Fun Fact The Tavernkeep was a character thought up by the fans (AKA the Critters) and the VA behind them is a known performer in the LGBT world named Mason Alexander Park
Trinket is the one member of the group who truly has plot Armour, and thats because if Matt (The DM), had done anything to him there isn't a place he could have hidden from Laura Baily (Vex's voice actress). Just let you know that Percy invented guns in Exandria, his Pepper Box is the only Gun in the entire world
@CashewZero

That's so freaking cool, Percy being like, the inventor of the gun! I would absolutely love if they had an encounter where someone didn't know to be scared of the gun because they had no clue what it was 🤣

@@CashewZero There will be a few people in this season who will not know what the gun in Percy's hand is and think that the sword they are carrying gives them the advantage
Percy is a pretty popular character, it is worth noting that in this story reality he invented that gun, and as of this point in the worlds timeline he has the only working one.

That's so freaking cool- I don't know if they do this in Vox, but I'm praying there's people who aren't intimidated by the gun at all because they legitimately don't know what it is 🤣 I had a DM do that once and I thought it was hilarious.

My favorite part of that is every time in future campaigns Matt mentions a character holding a flintlock Tal is just like “My past sins will never leave me be” 🤣
As a DM who is currently running a campaign (a few episodes are up on my YT) but I can definitly help clarify some things. 1) Most DM's HATE pets for the specific reason you guys were talking about. The house rule that I use is "your pet is aesthetic only, until you try to bring them into battle or send them to do something risky; afterwards they become vulnerable like everything else" 2) Dragons are hyper intelligent and have the ability to speak many languages and cast spells, some can even polymorph into human form. 3) this series is great and If you guys have any questions feel free to ask!
Yehhhh RIP your inbox Critters have found you and now you’re one of us! Seriously though nothing we love more than showing newbies the ropes and honestly no question is too stupid for us! There’s quite a few channels that have comparison videos of big moments (TPBurrow and Arsequeef are two prominent ones)which show your the crew’s actual reactions in the moment. I think you’ll enjoy seeing the difference’s especially if you don’t have the free time to commit to watching the full shows (totally understandable but I do highly recommend catching up if you can!) but in the meantime Bidet new friends and welcome to the madness!!
Welcome! I hope you enjoy it! As to your last comment about wanting to see a variety of characters, this series has a little, but most of these characters fall into classic tropes. They're well done, but often they were the player's first character. By the time they get into their second campaign (which has also been greenlit for a show: The Mighty Nein) then you start getting some weirder looks at what D&D characters can be.

Even in the actual tabletop games, the first campaign was much more conventional, solid archetypical characters. Which is common in tabletop first time players. Of which roughly half the cast were brand new. In campaign 2 they let themselves experiment more and got more creative. And it became my personal favourite, they're currently around 60 episodes onto their third campaign which is being even more exotic and unconventional.
As far as pet goes, I have only one rule as a DM: always take them into account! I'm sorry, but if you didn't bother to check on it in the last two sessions and now you expect it to be ready for combat, tough luck!

In DnD, dragons are very intelligent and are perfectly capable of talking. To count as an animal, it can't be smart enough to be sapient. Nor can it have magical powers.
belive me guys, when you two star talking about keeping the animal companion alive at all cost, thats was Laura (the voice of Vex, owner of trinket) mentality during the whole campaing 🤣
Great reaction. Critical role has a endless supply of great content and the story of how this all came together *their stream and this show* is equally amazing. Looking forward to watching you guys discover Exandria. Welcome to the Critter family.
Your protection of a character’s pet is absolutely accurate to the campaign. Laura Bailey who play Vex is married to Travis Willingham who plays Grog. The worst fight of their marriage at a certain point was because during one of their games was because Travis put Trinket into danger. Her ranger class is supposed to be all about fighting alongside her bear companion but she was so worried about losing Trinket that she rarely used him in combat.

To be fair, the original 5e Beastmaster Ranger doesn’t exactly facilitate you having a good time with your companion in combat.
I keep being surprised by how many characters from my childhood were voiced by these actors. If pike said terra at all my psyche would be ruined.

