I love the way nothing bothers you when stuff goes wrong. Fair play to you. Great episode.

Yes, I know what mean...i'd be cursing like mad !
Automotive high artistry. Mr Maver’s respect for engineering excellence glows through every aspect of this beautifully crafted programme.
Gary is like therapy, calm collected zero stress, methodical through. So soothing to watch, also a brilliant tech!
This guy tracks down an obsolete, extraordinarily rare RR tool, and then gives it to his mechanic friend. I love this!
Great to see you have a camera person now 👍🏼
Gary you're helping us Yanks get a real handle on repairing and restoring these masterpiece Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars.
Keep the red!
I think God help create your dented bumper as it gently pushed you to work on the brakes. Think it as a life saved. Excellent presentation as usual. Thank you!
When repainting, I would personally go for the Ivory colour, the most beautiful on the Corniche Convertible.
Those rear hubs 😮. Hats off to you Gary 💯
Hey Gary, Eughhhh......One step forward , 2 steps back..... Im sure this will look perfect again when you done the repair; interestingly, this was also the corner that was dented before you sent the bumper off for rechroming lsat time ...right ? With regard to the red colour, I recall going to the NEC motor show back in 1978 with my Dad (he got complimentary tickets from Firestone Tyres ) and all the cars on the stand were in Red that year and recall a Red Corniche Convertible being amongst them. Its a very wise choice sending the vehicle back to Willow Gold - far more elegant in my opinion whereas the Red is just too full on. This looks like an awesone project though Gary and look forward to seeing this progress in the coming episodes..... Cheesr Stew
Your heart must have sunk when you clunked that. That sander you've got is absolutely fab.
Great episode Gary and good advice 👍
Wish I had the skills you have Gary. You have a half finished RR jigsaw puzzle with missing parts....and you just want to start from scratch again. I'm impressed..
Please leave the colour on the red one, that RR looks stunning with it !😜
Amazing your patience! I love your 83 Corniche! I have a 1981. Mine is Carribean blue with blue interior. I really wanted your red with a tan interior, but I bought the car at a steal, only $14,000 USA! I had to do nothing to the car! It was a "once in a lifetime" opportunity! Much respect to you! Your videos are always "classic"!
Personaly I love the red Corniche, really stands out and still sofisticated!
Nice job done. I hope the damage on the other Rolls is not as a bad as it looks right now. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
This is a great channel Gary, it's going to build as more people become aware, haven't seen your acting but I love your enthusiasm and taste in cars.
🍀Thank You very Interresting🍀
So incredibly helpful in showing how to maintain these wonderful cars, thank you Gary
Another entertaining one Gary. Maybe people are not aware of the channel because they HAVE seen your acting! Only joking mate. We should see more of you on the TV, seriously, some of the actors now, particularly in the soaps that my wife likes to watch, are absolutely dire. You know, I don't mind the red, the Corniches were really a statement RR in my opinion. Anyway, your car, your colour choice, but it seems a shame to have to take a DA to the lovely paint job. Really looking forward to your next video.
Gary; some advice when removing that short axle nut. Take the smallest tip on your oxy/acetylene torch and apply heat to the nut only _ just until it gets cherry red all over _ this allows as little heat as possible to the short axle. Take you breaker bar and loosen the nut _ do not continue to heat it or reef on the nut, let it cool down on it's own or cool it with your favorite penetrating oil while carefully working the nut back and forth _ it should never be forced, if it doesn't want to come, apply heat to the nut as before until it threads off easily while applying penetrating oil. Repeat this procedure as necessary, but never force it. There is also a possibility the threads were galled already from it being torqued so high from the factory specs, so no matter what was done, there was no saving the short axle. However, with you first tug on the nut with that huge breaker bar, it came pretty easily, this would indicate the the threads were still OK.

Was strange the way the other one was so straight forward. Was thinking maybe the difficulty of the other may have been due to the fact it was of the left reverse wheel thread side. Was really odd. Although it may have looked a little gung ho, I really took my time on it but it just didn’t want to play. Regards.
