ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY (2016) MOVIE REACTION - BLEW ME AWAY! - FIRST TIME WATCHING - REVIEW
Ойын-сауық
Welcome to our first-time watching as we react to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). Happy May the 4th to all! Today we get to go back to a galaxy far, far away and experience a thrilling tale of rebel heroes, daring missions, and all the bravery and sacrifice it took to have a chance in defeating the Empire.
Directed by Gareth Edwards, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (2016) follows a group of unlikely heroes who band together to steal the plans for the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction. We already know how things go down thanks to "A New Hope" but this film recontextualizes and allows us to appreciate the bravery and sacrifice these rebels showcased in order to give the good guys a shot at destroying the iconic Death Star.
This is an untold story that truly enriches the other films and ties everything together neatly. The characters in this film are amazing as well. From the fearless Jyn Erso played wonderfully by Felicity Jones to Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) these characters feel fearless and brave despite the odds and remind us that we should all stand for what is right. The return of the enigmatic Darth Vader is also a plus! He was absolutely ruthless in this!
We hope that you enjoy our reactions, commentary and review as we discuss the different elements that made this film so enjoyable. From the amazing cinematography by Greig Fraser to the fantastic score by Michael Giacchino there's lots to talk about so sit back, relax and let's dive right into a galaxy far, far away.

Truth about location shooting ..so sick of all the recent modern star wars productions that shoot on the same size 'volume' where even in 'outdoor' environs look all exactly the same.. P.s. Solo is worth watching imo, it didn't perform in theaters more cause people were pissed about Last Jedi, but it's way more fun than any of the sequel trilogy, that's for sure..

I'm German, 62 years old and a fan of Star Wars from 1977. Rogue One takes you back to the time when it all began. No useless gimmickry with CGI and all those technical gadgets, just a straightforward, straightforward plot. No hero, will still somehow survive story, but the sacrifice of everyone for an absolutely understandable reason. The film is exceptional, exceptionally good.

Donnie yen is the nicest guy ever. I'm Australian and a friend of mine living in London saw him at a restaurant and mentioned I was a major fan, only asking for an autograph. Instead he sent me a birthday video.
That Vader hallway scene was iconic in two ways. One being, that up until this moment. The sheer ferocity of Darth Vader was only whispered about. How ferocious he was in battle. But those fifteen minutes did everything we wanted. He took the Rebels apart. And the look of terror in their eyes said it all. This is Darth Vader. Dark Lord of the Sith.
Rogue One brings all the movies together. When the Rebel leader said many lives were sacrificed for those plans. This was the movie that was needed. 😢😍

@@Ryan_Christopher I don't think it's fair to say that one clause in the opening of Episode IV was the basis for Rogue One. Episode IV revolves almost entirely around these plans that have been stolen. The Empire knows they're missing and are in hot pursuit when the film opens. Even without the opening crawl, the story of how this chase started, and where these plans came from, is the logical preceding chapter of the story.
This feels like a perfect time to request that you guys check out the Andor show! I've been a Star Wars fan since seeing the first one in theaters as a kid. Rogue One is my favorite. Showing the grit, the sacrifice, the cost of fighting this kind of fight is what makes it so special, along with the fantastic, multi-faceted artistry that went into its making, of course. The raw, seething power and brutality of Vader, the willingness of the rebels to get their hands dirty and do bad things in the name of a greater goal...it was just so well done. Great film for Star Wars day!! May the 4th be with you. Beware the revenge of the 5th.

I saw this film two weeks after Carrie Fisher passed away. When I saw her at the end of the film, I lost it. She was my childhood crush, after Shirley Temple, and stayed with me the longest. I bawled when she turned around. I know it was a different actress with CGI, but my immediate reaction was painful yet happy tears. She will always be MY princess.

You can imagine how hype it was to see Darth Vader again in its full menacing glory. Screams of terror and excitement. I grew up with Star Wars and it will always have a special place in my heart even if Disney doesn't know when to stop.
To date Rogue One and Andor are undeniably the most mature and best written entries of the filmic canonic SW franchise.

Oddly enough, Rogue One *is a Disney film*. There are several stories (and maybe a ton of unpublished reasons) why this film (and other Diseny era productions) did/do better than the "bigger" (so to speak) films Disney oversaw/tried to influence. One of those stories, if I recall correctly, involved the director/production crew conditioned their participation if they were given complete creative freedom over the project (while in the Sequel Trilogy Disney exerted almost complete creative control over every single step of the process).
@mattrismatt