Yay! I'm heavily biased about this show as a Critical Role fan from literally day one of the show, but really looking forward to this reaction series. It has some growing pains as they figure out how to balance keeping true to the core story of the campaign vs making it work as a tv show, and particularly with this first arc (when the show was being kick-started, these episodes were a 'stretch goal' so they didn't know for sure they'd even be part of the season), but I think the first season is a lot of fun and by the second season they've definitely found their groove. Spoiler-free CR trivia: the campaign started as a one-shot D&D session Matt Mercer (the DM) put together for Liam O'Brien's (Vax, the rogue) birthday, Laura Bailey (Vex, the ranger) had the same birthday, so they made their characters half-elf twins. The players loved the game so they kept it going as a Pathfinder campaign among friends for almost two years -- the web-channel Geek and Sundry heard about it and approached them about streaming their game on Twitch and thus Critical Role was born. This arc is actually adapting events from their campaign that happened before they started streaming as Critical Role, so it was brand new content even for a lot of fans who had already watched the stream.
This is one legendary series, can't believe some havn't seen this yet. You 2 are in for one wild ride. I love all the characters but one that sticks out the most is Scalen.
You're in for a wild ride, Season 2 is a huge jump in quality in almost every aspect, can't wait to watch your reactions.
extra information: animators don't like animals at all so they really like killing them the first opportunity they get and they actually talked about this in the watch along critical roll did on youtube
I personally, feel that, Vax'ildan is, Liam O'Brien's, amalgamation of, all their, past role's, personalities forged, into one, magnificent character.
The Bear's name is Trinket, he's adopted by the twins.

So excited to see you all react to another one of my favourite shows! I followed the campaign as it was played as well as their second campaign, also I love the voice cast this show has. I can’t wait to see more!!
So excited to see you guys reacting to this one! I’ve been a fan of Critical Role for years, but it’s hard to recommend a show to people when the episodes run about 4 hours long! That said, there are lots of clips on KZread that compare scenes from Vox Machina with what actually happened during their game, if you’re interested! The first two episodes are an original story to introduce the characters, but episode 3 on is straight from their first campaign! Also, the guy with brown hair who Scanlan pees on is voiced by their DM, Matt Mercer, and was designed to look like him too. There’s an ongoing gag with unfortunate things happening to the ‘Matt’ character (he’s kind of their version of Cabbage Man from ATLA.)
I love this show and am glad you are waching it.
You two are a powerhouse and the videos you guys make are edited very well, you should do a Q&A I'm curious how this channel came by : D
Fun trivia fact: These first two episodes are based off of Critical Role's home brew game before they started streaming. About the voice actors, here you go! Edit: put in the correct CR link. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d4OZvMySitfTe6Q.html

😂 Gotta love when David Tennant goes full Scottish brogue and yells "FUUUUUUCK!" I mean, you can't help but love it. 😂 Keyleth has to activate her ability to speak to plants or to animals. It's not constantly on. As far as game mechanics, animals are what we'd consider normal creatures, while dragons count as a "magical creature" which is another type. Keyleth doesnt have a special ability to speak to them. Good news is that a lot of dragons are able to speak the normal languages.