I think that those are the most substantial rear hub assemblies that I have ever seen! The ones on my 2001 Corvette are tiny next to those. Shame the threads stripped out on that hub shaft, but you definitely are taking the correct approach dealing with it. Procure a suitable replacement! 550 ft/lb torque on that nut! WOW! I was sorry to see the bump damage to the car. I have to say that I am surprised the quarter panel moved like that. Check around the boot lid, and other places, and make sure it didn't move more than you thought it did. I do hope you get lucky, and that the damage to the quarter is very minimal. I have watched your work on that car, and it has really come along nicely. I hope all goes well with the repairs, and I wish you well with the red car, too!
I feel for you Gary regarding the damage on the black car...
Keep the red, Gary. Red over red RR
Hey Gary, love your show you’re an amazing garage mechanic wish I had you as a neighbor I have a 75 Silvershadow that nobody here in America knows how to or wants work on cheers to you John
Thank you Gary, lovely video 😊
Great dedication to your projects Gary
Gary, ay 15.05 I love the use of a scaffold pol over the wrench, Bruce showed me this years ago! Still do this today. extra leverage
I have a RS 1600i in red 1983 I've had it since 2006 I think just had all the floor wielded all new floor pans I used to spray cars for a living but I'm going to spray this one at my mate's garage I love you content I'm thinking about selling the RS and buying something older Rolls-Royce does sound good
So relaxing watching these....
Love your blog. The rear suspension with the Citroen Green Spheres on the red car was different in that it linked the rear axle cross member with the forward trailing arm member into one structure with bolted rods. It gave a more located rear end with less sway and sideways steer effect when cornering and was more stable at higher speeds. The gas struts eliminated the original levelling ram on top of the rear springs which would knock when stationary as they were loosing pressure. Hope you prefer it! Phil.
I don’t blame you! I don’t like the obnoxious red either! If I were you, I‘d paint it again in the original willow gold! That was a nice colour! You are quite ambitious to take on such a big project, but who better to do it than you, who will put so much lovin‘ back into a car that deserves it! Thank you for the lovely upload!❤️

This is one of his easy projects 🙂
Thanks again, Gary. Sympathy on the dent, but fair play taking it to a supermarket!
Awesome Gazza
Gary, I really enjoy watching you work on your cars, especially the Rolls-Royce Corniche. Personally it is way outside my non-existent mechanical skills, but seeing how you methodically go through the process helps me to appreciate the skill involved. Thank you, looking forward to watching the rest of the work being completed. Why not paint the other Corniche Masons Black (or Royal Blue)? Searching for Corniche, there is a Willow Gold one available, but I really couldn't live with the colour. Best regards.
I'm sorry for your mishap on the '75 Such a beauty. Isn't said "what gets you down only makes you stronger" or something to that effect. We can only hope it's true.
Love these episodes, exciting to see what you’re working ( stuck in )on next each episode, the Porsche, the Lotus, the new Corniche ( good call on doing away with the red) sorry for the trouble with the black RR. Can tell that’s one of your favorites, and hurt to see a dent. Love the America trips too, would love to see you turn a wrench with Magnus on his Jag as well. Can’t wait to see you give the cool older gentleman a ride in the Porsche and Lotus as well! Again, thanks for the great videos!
Very professional. Peter Lindop.
Brilliant content well done. This is rapidly becoming the top car channel on KZread. Thanks
A very satisfying watch. Thanks, mate 👍
Nice one
I had a rare Mercedes 230e which I had been lavishing attention on for years. I was stopped at a traffic light and someone on their cell-phone ran into the back of me. My car crumpled all the way from the rear bumper up to the rear window. I was also pushed forwards into the car in front which smashed both my headlamps and cracked my grille. Amazingly I was able to drive the car home, but I got some strange looks from other drivers. The severity of the damage meant the car had to be written off.
