Rolex Explorer 36 - The Ultimate Travel Watch

Ойын-сауық

For travel, the 100 IQ move is to go grab a GMT Master II. But the 140IQ move is the slap on the Explorer 36.

Wish I had the riches to get a 36 Explorer & use it like a G-Shock. I've tried one on & it's so magical to wear, that size is perfect not to mention how the dial looks. Gotta give it to Rolex, they know how to make a watch

Love it! The perfect GADA watch. A Rolex that ppl don’t know unless they know. I have a 2 tone Date with black diamond dial and a platinum Yacht Master so I have the flashy stuff but for everyday use, it’s the Explorer all day. And I will sell the other 2 before I would ever think about touching the Explorer.

Cool video and I agree with all your points. One thing I like about this watch is that it’s very easy to use as a timer because the minute indices are so prominent it’s very easy for timing things - just need to remember the start. Not many people mention this.

The irony of the GMT is with it being one of the most sought after/flashy watches it's not a great watch to travel with for the reasons you mentioned... UNWANTED ATTENTION!! I have a bluesy for when I want everyone to look at me lol. Great video. Eagerly waiting for "the call" for my Explorer.

How small are your wrists? You make that Explorer 36 look like a 46mm Panerai..... But enjoyed the video, got the 40mm Explorer and love it

Just ordered one. Lately I've felt my EX2 40mm was a little big and I was checking out getting an older EX1 - then I saw this new one. 70 hour reserve? The latest movement? No complications? Fell in love with it, largely thanks to seeing you talk about it! I'm downsizing, and will be traveling, drumming, all that stuff - and I have a feeling that although I'll be down to the new Ex1, my Cartier Tank MC, and my Seiko spring-drive moon phase, I'll be set! (Selling the EX2 to help pay for the new guy.)

I'm an aussie and I've gone all around Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and HK with my Explorer 36 and have loved it. Never gets noticed and always up for a swim in a pool or even in the beaches around Aus. Looks nice enough to wear out at night as well as being under the radar. Just still nervous to bring it over to europe when I head there soon. :/

I fully agree on the Explorer 1 as an ultimate travel watch. Wear mine almost every day. Now I’m looking for another sports Rolex, such as the Explorer 2 or a GMT2, but I have the same small wrist as you (6.5”). Is the Explorer 2 the way to go, or should I look for a GMT2? I like the ‘under-the-radar’ style of the Explorer 2. Thanks in advance.

You could easily go with either. Ex2 is 42mm, try one on, it doesnt wear small but 42 isnt huuuuge. Now the ex36 covers you for most things. The real question is do you want a tool watch or the gussied up submariner for going out?

Really enjoyed watching this Video mate! The Explorer is not only the most under the radar watch but also the most under rated watch within Rolex watch catalog in my opinion. Its classy, refined and perfect for any situation! I have the 40mm and absolutely adore it.

I don’t bring anything expensive when I travel… except for my phone and my wallet, but they stay out of sight in my trouser pockets. Only tissue paper, a day’s worth of pocket money/ credit card, and any extra clothing or an umbrella goes into an external bag. They can take my whole suitcase and I won’t miss anything in it because it’ll be full of well used clothes. Safety first when in unfamiliar territory.

I agree, you gotta do whats comfortable in terms of risk. LA and Barcelona... probably wouldnt recommend doing what I did but... I felt comfortable that the ex36 stays off the radar and it was long sleeve weather...

One issue with travelling Rolex is that you can end up in slightly dodgy areas you're not familiar with, and Rolex-targeted muggings are becoming more common. imo there's no good reason to travel with a Rolex if you're painting a target on your wrist.

That is a sad reality. I guess what wasnt clear in my video is that really, this is the factor that makes the ex36 the only watch for such places and the next option is a casio.

So, it's the best "travel" watch because... it doesn't get anyone's attention??? If that's your criteria, buy a Citizen and be done with it. You don't give a single explanation of how it serves any purpose related to travel. It's $8000 worth of boring. There are loads of watches from brands like Longines, Tudor, Grand Seiko, Omega, Christopher Ward, Mido, Oris, Ball, etc that come with complications that are great for travel, such as GMT, Chronograph, and Moon Phase that are both less money than the Explorer but also much more interesting pieces.

I mean man. Not hating but you do seem not to like watches but to enjoy branding. Which is ok. It’s just that your analysis is shallow and boring. As Rolex is I guess (having said that I own a couple of Rolexes but also Seikos, Omegas, Casios and JLC. I do love Rolex as a watch, but the brand sucks)

@@luissol I have those brands too, with the exception of JLC and the addition of Tudor. I just love durable sports watches. I genuinely think it doesn't get better than Rolex for durable sports watches.
