great to see you’ve come around on the pre-ceramic subs and sea dwellers. I have a 14060 and I’ve considered updating to the 114060, but when i see the new ones in person, I keep coming back to the ‘vintage’ cases. Understated, comfortable, more soul. Congrats!

Great video, completely agree that value increases in watches does take away from enjoyment. I got a kermit 4 years ago and then stopped enjoying wearing it once it doubled in price as it didn't feel like the same watch. Sold it, bought a mint 16600 and wear it everyday. Love it, a bit bulkier than the 16610lv but in a good way. I think these are hugely undervalued considering there were Rolex flagship sports watches when new. :-)

I hadn't even considered pre-ceramic until I saw your other videos. I'm going to go with the 40mm sea-dweller do to the added heft. You are right though, they ceramic bezels are shiny and nice but remind me of a glossy piano. The tones and vibe of the pre-ceramic remind me of a vintage Leica camera. Great channel.

Well done on that. Absolute tool watch, great size, and a fair bit of heft too. I was trying one on yesterday, and it's just an absolute tank, but the proportions are just right. There's nothing it will not stand up to. I too much prefer 5 digit Rolex models for daily use, and my 16570 gets 80% of my wrist time. If I was going for a dive watch, I'd get a 16600 as I am still kicking myself for letting go of my 16660.

I’m with yah! I just flipped my 114060 for a minty version of a 2009 z serial 16600. I loved the 114060 but always looked sideways at it due to the lugs. Once I tried the 16600, I was sold (especially the example that I got, Unpolished, minty, etc.) My best analogy for the 16600 is masculine elegance with modern vintage lines. When you service it, make sure they change out the helium escape valve. Rolliworks in San Francisco just serviced my 16600 and with shipping it totaled at $700 (including valve replacement). The watch now runs at plus 1 seconds per day.

Michael S Per Rolex’s service requirements, they always change the HEV at service. For $150, I think it’s worth the piece of mind knowing that it’s new and won’t leak. Make sure your independent watch maker has a Rolex parts account too so that they don’t use aftermarket components. Best,

I have a 16600, check this out - I also have a 2010 Daytona with the new bracelet all solid polished and brushed links, solid milled clasp. I took the bracelet off the Daytona and put it on the Sea-Dweller using the Daytona spring bars since the Sea-Dweller bars are just a bit too fat. I then put the all brushed, hollow links of the 16600 on the Daytona, it took the bling of the Daytona way down in a lovely way. I'm having fun with my watches, and the newer bracelet on the Sea-Dweller just brings the whole look up stunning, and heavy.

Congrats on the new buy looks fantastic! And a really decent price too. I have to agree that pre ceramics look better in almost all cases. The only aspects that put me off a bit are the bracelet and clasps of the older models and the possibility of having a franken watch/getting ripped off etc. For me buying pre-ceramic would require doing a fair bit homework first but I'd love to own one one day. I was browsing Chrono 24 for a 16710 today thinking how much nicer they are compared to the modern GMT models - but it's getting to the point where I would not feel comfortable wearing a 10 thousand dollar watch...

Thanks mate, very pleased with the purchase. Yeah I think depending on which watch you want from the pre ceramic world, it is always worth doing your homework, it took me one year to buy a 16600, I remember I started looking at the them in April 2018! That classic Rolex Pepsi is just stunning but it's gone into stupid territory price wise now. I think the 16700 is a better bargain than the 16710 and you can have a quickset date which is super useful

Recently got a 16710 Pepsi as an Engagement present. Not enough time with it to comment on preferences versus the modern references but honestly I like both 5-digit and 6-digit. There is no doubt that 6-digit is a step above in quality. The finishing, materials, feel, and engineering are all better. I have grown to be ok with the fat lugs on my 114060 because it is a divers watch. I don't think I'd appreciate them on other models. I have small wrists but I'm not a small guy so it looks fine on me but I agree that 6-digit Rolex models can look pretty awkward on lanky guys. I see some Asian gentleman wear them in my area and it sometimes looks like they are being worn by the watch. Overall though, I like the diversity. The Sub gives me No-Date, modern solidity, glidelock, supercase/maxi dial, and a different function. The 16710 gives me classic elegant proportions, smaller dial plots, pop of color, date function, and of course the GMT. I think the SD43 looks better on you personally. You are a big dude so the 39mm case of the SD doesn't match your frame as well. It still looks fine though and there is a bit of the old school tooly charm about it on your wrist. I think the SD43 is your true lifer.
