Roland SE-02 part 2: Using external effects to enhance sounds

Back with a 2nd look at the Roland Boutique SE-02 after the summer break. Based on the comments and feedback on the last video, I'm going to test the sounds with an external effects pedal, Zoom MS-50G, a guitar pedal with mono in and stereo out, to see what effects can bring to the sounds. I will be playing the sounds dry, add the effects, making it easy to compare between dry and wet sounds.
And yes, the Roland SE-02 is not a straight up Moog Minimoog Model D clone, but a module paying it's tribute to the 70s synth monster, while adding crossmodulation, resonance, sequencer, song structure for the seq and of course, patch memory of 4 banks with 128 patches each, which is really great for live use. So here we go, enjoy!

Yes, I still have it but I haven't used it much during the winter, so maybe time to give it some more love soon again. JU-06A and Jupiter Xm have taken more of my attention lately!

@@xntricity6446 Btw, how do you find the subsequent 37? And what kinds of sounds are you using it for?

@@patsonmusic The subsequent 37 is a fantastic mono synth, I have it for almost 2 years and any review you will read about this synth will be very favourable. It can produce any lead sound from very mellow Moog to hard distorted modern sound. The bass line capability is excellent too and one of the best out there. The Arp section is pretty excellent , I don't use the sequencer as I'm mainly daw based. I will use the Roland SE-02 and Sub37 so I can either do Lead on one and bass on the other and alternate between them. They are 50% cheaper to buy used these days when they pop up for sale.

@@xntricity6446 I've seen a couple of videos, but never played one myself. Thanks for sharing your experiences with it! Regarding the SE-02 one of the key reasons for me to get it was the patch banks (aside from the sound of the synth). I also have a Behringer Pro-1 and Poly-D, and they are also sounding great. But since they lack patch memory for obvious reasons, it makes it really hard to use them in a live environment , if you want to dial in new sounds in between songs. Here the SE-02 shines, it is fairly easy to change sounds and do some minor tweaking if needed.

@@markgiddings8382 Thanks for your suggestion. I've thought of that occasionally. The thing is, I try to keep the setup simple so I use my phone connected to a Roland Go:Mixer Pro and usually record in one take, without editing. Using another angle would mean I need to rethink the gear or get longer usb cables. And using 2 cameras could be an option two but then I have to edit on my laptop. So keeping it simple makes it easier for me to do videos or just play and see if something useful comes out of it. Back to this video: I use pretty simple modulations to the patch sounds I play here. Alternating cutoff and playing with the filter contour. And sometimes adjusting the internal delay effect. With the Zoom pedal I jump between delays, stereo chorus, reverbs.