Quality as normal, thanks for the upload 👌
Those left hand bumper legs are rare, mine turned out to be swiss cheese but I found a pretty good complete replacement bumper - I'll check out your chroming place in Kent, thank you! Good luck with the red one Gary. Btw, I got the better of one of those bollards with an LDV Maxus once :)
Another great job Always a joy watcing you work So difficult to change break pads in a corniche Cant wait to see your next video Gary
Love these episodes.
Bless you Gary, you will soon have the Rolls back in shape. Love the new addition too :)
Enjoyed this. Some serious engineering is employed on the design of those rear hubs!
OMG you must be absolutely gutted that you bumped the rolls, if anyone can sort it out it’s you, your attention to detail is outstanding, am sure you’ll get it sorted out and all will be good again, your content is amazing 😀😀
Gary I did the exact same thing on my 1975 Silver Shadow I removed the centre piece of the bumper and used wooden blocks and hot boiling water to straighten it out, with a mallet the valence was easier the lamp holder wasnt, it wasnt perfect, but to the untrained eye it was
Another great video mate , what a pita that other short axel was , feels like every time I pick a spanner up something like that happens to me, the joys of working on old stuff, I'm all for keeping things original but personally I love the RED RR , been following the porsche 928 with great interest, when I watched you get it out the garage with Tom I was thinking please God don't let any rodents have gotten in and eat the wiring, your channel is great I'm binge watching your content, loved the xjs and the 924 , I knew a guy back in Liverpool a long time ago had a 924 turbo with a dog leg box probably very few of those left now , it's great your saving these old cars , thanks for your channel I'm really enjoying it, amazing content very interesting 👍
I have a 1990 Silver Spur II and have to replace a wheel arch as rust has come through. I’ve patched and blown it over twice but now it needs doing in the off season. Thanks for the positive Rolls-Royce content.
Hi, and thank you for your lovely videos, sorry for your bumper, I know what you are feeling, I'm exactly like you with my "babies" Thank you
I know we will see the 75’ back in better shape than before the bump. I have to say the chrome bumpers and taller grill make the 75’ really look great. It will be interesting to hear what you have to say about the two brake systems.
I note the replacement bearings looked like NSK brand? I was an ETO in the Merchant Navy and we dry-docked every 5 years. Over 40 electric motors had to have new bearings fitted. My preferences for bearing manufacturers were :- Any Japanese brand, such as Koyo, NSK Any genuine Swedish SKF Any genuine French SKF Any genuine FAG. LEAST favoured were Chinese SKF or any other Chinese brand. My opinions were formed watching my dad and eldest brother rebuuild/overhaul cars/bikes from Daimlers to BMW bikes. Swedish SKF were the favourites, for quality. Sorry about the damage to the bumper/panels. Fingers crossed for a good outcome. Enjoyed the video.
Superb..handy hub persuasion with the big gas axe! Thanks again
Looking forward to future installments. I must agree that changing the colour to Willow Gold, or maybe Seychelles Blue would be far better, and far classier.
Hard work, well done 😢👍
I'm looking forward to watching this later, my favourite car channel
Its quite heart breaking to see the damage however based on all the work you do and attention to detail I am confident she will look even better then she did before.
I started searching from English to Italian, Spanish to Brazilian Portuguese and could not found any video at all about hubs rear/front tutorial or even sample help... You have delivered a great video... Gold information... Top lessons... and a big smile on my face.! Thanks Jesus for your life...knowledge and devotion! Pablo De Oliveira. Ps: Leave the red as it is.. Don't respray....! You have much more to show us!
thanks Gary , great work man
Yep , you got your work cut out! But you’ll enjoy it as we all enjoy watching you.. I would go back to Willow Gold for the new one . Shame about the rear knock on your original Corniche , these silly little things happen , unfortunately. I’m sure you’ll have her back to marvellous again .
I just found your channel, with this video, and I'm excited to see more! Gary, I really like how methodical you are, and how nonplussed you are, especially as you approach an unexpected difficulty. I am not at all mechanical-as attested to by the receipts in my desk from Bentley of Columbus, but you sure have given me a new appreciation for my father's work as a mechanic! Thank you, and keep posting. I love how you care for these spectacular British classics.
