    The 116600 is my grail watch. It has so much going for it. I totally agree that this is the best Sea Dweller ever made. 40 mm diameter No cyclops Ceramic bezel Fully graduated 20 mm bracelet Elegant lugs It's a little thicker and heavier than a Submariner, but most of that thickness is the case back. Which, by the way, is engraved. 1220 meters of water resistance, helium escape valve. I know it's overkill, and you're never gonna need the HEV, but it's still cool, and they fit it in pretty much a Submariner case. I don't mind the larger SD50, but it's unnecessary. Other than the size it didn't do anything to the specs. I did have a look at the Deepsea, but that's just too massive to be an everyday watch. The 124060 is a good second choice for me. The proportions are better than the 114060, it doesn't have the maxi case. It is bigger than the 114060, but not by so much that you'd really notice it.

    I traded in my sub date and some change for the SD4K and it was the best decision I could have made. I’ve also never seen another one in the wild but see subs all the time. That being said I ended up also getting a no date sub later on just because.

    Thanks Michael for sharing. The SD4000 is a true collectable watch. I currently own a 16610LN and the 126600. As I am getting older I started appreciating pre-ceramic small dial markers. However I feel the SD43 proportion of the watch are perfect. I call it a submariner killer. I like it better than the new ceramic submariners. The red letters are such a nice touch. I agree with your opinion that is a bit chunky. I have a 7.25 inch wrist I still looks a bit big. Not to mention much heavier than a submariner. That is the only thing a don't like about it. My 16610LN is sooooo comfortable with the older bracelet. You didn't mention the weight difference on the SD 4000 vs SD43. I wonder how that compare. Again thanks!

    Thanks mate. Yes same write size here and for me the sd50 just felt a bit clunky. More now than before since I lost weight since 2020. That’s why I let it go in the end - the sd4k just felt like a sub on me and felt more special than a sub. 40mm is good for me, 42mm max. Of course the red Lettering etc is awesome but I also felt that the bezel was a bit too chunky for the dial since the dial size was never upsized, only the case. I’m happy with the change, haven’t looked back. 170g for the 116600. About 195 for the Red50

  • @Nexus.Achiles

    Since I got my SD43 in 2017, the only thing I could critique the watch about was the size of the dial. I've always found it too small for the case. Same dial as in the Sub 40. I don't understand why they chose not to proportionally increase the dial along with the rest of the watch. Same problem with the Deepsea in fact, only made worse with the ring lock and 44mm case. What puzzles me even more is the fact they increased the dial in the 42mm Explorer II and in the Yacht-Master 42, so why not in the SD43? I'm wearing a Breitling Seawolf as I write this and the dial is so much larger. Same with my PO2500 45.5, much better dial proportion. Other than that, the SD43 looks perfect to me. Great size, tapered lugs, cyclops looks better against the larger case size. I guess true perfection doesn't exist.

  • @SteelmoonWatches

    You re right, ist absolutely the Truth. The Reason is, that the Watch-Machine is the same as in other watches...it cost to much money for Rolex to to make a larger inside-machine. Also, they only make the Case larger, not the machine. that is the reason, why the dial is too small in case. The Cyclop - Position is near the Between of the watch, while they use the old machines....

  • @ChristopherNegroni

    @ChristopherNegroni

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@donaldneo4317 my over analysis as I owned both is that Rolex at the time lazily put a sub bracelet on the SD4k. So what you get is nice lugs on the SD4k but they are inherently shorter so with the sun bracelet there is a portion that doesn’t integrate and juts out if you look at it from the angle. Bothered the heck out of me.

  • @TriforceRich
    @TriforceRich2 жыл бұрын

    The SD43 balances out the thickness better, has a nicer satin dial, more refined lugs, and that great hint of red. I was also in the camp of considering the SD4K for the longest time. I figured it would be like the Sub but that have uniqueness that separated it. I got to try it on in-person and it just felt off for me. It was just too thick relative to its case size, and while more unique than the Sub it just felt inferior from a practical point of view. Technically, it's superior; however, the HEV and extra water resistance are useless even if one is a serious diver. The Sub could be worn on all occasions but the SD4K would struggle with formal attire due to the thickness. The Sub is more comfortable as well. So overall, I see the SD4K as a collector and investor piece. As you said, no one is going to know that you are wearing a SD and will assume it's a Sub anyway.

    Thank you for the great video Michael. I am currently in the market for an SD4k as I feel I finally understand how underrated it is. I have 4 Subs.. Hulk, Starbucks, Sub Date (11 series) and a Bluesy(12 series). I have had a chance of owning an SD43 and I feel it is too big, too heavy and even if my wrist was bigger I still prefer the SD4k. I think you hit on several great points, and personally I would say after wearing a Starbucks having it being slightly less boxy than the first Supercase watches, I can appreciate the SD4k being more closer to the older divers and even a bit closer to the pre-ceramics with the smaller lugs and rounder case.

    I have the SD50 and always thought the hands were a bit small for the bezel, not the other way around. My wrist is 6.5in so to your point I cant wear it. Agree SD4k is probably the best diver they made and its not as ubiquitous as the sub, love the graduated bezel. Been searching for a nice example but hate paying grey prices, though now is a good as time as any to get one. If youre a one watch guy then sub, as you said it is more versatile in a suit, but if you have many then SD4K is the pick.

    As long as the handles do not protrude, it will be fine. I think that with a 17cm wrist you can wear the SD43 without problems, it also depends on other body measurements; because of your arm size, the SD43 definitely suits you much better. 40mm it is a small size for a diver IMO, but elegant and comfortable for daily use, also the proportions are more harmonious in the Sub. Note that the L2L distance of the SD43 (50.1mm) is less than that of the Explorer II.

    Have to disagree. I do really like the 116600, but in todays watch style and "norm" a 40mm for a "super" diver as I like to call them. Its just to small. Thats where the SD43 (you called it the SD50) shines. Its the perfect size. And now with the Sub at 41, it makes the SD4K even further out. It is cool that its a ceramic with no date mag. The other thing about all of this comes to personal pref. I have always loved the look of a sub (or any rolex diver) but the market is so deep with them. "everyone" has one. people who know nothing about watches have them. Thats why the SD43 is king. Its enough like the Sub in style to "do" the same things as far as versatility in dress goes, but isn't a sub. The SDDS is cool too, but its far beyond the "simple" sub that can go with anything from board shorts to the board room. but I will admit you have to have the wrist to where it. no 6.25" wrists need apply. at 7.25" or 180mm, it fits me perfect. Now, lets discuss the mk1 vs mk2 dial! LOL
