Also, Ashley isn't just voicing a character, she is voicing HER player character. The one she made and played in Campaign One, all of the Vox Machina cast is, the original players are the voices, the producers, and in some cases the writers.

It's the opposite: This show is based on the characters from Critical Role, this is from their first campaign about 4-5 years ago. The first two episodes will seem very fast: It's an introductory story that took place before they started live-streaming their campaign. The main story arc for Season 1 begins on Episode 3. If you watch a lot of anime, you should recognize a LOT of these voice actors!

OK, so quick critical role history lesson. It started as a home game with a bunch of voice actors, and then they started streaming it on twitch. After years of growing a huge loving community they decided to do a Kickstarter for a show based on their first campaign(the legend of vox machina). It raised over 11 million dollars and was enough for them to make it completely on their own without corporate oversight from a big company. Then Amazon agreed to let them release it on their platform, but it's all written and directed by the cast and their trusted friends.

Overall, Critical Role is currently in the middle of their third campaign. Both Campaigns 1 and 2 ran for significantly over 100 episodes, each one between 3-5 hours of live play DnD. In each campaign, the cast creates new characters, and it is separted in time and space from the ones before (but that doesn't mean there aren't some overlap, especially between 1 and 3). They've also produced shorter campaigns and one-shots. The whole cast are all professional voice actors, and they often have friends come play for a session or two as guest characters, many of them also professional voice actors. Because of their extensive resumes in the VO community, they were also able to get a lot of amazing talent to voice the various other characters (not Vox Machina) who were all voiced by the Dungeon Master Matt Mercer during the stream. They have several actors from Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, a former Dr. Who, a Hobbit, a Disney "princess" and many others lending their voices. The cast all love animation and they made sure that when they made an animated version of the story they told around the table, they spent the money where it was best used: the story, the voices, and the animation. Enjoy! (and after you finish all 12 episodes of Season 1, Season 2, also 12 episodes, is already out. We'll have to wait for Season 3 until, probably, next January, if it follows the patterns of the first two seasons.)

Bidet new Critters. (Bidet is a common greeting among Critters, the origin of which you will see in early season 2). As you have said, you know little to nothing. i will give you a little background on the origin of the show and critical role in general. Critical role got started as a one-shot game for Liam O'Brien's birthday. Everyone enjoyed themselves so much that they made it into an ongoing campaign. After playing for roughly 2 years they were asked if they would be interested in bringing their game to the Geek & Sundry studio so it could be streamed on Twitch. They agreed, although they did not expect a good reception. As they have said "no one is going to want to watch "a bunch of nerdy ass voice actors" sitting around playing d&d for hours, so we will give it a few weeks and then go back to the living room... They quickly became the most popular show on the channel. After a few years, finishing the campaign with Vox Machina and starting a new campaign called The Mighty Nein, th separated from G&S and started their own channel and company. It was at this point that they began to try to get an animated show in the works (something fans had been asking about for years). Initial response was either lack of interest due to not understanding what kind of show they were pitching or interest as long as the studio had full control over the show and rights to the property. CR wasn't willing to accept those terms, so they turned to the fans. "You want animated critical role, and we want to make it. Do you want it enough to put your money where your mouth is?" Set up a kickstarter asking for $750K in 45 days to make a 22-minute animated special. They hit their goal in 45 minutes and finished the 45 days with almost 89K backers pledging nearly $11.4 million to fund an entire 10 episode season. Once the distribution agreement was settled with Amazon, they put up the money to make two additional episodes for a total of 12 as well as agreeing to finance a second season. Season 3 has also been greenlit now, as well as announcing a deal being reached to animate their second campaign as well.

Bidet! Welcome to one of the best shows in the past several years. For Keyleth, the shock during the dragon fight was a mix of her character’s insecurities + dragons mechanically having an ability that causes fear just by being around them. She’s also like a reverse Batman: incredibly powerful as long as she doesn’t have too much time to overthink it & doubt herself. The show only gets exponentially better from here!

