    In the 1980s, I was a ski instructor in the Sierra Nevada and had discovered inline skating. It was a natural transition when I began skating and actually had written Rollerblade (they were the leading inline skate maker at the time) suggesting that they associate skating with skiing as a cross-training exercise. Of course, nothing came of that but I continued skating during the off-season. Skating (along with bike riding) definitely prepared me to hit the slopes and kept my legs and back in shape. One thing that I believe is not stressed enough as skaters train for skiing is weighting the outside ski. To get a deep set in a carved turn as in slalom racing, nearly all your weight needs to be on the outside ski. This is counter to recreational skiing where both skis are weighted equally. To transition to racing or any high speed sharp turns it's important to bend the outside knee much further into the turn. Would love to see that emphasized more in skate cross training.

    Have you gone through Rollerblade's Skate To Ski Program? They actually do some drills where you completely unweight your inside skate. We're planning on doing some Skate To Ski videos coming up and we might just go through the program in its entirety as an example for others.

    Do the longer frames on these make quick turns and power stops more difficult? I am looking at the new Maxxum XTs, which seem very similar to these.

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    2 жыл бұрын

    A little bit, yeah. Part of the design of the Maxxum is to feel more like a ski, or to mimic ski performance, which is something the long frame achieves, but at the cost of some quickness. I personally own the Twister Edge and that's the biggest difference I feel between them and the Maxxum 90. The Twister I can make those quick turns and power slides more easily with the 4x80 setup.

    Product review essential parts (missing) 1. How does it compare to the other Rollerblade models, especially the ones that are similar like the Macroblade 90 and 80? 2. How is the molded shoe (most prominent feature on this model) compare to the non moded models of the other similar and comparable products? Is it hotter, is it stiffer, does it hurt your foot in some spot, like how some steel toe boots hurt your feet more than the regular boots, 3. How heavy is it compare to other models? Don't bring in Mongoose because they are basically made of lead. 4. How is the price to benefit ratio compare to the other similar models? 5. Finally, anything that Rollerblade needs to improve on for this model and what you want to see in future models? I hope this is constructive feedback.

    I have Twister Edge X 4x80 (2018 model) and i want some 3x110 but thinking of getting these maximums and swapping out the frames for the 3x110 because they have better venting than the twisters. 4x80 is the biggest I've skated so far and I'm not sure I'll even like 3x110 but im mostly skating/cruising and LOVE parallel carving. I mainly want the 3x110 because I keep hearing that it's easier going over rough terrain. Would you suggest i get the Maximums (4x90) or the Twisters (3x110)?

  • @SkiEssentials

    @SkiEssentials

    3 жыл бұрын

    To be honest, I've skated both quite a bit, and I don't find a huge difference between them. You're right about the venting, however, so if you're going to be doing fitness-based or longer skates, the Maxxum boot might be the better option. Either one will work well with a 3x110 setup. I was hesitant about 3x110 setups myself before I tried one, but I was pleasantly surprised that I still felt comfortable and not like I was way too high off the ground.

    Been looking for a more urban-styled skate with smaller, but still big wheels, and this is looking like the perfect option! I currently have the Rollerblade Macroblade 110 3WD, but would like to have a more stable and maneuverable skate to use around the city, jumping curbs and such. Plus, Rollerblade seems to really be great for people like me who have larger feet. All of the foreign skates never get up to the right size for me! Hahaha, these have my size available though!

    Pretty much perfect for what you're looking for. The boot is definitely more urban inspired than the Macroblade and the 4 90 mm wheels are a ton of fun. For general freeskating, I think the 4 90 mm has become my favorite.

    I hope you still read the comments since your about the only one talking about this particular skates... So here is the thing...I stopped skating for round about 7 years. I used to have K2 Soft boot Skates.... I decided to start skating again. Just fitness skating. I was looking for hard boot Skates. The reason for me is the stability. I remember my mom had hard shell Rollerblades from round about 1993 and they were even great years late on my own feet... So I measured my feet...one is 24,5 and the other more or less something between 24,6 and 24,8...so a little longer. So I ordered Maxxum Edge 90w in size 24.5 (8.5)....and wow these boots are tight...it feels like my larger foot is a little smushed in front. My smaller foot is better. So here is the thing. I remembered my K2 where larger Size but after a while they start becoming loose on my food. I read a lot of comments that this particular ones are tight but they will break in and grow a little in length...but since they have a hard shell surrounding the inside shoe I worry..... Any thoughts?

    Hello! First thing you should do is take out the liner and put your foot in the hard shell skate, in the ski world, we call this shell-fitting. If you're foot is really crammed in there with not much room length wise or width wise, the shell is going to need some work. If you feel like there's plenty of room, it should just be a matter of breaking in the liner. For breaking in the liner, you can just keep wearing the skates and it'll happen eventually, but if it's unbearable you can take a heat gun to them (carefully!), heat up the fabric in the liner, and kind of just work it in where it's tight with your hands (wear gloves) to try to get the liner a little thinner. If the shell seems to tight on your foot without the liner (during your shell-fit), you'll need to have some custom work done. I wouldn't recommend customizing the shell on your own unless you're pretty handy, although it can be done. Best place to bring them would be to a custom ski boot fitter as the process is extremely similar and for someone with the right tools, it's really easy to do and shouldn't cost you very much at all. So, start by shell-fitting yourself and go from there. Feel free to reach out again if you have more questions or need any clarification.

    @@SkiEssentials thanks...just did the trick to take liners out. I got about 2 cm room in the hardshell! I had to buy online. Where I live (in germany) we barely have any Inlineskates in the stores anymore and even if we do...the staff has no clue :D...so I read a lot about to get the right size. Since I have the Maxxum Edge 90w I wanted to make sure that they will get smoother and easier after breaking them in. I got narrow feed and chins so I need tight ones. Oh the webpage says that heating them up to change the shape is not possible!
