taka was underage. Obviously as an idol thats a no no. His parents technically got him the idol job because they sent in his and Hiros headshots and resume. Taka was upset about it because he wanted to get popular with out his parents name. He didnt want people to think he got the job because of his parents and not his talent, its why he changed his last name to Morita because he didnt want their fame. Eventually he changed his last name back to Moriuchi. Thats also why they redused to do music for anime, they wanted to get popular because of there talent and their live shows.

I'm glad you guys are so gracious in your reaction. It is because of you that many oorer here want to talk about how much they love them! taka left the most major agency in Japan as a teenager. He thought it was impossible for him to ever be active in the Japanese entertainment industry again. Because of the horrible tacit understanding that prevailed due to the power of the office, none of the major media outlets would allow idols who had left the office to perform on TV. In fact, they never perform on Japanese television. They also wrote a song about this. "yokubo ni michita seinendan" eng translation "full of lust young persons' association." Please give me your reactions to these songs someday.

Im so happy you reacted to this song! I would recommend everyone who likes One Ok Rock to watch this performance because i think it shows the deep emotional connection the band has with their fans and their music. From what i remember, this was the first concert that Taka's dad came to, and i think Taka wrote the song for his dad because he knew he was going to come to it. Definitely get that remorseful, heart-felt vibe from it. I think after this concert is when they started reforging their connection

Another truly emotional and personal song that you have to react to is C.h.a.o.s.m.y.t.h. live at the field of Wonder concert 2020. Each letter is the first letter of their friends. This performance was dedicated to a good friend that died earlier that year. You should react to another version of it, live at Nagisaen 2016. It has a completely different feeling to it. It starts with Taka playing the acoustic guitar alone on a stage in the middle of the crowd. Since a lot of their songs have multiple versions that are great, it would be awesome to watch you ladies react to like an early version and a now recent one. That way you can see just how far they've come.

@@LeanAndLooReact with over a decades worth of live shows there are so many versions that are really different. Some of the best are from their 2016 special live at Nagisaen. One of their heavier songs is mighty long fall, and the version at Nagisean is possibly the most energetic performance I've seen. But they change it up completely at the Day to Night acoustic session in 2021.

thank you for reacting to this! man, over a decade since this song was released and it still gets me teary eyed sometimes lol hiro, singer of my first story and taka's youngest brother wrote a song called 'home' which is very much a callback to nobody's home both in terms of sound and themes. when he sang it in 2016 he said towards the end of the song "mom, dad, can you hear this song? i'm praying that someday all five* of us will be reunited again" (*i.e. him, his parents and his two brothers) it makes me so happy that things got better for them, in fact a few months ago one ok rock and my first story had a joined concert and performed nobody's home together, it was very touching

pthe band was asembled in 2005, made 2 ep independently, around 2006, so that’s the debut date, and they weren’t sign in a lable untill 2007. you can check out ‚keep it real’, there is even a live video from around that time! but the quality isn’t great, you know, so you can also hear the studio ver, I still rly like this song xD This was 2012 concert at Yokohama Arena and it fits 17k ppl, but it was a big step at the time. And yeah, you can definetly see how they evolve, Taka voice only goes from good to great! If you would ever react to their documentary on netflix, ‘Flip a Coin’c that would be so fun to watch, and you can get to know them better ☺️

yeah. as someone who was in symilar sytuation to Taka, including being disowned by parents, I don’t want it to sound like he was ‘iresonable teenager’ for rebeling. I honestly feel sort of bad for him bc he seems to be, at least publicly, in his songs etc, taking most of the blame of the situation - but I understand they burried the hatches and rebuild their relationship and it’s good now. Idk if I would call his parents toxic or if they were as bad as mine - but they rly weren't great. Ok, Taka was kicked out of the idol training, for his inappropriate behaviour, for drinking and partying when he was around 15, and that’s not great. But his parents seems very hard on him, expected him to excell at school and he was never good at, or liked school - and not everyone has to excel academically we know he has other talents - but then I’m sure you heard how much kids are pressured academically, in Japan, Korea, etc. Taka was going to school and those extra learning programs so he was literally in school for 12-14 hours a day, could you imagine that? And his results still weren’t as good as they wanted. And one day his parents found his cigarets and beer (which he was doing if from stress) in his room, and I would understand them being frustrated, but is that rly an disowning offence? I’m not a parent but I cannot imagine disowning my own child for anything like that, (for anything rly, unless they turn out to be a murd*rer or something.) So he run away from home at 16 or 17, but I’m not exactly surprised he did. His parents rly weren’t supportive, strict and hard on him for all this time and then they disowned him. Yeah any way, I feel bad when he takes the whole blame on himself, but I won’t argue how he dealt with the reconciliation and the whole situation. At least, I’m rly glad of what his father said in the documentary, after all this years, so I’m thinking his parents at some point understood they made a mistake and apologised too.

You have to understand the culture, though, to understand the actions. He sounds a lot like me growing up. Japan has certain expectations of its youth and a reputation for the family that play heavily into how harsh parents can be. It's the same in my family's cultural heritage: disowning children for bringing shame. Asian parents, in my opinion, are some of the hardest on their kids in terms of their future, so I am glad he resolved the issue. Trust me as a parent, when your kid hits the hard teen years and rebel (they all do) then you meet a completely different kid to what you raised. There is no shame in admitting most parents have a really hard time navigating their relationship with their teens. I have two and at times one of them is so stubborn and rebelious I have wished she would hurry and move out. So yes, sadly it happens. Because strong personalities collide and they no longer want to listen to you or compromise. xx