"Here's what I know about this show... Nothing." *settles in with popcorn * LOVE that. :D Always a delight to see new folks discover these characters. Critical Role campaigns tell genuinely wonderful stories, but they ARE a huge time commitment. I love that the animation brings at least a small part of them to a wider audience. And Campaign 2 has been greenlit too! The voice credits are definitely worth a look each episode, so many familiar names. But I would avoid the full season list because there will be some spoilers for key characters. If you watch a lot of dubbed anime, or play a lot of games, then you WILL have heard most of the main cast somewhere. And the guests are stellar. If you're interested in seeing some of the comparisons between table play and animation, there are a lot of "table to screen" comparisons for scenes on youtube, but again, tread with caution because spoilers. It's well worth not knowing anything about this story :) If you enjoy the first two episodes, then you're golden for the rest of the show, because it only gets better from here. The first two are sort of a primer (don't get me wrong, I love them, but compared to the rest they're a tiny bit bumpy, pacing-wise.) [/waffling ] ANYWAY, sorry. I get rambly.

You guys are gonna LOVE this show. It's awesome. Fun bit of world lore - the crystals you guys were talking about on the airships are called "Brumestone". They're a very rare form of mineral that is tightly regulated and controlled by various consortiums - which is why airships aren't common. Which is also why Vox Machina were so excited to be on an airship.

This might be something you tack on to another episode, but there's a song called "Your Turn to Role" created by the person who voiced Scanlan. Depending on how far ahead you've watched, it might be worth a listen, because a lot of the music in this show has its roots in that song. It wasn't made until the Mighty Nein campaign, but it was used in the Kickstarter to create this show.

U got that backwards, the show is based off of the critical roll live stream specifically the 1st campaign, they are aiming for 5 seasons up to 3 is already confirmed, but as a note thier 2nd campaign is also getting animated and they are aiming for 5 seasons with that one as well. No homework needed all the info is presented in the animated series for non CR ppl to be able to enjoy with some fun easter eggs for long time fans of the series. (They follow the streamed campaign's story pretty well only changing things for legal reasons (like god names) or to give a storyline a bit more punch... as a long time fan I have loved both seasons even knowing where the story will go. Glad to see u guys picked it up, now to add another reactor watch thru to my collection, I especially like seeing ppl unfamiliar with the property or actors react :) (Below is some of the stuff the cast has been in that u might know, this is off the top of my head so sorry if there's not much for everyone) Matt Mercer: Sylas (u haven't met this character yet) the "it's high noon" guy from overwatch, and Levi in attack on titan Marisha Ray: Keyleth, creative director of the CR brand Laura Bailey: Vex, Lust from FMAB Travis Willingham: Grog, Mustang from FMAB, and Thor in marvel animation and games Liam O'Brien: Vax, Garra from Naruto Taliesan Jaffe: Percy, The Flash in DC animation and games Sam Reigal: Scanlan, Donatello TMNT animated Ashley Johnson: Pike, and Ellie form "the last of us" series of games Edit: CR and thier stories have always been rated R, violence, revenge, retribution, sex, drugs, rock and roll... they really went hard trying to show that in the 1st 2 episodes, while it is a cartoon it's not for the little ones (kids not gnomes lol)

The cast of Critical Role are all voice actors by trade! That’s how they make their livings on top of doing their live-streamed D&D game once a week & running the Critical Role company. In DnD Chromatice (color) dragons are evil, and each color has different breath weapons and immunity/resistances In this Epsiode its a Blue Dragon which has lightning breath weapon and immunity, which is why when Keyleth hits it with Call Lightning spell it doesn't do anything, if it didn't have immunity call lightning actually does really good damage. and what's even cooler imho, when Marisha, Keyleth's voice actor and player from the actual play, would do spells she would act out the hand gestures, and for call lightning she actually did the hand gesture the character does in the show... also if you do end up playing DnD, a lot of the spells and god's ect are from the default DnD setting that Matt used when creating his world, like a lot of DM's do, but because of copyright they had to use generic terms for the show, like when Scanlan uses the hand, in the show he calls it Scanlan's Hand, in dnd its Bixby's hand, Pike's god is Sarenrae but in the show its the Everlight

The crew of Critical Role really missed the boat by not hosting a Reaction watch party when they watched their creation brought to life for the first time as a group.

