I got six shooters new last year and picked up some older Ivanko revolvers used on good deals over last 3 months . The revolvers that are probably 10-20 yrs years old are cast better with very few imperfections and have more rounded edges. 6 holes are symetreic and more functional for exersize but 7 look better. Great review Brandon.

Great vid. I have the 6 shooters and gotta say every point you mentioned was spot on with my experience. Expect for my 45's the color was completely off compared to the the rest. The color was more like a light grey with yellowish shade. It was very noticeable next to a 35 or 25. I contacted Rogue and although it wasn't a performance or functional issue they did exchange them for new 45's. Now all of the plates are closer in color and yes, the finish could be better but overall I'm happy.

Great review Brandon. I owned the Ivanko Revolvers, and the quality was very similar to these as far as casting and paint quality. I would definitely go Rogue over Ivanko now if buying a revolver style plate due to the massive price difference. I'm not a huge fan of Rep's revolver style, but that's just a personal preference.

I was thinking of these, but since I live in Canada, the shipping prices these out of my budget. I was in a local fitness store and I liked the York G2s for a couple reasons. Firstly, I like that all the plates look similar and secondly, the metal version of the weights have similar accuracy as the Rogue Six Shooters. The only thing holding me back is, I read on a bodybuilding.com forum that the two grip holes make the plate a little lopsided since the weight isn't consistent across the plate. What are your thoughts?

I ended up getting the machined plates for one of the same reason you got 6 shooters. It's all preference and you can't go wrong with either plate in my opinion. With the tolerance of the machined plates being up to 2% over the stated weight, I figured it could never hurt to have a little extra on the bar. At least two of my 45 plates weigh 45.8. I weighed the first 5, but one was lost in shipping and came late. I later got 4 more and never weighed those. The lowest I weighed was 45.2.

You can't see the small cast marks in your videos. I wouldn't have guessed without the update. Good to know they are that accurate. Re: accuracy, both have a 2% range. The six-shooters can be a full percent off in EITHER direction, giving a total of 2% range of stated weight. The machined plates at +2% but -0 (guaranteed not to be light) so they still have a 2% range. I still like the 1%+/- better, because they should on average weigh 45, whereas a +2%/-0% means they should average +1%. I just snagged a pair 45s because muh gainzzz and I liked the 1% tolerance.

Truth be told if it's your first time weight lifting I wouldn't worry quite yet about getting 45lb plates as it will take you some time to get there. For your first few times you will really only use the bar with no weight. What routine and split will you be using?

@@deadlyrng 45s will be useful though. In pretty much every mayor lift you will start out with at least a 45 per side or will build up to a 45 rather quickly. I dont know your exact strength levels, but getting 4x45 2x25 2x10 2x5 2x2,5 Seems like a good staring point to me. Get some cheap plates, who cares if there is even a pound more or less on the bar?

I found the same thing in regards to the finish with regular machined plates but besides that I love em. I was gonna go with the 6 shooter plates but when I went to check out (black November sale) the hundo pricing for the 6 shooters wasn't available. But I'm still extremely happy with the plates. I'll have to weigh all mine and average them out and I can get you a comparison for accuracy. I got 8 pairs of 45s and 2 pairs of everything else so I'll have a slightly bigger sample size on the smaller plates.

My brother has a larger import business, with a lot of products coming from China. I'll tell you something about stuff that comes from the same factory in China. Now, keep in mind, this is not any direct statement on plates since I don't have direct knowledge on these specific companies or the specific factories in relation to plates, but the concepts hold true across many industries there. Typically, the factories will have different categories of quality. Certain customers will purchase the highest quality off the production line, and then those in turn become the more expensive products. Other companies will purchase the lower quality items off that same production line, but of course then you gave the lower quality items. So things that are within a certain spec may qualify as top end for the factory, and they sell it at a premium. They also sell the rejects, or things that are not within a certain spec, to other companies for lower prices. It can be near irrelevant to say that two different companies are using the same product from the same factory. A similar thing occurs in the pharmaceutical world in which I work. There are a few different suppliers of many common raw ingredient powders. The Rolls Royce of these companies sells for the highest price by far. But, they have the purest powders that then end in drug products. They also further conduct their own testing. The same laboratory that provides this supplier with a certain ingredient also supplies the other distributors with the same powder, but that may have slightly more impurities or a larger particle size. Those other distributors also do less of their own analytical testing, if any. The raw ingredients will be cheaper, but also more impure. This increases chances of a drug recall. This is all to say that if something is lie expensive at once company than another, yet they originate from the same source, at least part of the reason it's due to the quality off the production line. (Of course there's other factors like buying power, marketing, overhead, etc)

It's true that they don't make the Ivankos quite as good as they used to. I bought a set of OM Ivankos on dumbbell buddy just over a year ago. Made in china stickers and plenty of epoxy filler on the non milled side of the plates. 7 45s were within 4 ounces. One 45 was 13 ounces underweight according to my postal scale. Still within their stated 2% tolerance but a bit annoying since they were NOT cheap. On the plus side the diameter on all 45's is perfect and all holes are snug. (or were). So still very good but Rogue's version are likely more consistently accurate, and CHEAPER. The deep dish Troys, I heard were the best bang for your buck. Pretty accurate and cheaper than rogue.

Brandon Campbell Diamond ok. Just as a preface, I’m not trying to say that you’re _wasting_ your money (or even that I wouldn’t buy fancy plates if given infinite money). All I’m trying to say is that it’s a relatively simple job to where the nice to haves are really very optional. It’s hard to see a justification for twice the expense, given a reasonably priced plate (fitnessgear, some of rogue’s stuff, etc) does the job about as well as an expensive one. You’re not wrong about the accuracy, but *if* you weigh a plate *and* it’s off then it’s not difficult to fix it. I agree about fit on the bar. I’ve used Eleiko plates and that’s the first thing I noticed that was really nice about them, but as a power lifter without infinite expendable income I can’t justify 2 times the price for a few percent extra utility. I’m far from being a 275lb lifter, so even if I broke the WR deadlift in my weight class, I’m not going to need super thin plates. I don’t know what consistency means, and I didn’t know that longevity was a thing for plates. As long as they weigh the right amount and have a hole in the middle, they can last a really, _really_ long time

Lol I wanna see if there was maybe one or two plates over the stated weight and another set that are below the stated weight, and just averages out to 2%? 🤣 Ivankos advertise their change plates to be within 2%. The smaller change plates are harder to accurize. 2% of 45lb is almost a whole pound. While the smaller ones are smaller decimals O.o The only change plates that has those holes are Ivankos OUEZ plates where the 10lb and 5lb have those holes. Buut then, they're black and rubber so I guess they don't REALLY match lol Also I was multi-tasking.. Did you ever mention in the video of the hole tolerances? The slop from cheap plates make them wiggle on the bar like crazy. Ivanko/York plates are known to have super tight tolerances which makes them quieter when setting the bar down and keeps the plates tight on the bar with less work for the collars to do their job. If that makes sense. Cool plates though, I'd buy them over the Ivankos. Lol helluvalot cheaper

I imagine the hole tolerance is similar, if not the same, to the machined plates. So if you bought a new car you’d be fine if things were different colors or it had dings in it already?

@@BasementBrandon a car is different. its all one piece. I understand what you are saying. if you are paying for a product you want consistancy. its just that the color of the plates will not affect its use. with that being said... it is nice to have the set matching.

I don't like this Plates at all. So if anyone wants to try to change my mind, you're welcome to send some to me.

You sit infront of the camera too much. Show something in the background as you talk. Show us you sliding the plates on the bar
