The Rolex Oyster Perpetual (or the OP, if you're cool, and sick of saying 8 syllable phrases) is THE entry level Rolex and on top of all that -- it's one of Rolex's best (at least we think so). So let's take a closer look at a watch that is trading at two times it's value and shows Rolex may just be one giant double reinforced bubble that will never ever pop. Does it beat the Datejust? Does it beat the DAYTONA (no, too different). Does it beat up people committing crimes in New York City? Find out!

Actually I think you got this one wrong Michael. The OP is the most quintessential Rolex as Rolex is probably most famous for the oyster case and the perpetually winding movement - hence, oyster perpetual. Everything else you mentioned came later. It also has a direct lineage all the way back to the 30s with the Rolex bubblebacks.

I think this is - and Rolex actually say so - the essence of the Oyster. You get the movement that is also in the Explorer and the no date Submariner plus 100m water resistance. It's also quite understated if you choose one of the muted dial colours. In a way the green dial is even more of "the essence" as it is the Rolex brand colour. But yes, in terms of good proportions it's the 36mm.

I am still sad the 39s went away. I find the 36s to be too small for my wrist/height/taste, but the 39s are a sweet spot. That nice balance between sporty and a little bit dressy. For a dress watch, sure. These are not that though. Honestly, 39 on me looks like 36 does on regular people. 41 is just all out sporty looking in the OP style of watch. I think Omega has a nice compromise in the 38mm Aqua Terra. That's why my father picked that one up vs. the 41mm AT, even though he has a bigger wrist than I do and can pull the 41 off quite easily.

The Rolex OP is the most original Rolex you can get. It carries the brands successful innovations O and P on which every other sportsmodel from Rolex is based on, from Submariner to Explorer and also DJ to DD. You can not take the DJ and describe the OP as the non fluted and non date version. These are two different models. In addition to that the OP design is just phenomenal. Nothing that disturbs, very clear and elegant. A watch why watch enthusiasts would love the Rolex brand. Nothing showy and blinky. Just perfection and quality. A perfect connection between a sportswatch and a dress watch. The real essence of the brand. I mean these are the undisputable facts that every watch expert should know before setting up a review. The purpose of the OP is not to collect all type of colors. I mean all other models have colorful dials, too if you include the gold models as well.
The Rolex OP at retail price seems just okay but more than the retail price then it become ridiculous, not worth it

The DJ fluted bezel is not 8600 USD, maybe 10 yrs ago. I just purchased one 2 months ago from an AD, mint dial, very nice. Like someone said in the comments, I plan to hold onto it forever. It'll make a nice heirloom. The OP is a nice watch but underwhelming. A good deal if purchased at retail price or small premium. I would certainly rock one at retail, especially that green dial. I would pay a moderate premium for the pink dial 41. That one is ridiculous. I am waiting for this market craziness to subside and be able to buy it at 2k over retail. In time, with patience, I believe it will be possible.

I love that it’s taking on my memories of hanging with my kids, going skiing, a big gouge from putting an IKEA family coffee table together… although I still would like an entry-level OP 41 Blue, well, because it’s Rolex! I do also love the fluted bezel and jubilee of the Datejust, but I don’t like to be flashy so I think the OP is the perfect GADA watch to take on memories, just like my Speedy! Love you channel!
I LOVED Elvis and think Austin Butler did an amazing job in the role. The watches you could see in the movie were very nice although I was hoping to see a Rolex King Midas
The 36 mm is the right dress watch size - good for women, too - a nice unisex watch - below the radar when wearing this Rolex - like the 36 Explorer - great and humble Watch - and green is the Rolex colour
We are sitting down and drinking coffee. LoL. I love the impression.
The problem with Rolex is that the rip off continues well after purchase. Service for $800-$1000. Even if it is every 5-7 years. It's too much FOR ME. I trusted someone else to service for much cheaper and ending up ruining the dial with water. Get a new dial you say? I was quoted $1,000 + installation. No thanks. Sold it. Replaced with a Glycine 36 Combat Sub for $379. Don't care about prestige of the brand. Rolex makes great watches but FOR ME I can't justify the cost and the service pricing.
Got a 36mm pink OP two weeks after they were released for my wife from an AD - no purchase history with this particular AD! She wore it everyday for over a year, never cleaned it or polished it. Used it as a Rolex should be used, it was fairly scratched up and was still able to sell it to a dealer straight away for €13k who in turn sold it for €16k within a week!Absolute madness! Fingers crossed the market trend continues and the actual enthusiast get the watches they actually want 🤞🏼 Great video as always - for a second I thought I was watching a Bark&Jack video 😂

