@@annb1265 so true! Years ago I had a student whose first name was “Optimum.” Every time I saw her name, in my head I heard the jingle for Optimum Tax Relief. 🤣 (It was a tv commercial in our area.) And there was a woman who had emigrated from an Asian country who said that if she had a child she’d like to name her “Cellar Door” bc it sounded pretty. I’m not kidding! But at least I can understand her reaction to a new language vs the other one.

When I was in elementary school - 1970s - there was a girl in my grade named Cleotris. I’m serious. Teachers would have to be VERY careful about pronouncing it. She went by Cleo, but at the beginning of the school year she would get mercilessly laughed at by so many kids. Why would a parent do that to a child?

Lol I just got really sad because I know a little baby named Birdie but she moved states. In preschool there was a Winter and a Summer in my class. Winter had pale skin, icy blue eyes, and white blonde hair. Summer had more tan skin, brown eyes, and I think orangish brown hair.

I had a Maximilian, Your-Highness, I called him Yo. Also a kid whose mom wrote his name in all caps. She would get angry at me if I didn’t. So whenever I saw him, I would scream his name at the top of my lungs. MARCUS!!! JK

I enjoy rolling my eyes at ridiculous names as much as the next person, but I don't understand getting angry about them.

I'm 50...and throughout my childhood & teen years I met kids named Meadow, Summer, and others I've forgotten. In college I met a guy who said his name was Benoni, though he went by Ben. And-my cousin (one generation older than me) named two of his kids Mars & Silver (they're about my age now). Also knew a man in town when I was growing up whose first name was Truxton-that was certainly uncommon (he went by "Trux"). I'm not making a value judgment on any of these name choices, it's just interesting. I do feel bad for folks who have truly difficult names that cause others to react or which are hard to fit on standardized paperwork (such as what Elon Musk named his most recent offspring, with a bunch of symbols & math calculations...oh dear).

I knew two girls back in the early 80s, Xochitl, and Xiamara and of course I knew a couple of guys in school, Xavier. And Hollywood celebrities named their kids very unique names, I guess to outdo each other. One of Kim Kardashian’s kid is named Psalm, one of Kylie Jenner’s kid name is Aire. Nicholas Cage’s kid is named Kal-El. Famous chef, Jamie Oliver’s kids names are, Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, Petal Blossom Rainbow, Buddy Bear Maurice, and River Rocket Blue Dallas.. And Jason Lee named his kid, Pilot Inspektor, Jason Lee named his kid after an album; The Sophtware Slump, title: “He’s Simple, he’s dumb, he’s the Pilot”. Those poor kids, no matter how wealthy and famous someone is, kids will still tease their kids, and how selfish of the celebrity parents to try to be too unique and outdo other celebrities because it’s just unheard if they name their babies, Mary, Cathy, John, or James 🤦🏻‍♀️ Lol

Yep! I’m an elementary teacher, and I interact with all the kids. I’ve had least 75% of these names.

In the 90's I knew a young feller, teen father, whose daughter was Raven (he was the whitest white ones skin could be, tho never met his daughter.) The thing I remember most is a prolonged discussion of whether voluntary amputation was a mental health problem (me) or just a personal autonomy thing that people should be able to cut off, say, their left hand, if it really bothers them. And yes, he had a friend do that. Oh how I miss the simple 90's in liberalville...
