    This man is a legend. I started doing OMAD beginning of July this year. I cut out sugars and reduced my carbs to between 10-20g a day and in just under 5 months, I've lost 100lbs. Just writing this doesn't seem real but it is and I am forever grateful for this knowledge and the power of fasting.

    @@TimothyBuerki to be honest, the first 6 weeks I didn't exercise at all. Then I started going for walks. It was an hour at first but I really struggled with it in the beginning and then managed to work my way up to almost 2 hours a day (10k steps), between 5 - 6 days a week. That 2 hr walk can be in one go or split into 2, walk in the morning for an hour and then again at lunch for example. Combine that with keto although sometimes you could say I was doing paleo.

    People who don't eat at all ("water fasting") loose less than 20 pounds a month. It's scientifically impossible to loose more 20 pounds a month except by amputating a limb. You are lying. Either you lost less or it took you longer. Probably both.

    Most people only lose 0.5 lbs of actual fat after fasting for 24 hours, which is 15 lbs/month if you never eat at all. 45 lbs is in range for what many people who lose after eating nothing at all for three months (as measured after recovering hydration post-fast). Larger bodies can lose more than that and extremely active people can lose more than than 0.5 lbs of fat per day. The other body type is the extremely fit person with a lot of muscle mass who goes on a fasting binge as a full-time couch potato. You'll lose the lbs, but they won't all be fat. A far more realistic target for most people is 5 lb/s month. That's still 60 lbs in a year, which is a big deal in the big picture. I lost 3 lbs/month for twelve months on a fairly substantial restriction (but I also continued to eat all my favourite fattening foods one day a week).

For the past 7 years I have been low carb and now I do IF and my weight has stabilised, I eat well, without counting calories and I never feel hungry (or hangry! ) I do occasionally eat carbs (Christmas is coming!) but now regard low carb/IF as my normal eating pattern and find it easy to slip back into after holidays and celebrations. Doctors and nutritionists etc have been telling us calories in calories out and demonising Dr Atkins and all the time this information has been there. Since going low carb and IF 16/8 my sweet cravings have virtually all disappeared and trust me I was a sugarholic working from home and living alone so no peer pressure to eat well and snacks and processed food literally got me through my work day and depression once the day ended and I had hours before me alone. I’m a 4’11” woman with sedentary lifestyle so losing weight is always hard as I have to go quite low on calories 1000-1200 and it’s just not sustainable and you reach a plateau very quickly anyway. However since I adapted my eating habits and listened to Dr Fung and the Diet Doctor channel and realised my hormones are literally the brains of how well I do at reaching and maintaining a healthy weight - IT CHANGED EVERYTHING! The low carb nature of my food means I’m generally always satiated and can just get on with life. I don’t know if it’s related but I’m sure I have a clearer more positive mindset now. The greatest joy is also to work around the perimeter of my supermarket only and get my shopping done in half the time. As for snacking - it just looks like toy food and I can’t believe there’s such a huge and growing market for this nonsense ‘food’. The only time I eat high carb and deserts, drink sugary alcohol etc is if I’m out with friends since that’s the only physically and mentally healthy way to consume those foods and there is the benefit of pleasure and enjoyment associated with it - which is the point of life after all! The next day however I’m right back on my 16/8 and healthy foods and it’s never a chore - in fact it brings calm and order into my life to eat like that rather than my previous ravenous and mood driven self when I would actually get major stress trying to decide which take out, desert or sweets to order from my sofa almost every other night. It literally controlled me so I am so glad to be able to have what essentially is freedom from that drug induced state to where I am now. Lighter and happier!!

Intermittent fasting has been a game changer for me, after years of trying to do the conventional diet advice and not succeeding in anything long term. Also, I like the Elmo head peeking out behind later on in the video :).

    Dr Fung, always looking forward to your Sunday videos... nice to see you every time. The mechanism you've throughly explained is very clear and valuable and most of all absolutely true, through personal experience. Nevertheless, the major issue is..... being able to control hunger and cravings ! 🤔 so to be capable of fasting and reducing carbohydrates, in order to keep insulin low throughout most of the day. We desperately need worthy advice on how to CONTROL - SUPPRESS hunger. That is the major issue and the key to success in weight-loss. My sincere greetings to you from Italy 💖🍀🕊️☀️

    Summary: To loose weight , 1. Be in calori deficit. 2. Try to eat these calories in form of fat and protein mainly (keto) which do not spike insulin much and try intermittent fasting.

  • @ms-jl6dl

    @ms-jl6dl

    2 жыл бұрын

    2. is wrong. You can eat "good carbs" (beens-all lentils,dates,sweet potatoes,salads,many vegetables and fruits) without any problems. That's what all longest-living groups all over this planet eat: 85% (healthy) carbs,10% (healthy) protein,5%(healthy) fats. None of the carbs (or fats and proteins)in the modern western culture are healthy,carbs per se are not the problem. "Keto" works by excluding one very (the most) unhealthy group of foods plus many people on it eat less calories also,thus inducing calorie restriction effect known for 60 years for its very high health benefits.

    IF didn’t work for me, but Whole 30 did. In fact, I ate all day, and ate lots and lots of fruit and nuts. I lost 10 lbs in a month and 22 inches! I think some of us have what’s almost like an allergy to sugar, and all of its artificial forms, and we just blow up like a puffer fish when eating it. I’ve deduced that because I have a dad and grandma who were diabetics, maybe being their offspring causes me to be extra sensitive to sugar, and I don’t process it like a normal person would. Something for the scientists to start researching!

    No it does not. He has no idea about our bodies "Calorie Intake". It's always constant. Eat below it-loose weight. All of the people claiming otherwise are lying. They all "snack" and try to hide from themselves how much crap they eat,it's normal human behaviour. There wasn't ever any differences discovered between "low fat" and "low carb" diets on how fast one looses weight,or how healthy one becomes. But low carb diets are easier to follow because of their lower insulin peaks that cause high food cravings. There are people on potato diets but in high health,due to their weight loss and the effects of calorie restriction.

    I'm 4 months in and 19 kilos (40 pounds) down from 106kg to 88kg. Doing Keto, OMAD (weekends 20/4) and 2 hours per week of cardio. Just 3 to go for a normal BMI. Besides the weight loss, some observations: * Before OMAD/Keto I did the 2 hours cardio for half a year and it did nothing. After starting OMAD/KETO my cardio results really started to improve on every level. * My energy level is constant or better. At 16:00 I usually collapsed but now I'm at my best. * I start wearing suspenders. * I have a liver spot on my face and it is disappearing. * 0 days sick and 0 days migraine. Not even headaches * As a frequent rebreather diver, I notice less of no fatigue after heavy decompression dives. This is consistent with some hypotheses but also a new field of research: does fasting decrease the forming of gas bubbles in the bloodstream. Very very interesting.

    IF has done more than just help me lose fat and stay at my goal weight. It's helped me to ditch dieting altogether. My caloric intake decreases and increases naturally depending on my body's needs for the day. I eat a little more after a day of exertion, less on the day after a less intense day. Clean fasting means I barely notice the tiny hunger bubbles. I eat what I want in my eating window, but now my body tends to crave whole foods. I still have dessert 3-5 times a week. Fasting has freed me from restriction, bingeing, tracking, and food obsession. Everything is simpler and less stressful in this area (and not packing snacks and lunches is a bonus -- cheaper and less to think about). I wish I'd had this knowledge 30 years ago.

Many people who "water fasted" have died from heart-attacks after starting eating again,that is critical moment-reintroduction of food. Eat little,easily digested foods for first few days,do not start gorging on food after the succesfull fast.