Hello! So... I confess, the following comment is a copy and paste of one I wrote quite a while back, have tweaked several times, and so now I fall back on it to give a Critical Role explanation. Yes, it's a bit longer than average, but... there's A LOT of stuff to cover, I summarized as best I could. Welcome to the world of Critters. Once upon a time, many years ago a talented voice actor was about to have a birthday, and to celebrate Matt Mercer, another well-established voice actor and talented GM (Game Master) offered to run a role-playing game for a group of friends... who also all happened to be voice actors. So, a group of nerdy ass voice actors sat around and played D & D. The group had so much fun they made it a regular thing, Felicia Day of 'Geek and Sundry' heard about this game and approached them with the idea of streaming it... and it became a hit in its field, eventually growing into its own company and channel known as Critical Role. Parting on good terms with their previous home, Felicia Day has a small role in the beginning of episode 2. Vox Machina was the group of characters they played in Campaign One, there has also been a Campaign Two, in which the cast plays a whole new group of adventurers. Both are set in the same world, but on different continents, and Campaign Two is set a few decades after the end of Campaign One. Each campaign ran for over a hundred episodes which are all over three hours long, and we are over 60 episodes into Campaign Three. They have also put out a bunch of other content, from talk shows to shorter games in other Role-Playing worlds. They have played live shows to sold out theaters, become the number one channel on Twitch, have merch stores in multiple countries, have comics and actually published books of fan art (there are some talented as F*** Critters) they also started a nonprofit charity to... "Leave the World a Better Place." The whole cast would all tell you that they never expected any of this, that it has been a wild ride and they are just trying to hold on and be worthy of it. A few years ago they started looking into the possibility of an animation, but no one was buying, or at least not on their terms, so they went to the Critters to try and raise upwards of $700,000.00 over the course of 45 days in order to make a two-part special for themselves and their fans.... The Critters laughed, and smashed through not just the goal amount, but also ALL of their stretch goals within an hour. By day 45 they had raised nearly 11 and a half million dollars, added a bunch more stretch goals, and the two-part special became a season. Amazon took note and basically funded a second season (3rd season was green lit just before season 2 dropped) to get the streaming rights, but the show is created by Critical Role. Those Nerdy Ass Voice actors are the producers and have full creative control. Most of the people they hired, from writers to artists and composers are also fans who love and know the story and its world. It is one of the truest examples of a project of love I have ever seen. During the production of season one of the animation they put out a series of videos to keep their fans in the loop of how things were going. Interviewing the people behind the scenes and giving non spoiler info about the production. It's a good watch and will really help you understand the devotion and love that went into this project, as well as introduce the cast. Personally, how the lead composer got the job is one of my fav stories. Here is that play list. kzread.info/head/PL1tiwbzkOjQwJdoNetaNJE1zZVOE7xi8u The latest big news is that Amazon has signed off on producing a season based on the Campaign Two group, known as The Mighty Nein! And no I did not misspell Nein. They have also reached a multi year agreement that Amazon gets the first look at any new shows OR movies Critical Role wants to produce. Many a fans ears perked up at the mention of possible movies given the popularity of a particular 4 episode and done Campaign, “Exandria Unlimited Calamity” It is a separate adventure set in the same world, but way, WAY, before Vox Machina's or The Mighty Nein's Time. Once again, welcome to this new world, hope you enjoy your visit and stay for a while... it's a devoted community with a lot of heart... and dicks... so many dicks... LoL. Let Chaos Reign!
If you watch cartoons or play games you likely have come across most of the cast at some point or another.
DO NOT read up on the show before watching the rest! You'll just spoil the series. You aren't disrespecting the actors by watching their content without doing a full graduate thesis on them, that's just silly! The show is better without spoilers...especially if you're doing reactions.

@@NiviNeepo Through once the season is over, or once you have seen both, it can be fun to look up videos that show the campaign and the show depictions of things, they do change some events to make them work better in a animated show. (like some things might hit really well after 4 hours of playing but if you tried to show it direct in a 30 min animated episode it's not hitting as well so make a few changes...)
Good grab regarding looking like "Avatar The Last Airbender", because the animation studio is the same one.

This is a common misconception, but its not really true. The main studio, Titmouse, only worked on some cinematic for the Avatar/Korea videogames, not the show. Also, there seems to be some additional confusion, because the Korean production studio on this show did work on Korra, but it was only season 3 and beyond. The look of the show is actually mostly because of the tons of prior fan art from the original livestream. Combine that with the incredible talent of many folks like Arthur Loftis at Titmouse, and the legendary Lead Character Designer, Phil Bourassa (who, prior to this show, was the character designer at Warner doing the DC Universe movies and shows for the last11 years) and you have this show. If there's a sense of familiarity, its far more likely you are getting that vibe from Phil Bourassa's character designs than anything like Avatar/Korra...