Michael, I know you love the club campus. Just wondering if it ever bothers you that it has this sports watch look with a dress watch movement? For me it gives the impression it can take a beating, with its form and 100m water resistance, but it’s really got a movement that’s quite susceptible to shock and magnetism. I believe the delicate alpha movement is really more suited to dress watch forms like the Tetra you’ve mentioned on here before, because it seems more fitting rather than being “a sheep in wolfs clothing”. Just my 2 cents, love the club’s look, I wish Nomos would develop an automatic that was robustly durable to fit it, rather than just making it entry level and sticking in the alpha. I guess going with this video, what Rolex does. Anything sports, even the entry oysters are all sufficiently durable and match its appearance. Aka it can take a knocking. 30m on the Tetra is appropriate so people don’t swim and jump off cliffs with it, it’s pretty easy to damage the Alpha caliber.
The Oyster Perpetual is a nicer looking watch than most other Rolex watches. I think it looks much nicer than a Sub or GMT Master II or a Yachtmaster or anything. A lot of Rolex watches look pretty gaudy. The Oyster Perpetual looks classy.
No way it’s worth $5,800 (or 2X that on the secondary market). MUCH better and more interesting watches available with other brands.

@r2l100 The older Omegas did not have AR on top as well, so there is nothing to be scratched. The new ones have AR on both top and bottom, which in my opinion, is the best implementation I've seen so far as it cuts the reflections a lot more. Breitling only uses AR on the underside of the crystal. It is really good, perhaps the best in the industry for only one layer of AR. Now, as far as I know, Rolex only used double sided coating (as on Omegas) on the new Cellini. The new Explorer is using AR only on the underside, but it is pretty bad to be honest, at least when comparing with the AR from other brands.

And it's ugly
OP is their entry rugged sports watch in my opinion, datejust - whilst not a ‘dress’ watch is their entry flash / office watch. Whilst you can wear it playing sport, it’s meant for a suit. The OP can be worn with a suit but it’s meant to be worn sailing, climbing mountains etc.

I wear a 34mm on a medium size wrist and it’s my perfect daily beater.

Op can be worn from anything to swimming, hiking, a casual day out, or a dressy occasion. A very do it all watch
Green not possible to get at an AD without a long waiting list and significant recent purchase history
I have read 904 steel actually scratches more easily.
OP36 with stella dials going to be way more collectible compared to OP41.

@@chaosad4508 The 41 was Rolex’s internal code for larger OP. There were more OP41 made than OP36 and OP34 combined together, with ratio 4:1. Look at the finishing of OP41. The hour marks are squarish, the crown on the dial is small. It required much less labor to make it. During lockdowns keeping less people at the factory was crucial. I own both, OP41 and OP36 with stella dials. When I walk into the AD wearing those watches: OP41 - it’s a nice watch! OP36 - where did you get that watch? Both watches are great. Both going to be extremely collectible. It’s just OP36 is slightly better proportioned, has the beveled hour marks, which makes them more sparkling, and better fitted crown.

debating with myself about getting one, green is my favorite, only thing in my position it would have to be secondery market and prices seem still unreasonable high, around £10k for 36mm is waaaay too much. Didn't know about 4:1 ratio etc.. thanks for the answer.

@@chaosad4508 very soon Rolex going to release stella Daydate. I would safe for those.Rolex plans to make all of their 36mm watches exclusive. Smaller watches are coming back in fashion. While everyone is chasing larger watches, I would add couple smaller ones into my collection. My holy grail watch is 36mm Daydate with Rainbow Baguette Diamond Dial Watch. It’s a far out of my price range. I am hoping someday I’ll get one.
The OP is worth it at list price... not at gray market price.. I would love trade my 114060 sub for the 36mm but it's impossible to get one at AD.... and they are not worth gray market prices.
My Explorer 124270 now comes with AR and makes a huge difference. Rolex should now include AR on all models.

It’s a great watch. I waited 6 months from my AD and got it for $6100. It’s kind of a perfect 1 watch do it all. Love it!
You're insane, OP and sub no date are the real and most beautiful watches.
I have the 41 mm green OP. It looks great, but I also have an 8.5 inch wrist 😂🦍
12K? No way thats like SBGA413 + Pelagos/SM300 + 1926. There are like unlimited options to get sports watch, dive watch and dress watch for that kind of money.
Micheal you remind me of Hughie from The Boys……no offence intended. Great solo video again.
Most like Rolex as a cool status symbol, like the datejust and daydate but don't get the reason people want the OP. Seems so boring so is it simply because it's a Rolex? Seems to me that you just end up with a fairly stale watch that just so happens to be "a rolex". Why not get the new omega aqua terra 38mm in color. Some would say it's a copy but it's an actual good watch that looks beautiful and that omega seems to care about.