Hello! So... I confess, the following comment is a copy and paste of one I wrote quite a while back, have tweaked several times, and so now I fall back on it to give a Critical Role explanation. Yes, it's a bit longer than average, but... there's A LOT of stuff to cover, I summarized as best I could. Welcome to the world of Critters. Once upon a time, many years ago a talented voice actor was about to have a birthday, and to celebrate he asked Matt Mercer, another well-established voice actor and talented GM (Game Master) to run a role-playing game for a group of friends... who also all happened to be voice actors. So, a group of nerdy ass voice actors sat around and played D & D. The group had so much fun they made it a regular thing, Felicia Day of 'Geek and Sundry' heard about this game and approached them with the idea of streaming it... and it became a hit in its field, eventually growing into its own company and channel known as Critical Role. Parting on good terms with their previous home, Felicia Day has a small role in the beginning of episode 2. Vox Machina was the group of characters they played in Campaign One, there has also been a Campaign Two, in which the cast plays a whole new group of adventurers. Both are set in the same world, but on different continents, and Campaign Two is set a few decades after the end of Campaign One. Each campaign ran for over a hundred episodes which are all over three hours long, and we are over 50 episodes into Campaign Three. They have also put out a bunch of other content, from talk shows to shorter games in other Role Playing worlds. They have played live shows to sold out theaters, become the number one channel on Twitch, have merch stores in multiple countries, have comics and actually published books of fan art (there are some talented as F*** Critters) they also started a nonprofit charity to... "Leave the World a Better Place." The whole cast would all tell you that they never expected any of this, that it has been a wild ride and they are just trying to hold on and be worthy of it. A few years ago they started looking into the possibility of an animation, but no one was buying, or at least not on their terms, so they went to the Critters to try and raise upwards of $700,000.00 over the course of 45 days in order to make a two-part special for themselves and their fans.... The Critters laughed, and smashed through not just the goal amount, but also ALL of their stretch goals within an hour. By day 45 they had raised nearly 11 and a half million dollars, added a bunch more stretch goals, and the two-part special became a season. Amazon took note and basically funded a second season (3rd season was green lit just before season 2 dropped) to get the streaming rights, but the show is created by Critical Role. Those Nerdy Ass Voice actors are the producers and have full creative control. Most of the people they hired, from writers to artists and composers are also fans who love and know the story and its world. It is one of the truest examples of a project of love I have ever seen. During the production of season one of the animation they put out a series of videos to keep their fans in the loop of how things were going. Interviewing the people behind the scenes and giving non spoiler info about the production. It's a good watch and will really help you understand the devotion and love that went into this project, as well as introduce the cast. Personally, how the lead composer got the job is one of my fav stories. Here is that play list. kzread.info/head/PL1tiwbzkOjQwJdoNetaNJE1zZVOE7xi8u The latest big news is that Amazon has signed off on producing a season based on the Campaign Two group, known as The Mighty Nein! And no I did not misspell Nein. They have also reached a multi year agreement that Amazon gets the first look at any new shows OR movies Critical Role wants to produce. Many a fans ears perked up at the mention of possible movies given the popularity of a particular 4 episode and done Campaign, “Exandria Unlimited Calamity” It is a separate adventure set in the same world, but way, WAY, before Vox Machina's or The Mighty Nein's Time. Once again, welcome to this new world, hope you enjoy your visit and stay for a while... it's a devoted community with a lot of heart... and dicks... so many dicks... LoL. Let Chaos Reign!

I think this is my fastest time subbing then unsubbing from a channel. Those two sounded pretty great until the very last line of the video where they mentionned streaming Terfschool Legacy.
