One of the most robust and efficient way of separation in plastic recycling is the roller screen, or sometimes referred to as a disc screen. This system offers an excellent solution for high efficiency screening and separation of plastic bottles, cardboard, or any given material that has an obvious size difference.
As seen in the video, there are rollers that move the feedstock forward. While larger items stay on top, smaller sized "fines" fall through the gaps between the individual rollers and are collected at the bottom on a separate conveyor system.
Amazingly, this system is suitable for a variety of materials including wet and sticky ones. Compared with the traditional vibrating screen, the roller screen is not easily clogged and offers a higher separation efficiency.