There’s that calming music again, Gary. Watching you work and methodically explain processes has inspired me to get out to the shed and work on the cars again today..thanks..nice to see that you have the skills and confidence to take on a new project..keep the updates coming..!,
Well done.
Great video, as usual , Corniche is the only RR I like really , looking to you starting on the red one ,really enjoyed it 👍
WOW: this was not a simple job! You got to that one side just in time. It seems that cars like this one are purchased more than once: they are worth periodic restoration.

I think it’s not uncommon on the left side hub of these cars. Reverse thread on wheels left side also..
Think that’s the biggest breaker bar I’ve seen, RR taking no chances of that coming loose
@classic.obsession

You also need to be careful not to over torque. Regards.
Man, it's like they designed it for the owners to just buy brand new components with that. Though it is Nice to see you got Coated Rotors, Are you running a Semi Metallic or a Ceramic? At least you can be happy you aren't running 6 Piston brembos like I have in my challenger, 5 grand almost just in parts... so maybe 100 pounds? lol Can't wait for the next video ! and that 928 cliff hanger!
Very much enjoyed. Thank you.
Excellent, patient craftsman and presenter, the programs are always engrossing and relaxing to watch. Many thanks!
The "Detroit" axle was a wonderful piece of engineering, but a nightmare to work on!
Looking forward to the build of the red Rolls Gary, exciting project.
I think with the corniche being the prices the are, normally owned by older men who have every intention of restoring but health gets the better of them.
You videos are strangely relaxing to watch. Keep at it!
Hi Gary, Thank you for the great content! I feel you should check the trim shops close to the area you found the red Rolls. I wouldn't be surprised if you found all the interior parts piled in a corner... Best of luck and thank you again.
Gary. Thank you for another very interesting 'episode'. Two things strike a chord here; having the right tool for the job and using what you have (pliers, bench vise etc) to get it done. I agree with you - 'while it is apart - replace the parts that wear. It just makes sense.
I read somwhere else about the rear hub assemblies, not a picnic, well done for tackling it. That rear damage was truly painful and correcting it looks like it may involve some specialist equipment. I wish you the very best of luck with addressing that. Looking forward to the next episode, and the journey with the red Corniche, a real find.
Another great video Gary, especially when the big tools and heat get deployed! Could you do a piece on the history of Macca's Corniche? and do you ever work on Camargue's?
Great video. So informative and as someone who loves cars but is not very practical, it is motivational to encourage me to do jobs on my own car. Thank you for taking the time to share the maintenance of your cars.
Always information and wow what it took to replace those brake rotors 😳😳
Bad luck Mr Mavers, must have been a gut wrench seeing that damage after so much work. Great video though! Cheers
My favourite car channel liked before watched because I know it is going to be another amazing video from Gary.
I really feel for you damaging the car, you must've been gutted, you'd done an amazing job on those bumpers. At least you have a KZread channel and some more content. I'd love to see the Corniche painted a pale blue colour with a white top.
Amazing
Gutted for you about the bumper 😞
Great content as usual Gary, look forward to the next episode 👍
I think I would have just busted the glaze on the discs - rather than do a major repair like that. However, I’m glad you did as I enjoyed the content!
I actually like the red paintwork, seems a shame to repaint it when the paintwork is so nice, would look good with an off white hood, it would certainly be a head turner!
Big thanks for the content really helpfull as always
A little bit of "weekend work" ahead Gary.
Great to see you are on to another Rolly Polly! Try not to worry about the car park nock... happens to everyone. I always park my car away from other cars at supermarkets as I know some old biddy will back into me at some point!

Brilliant episode thanks
Very nice watching the work done this way and having the sense to pick that tool at the time 👍👍👍👍
I love that car! Im a jaguar man myself. I have been for ovee forty years! But im temped by a rolls, i have been for many years. I think im going to make the change. What a shame about the damaed bumper!! I hope you managed to sort it? That red car looks nice! I can't wait to see it running!
