RollieFest: Watches that stand the test of time

"Sunday Morning" recently visited the "Super Bowl of watches": RollieFest, in New York City, where a glittering gathering of watch collectors passed the time ogling seven-figure timepieces. Jane Pauley reports.

There's a Savage in the midst, to be sure. I think it's mostly men because the best-looking and most interesting of these watches were designed "for" men.

  • @jimhim585

While there are day/night complications, those are rare. When they are used it is either in reference to an AM/PM indication or some crazy complications (look up Krayon Anywhere watch). A day/night indication isn't really that useful unless you live under a rock or in a cave. What you are referring to most likely is a moonphase, which is exactly what it sounds like. While not very useful, it is lovely and more of a romantic tradition. These days there are a lot of watch websites, the hole is deep and wide 😉

Kind of reminds me why I sort of soured on watch collecting. In fact the hobby has a lot of collectors of brands that can be fairly affordable with interesting stories and a legit place in horology. But then you get these type of collectors where let's be real it's ultimately about the flex in showing off how much their one of a kind Rolex or Patek is worth to other snobs. And the $1300 event admission fee confirms the desire of these folks to keep the "peasants" out of the hobby.