@benjaminroe311ify
7 күн бұрын
That's fair... Although I still like the sequels they are my least favorite of the trilogies though.
This film built up the lore and the original trilogy. It didn't try to destroy characters to make the new characters look better. "Many Bothans died to bring us this information..." was actually just cover for what happened. But lots of people died to bring the information. So many died to get the information, that when the attack on the Death Star came from Yavin 4, there wasn't a fleet left at the base. It doesn't subtract from the heroism of the Yavin 4 pilots that they were part of a larger rebellion. It adds to the history of sacrifice in face of overwhelming power that was required to challenge the Galactic Empire.
@Daniel-Strain
26 күн бұрын
Many Bothans died WAY after this and episode 4. They had nothing to do with this. That was a line from Return of the Jedi about the SECOND death star. And the Bothans did not deliver any plans. They brought information to the Rebels that a second death star was being built, where it was (Endor), and that the Emperor was going to be there. - all information the Emperor purposely let them have. Nothing in Rogue One has anything to do with Bothans or that line.
I'm an old school Star Wars fan, and I... LOVED this movie! I fell in love with every single character! It was like a piece of my heart died every time we lost one of them! Seeing Darth Vader at the very end made me feel like a kid again! See the CGI Princess Leia warmed my heart since I saw this movie in theaters shortly after Carrie Fisher passed away. I was crying so hard from every emotion I was feeling once the lights came on & the credits were rolling, my husband had to walk me to the car because I could barely see from all the tears. I was also shouting while crying out loud in the parking lot, "They never even kissed!!!", over Stardust and her boo. Now that's a movie! They didn't have to make it, but they did, and we are all better for it! ❤
This is my favorite SW films because of the different take they show on what a “rebellion” means. You typically think of good guys doing good things. But in reality it’s good meaning ppl having to struggle with neutral/neg decisions in order to meet their ultimate goal. It’s moral sacrifice that movies don’t always show.
How Visceral was the film and specially that Vader scene near the end.. I love how it connects A New Hope directly next to its timeline.

I wish people could go back and experience what it was like in ‘77, it’s really hard to describe just how huge Star Wars was then. It was everywhere. My favorite theater experience was Empire, we were so primed for it, the excitement was so thick in the air you could feel it. And of course we all walked out with “WHAAAAATTT?!?!?!?” His what? NOOOOOOOOOOO. Then realized we had to wait 3 years to find out what was next. Luckily we had India Jones, and many others, to pass the time with in between them. And, of course, many toys to play with. ;-) When Episode I came out in ‘99 I was 30, my eldest was 4 or so, I took him to see it but he was a little too young to grasp it. I thoroughly enjoyed it though, you just have to watch it as a 7 year old again.

@@c1ph3rpunk It sounds wonderful. Almost makes me wish I’d grown up in the 70s and 80s.
Seeing this in the theater days after Carrie Fisher died is a film experience I'll carry forever. One of my favorite films.
There was so many emotions in this movie. The first time the heroes won but you felt the massive loss at the same time. That hallway sene with Vader too… Iconic!! This film came out 11 days before Carrie Fisher passed away, I saw the movie just after she died and seeing Leia in cgi after her passing with the emotions of the film…. Not many dry eyes left In that cinema after.
Love "Rogue One" so much! You should watch "Andor" next, it´s a great "prequel" to this.
This film is a pure love letter to and the closest thing anyone has ever come, including George Lucas, to the original Star Wars films. It's an immediate classic❤

It truly felt like the perfect combination of the classics and something new and fresh. Absolutely loved it!
at both Jedha and Scariff, Tarkin said "single reactor ignition", basically let me explain, it operates in a series of sequential ignitions (not unlike a pulsejet) that give a convenient metric for how powerful a given shot is, simply by counting the number of ignitions used to charge the superlaser power cells. It's not a "single reactor" ignition, it's a single "reactor ignition". this is why it looked like a nuke instead of just completely destroying a planet.
You should definitely watch Andor after this, such a great show, the best one for me in the Star Wars universe
this is hands down the best recent addition to the Star Wars Universe
we saw this when it came out at theaters. when the movie was over and we were leaving, my son said, "Finally they put the war back into Star Wars!"
If Krennick had just employed surveillance overwatch as he was executing his raid on the farm, we wouldn’t have a movie. Mom and Jynn would have been visible on thermal scanners to any overhead drone.
Star Wars fan since 83. Rogue One is my favorite Star Wars movie overall. Great reaction!
Whenever I finish watching this, I always have to watch the first few minutes of 'Star Wars' just for closure 😂 Wonderful watchalong with you two, thanks.

@@michaelhoward142 LALALALALA not listening... it's Star Wars 😂 Me too. I remember it was a hot summer. A really humid one at that. I watch some scenes and it's pavlovian, I swear I can smell the slight rancid butter in the air of that cinema... even that tin-like air conditioning, lol.
The door wasnt actually stuck. Vader was actually holding the door thats why when he stabbed the rebel he let the door go that's why it opened up so fast

Though the door opened just enough for the 'plans' disk to be given to another soldier. Surely, Vader did mean for that to happen.

@mattrismatt if you pay attention after vaderstabbed the rebel he actually intended to stab both the rebel who handed the plans over and the other rebel he took it out of the hand before vader killed him. That's why we see vaders lightsaber just go through the door all the way. He was trying to kill the both rebels at the same time
@mattrismatt
21 күн бұрын
@@titanuscreature4485 Vader's intent to kill all of those rebels isn't in question. My point is, he wasn't able to acquire/destroy the plans disk because the door opened enough to be handed over. Do you think leaving the door ajar was also Vader's intent?
Two fun facts: Red Five is the X-Wing pilot who crashes into the shield(his place is eventually taken by Luke in "New Hope"). Vader is holding the door shut with the Force when he comes for the rebels. The hallway sequence was one of the greatest moments of all time. Every other time, we've seen Vader fight against people who(overall)could at least hold their own, Jedi and Force adherents. This is the first time we see him through the eyes of the rank and file of the Rebellion and he is terrifying.

The hallway scene showed Vaders incompetence
this film and the entirety of Andor are just something else. so so so so good. got me giggling and kicking my feet seeing this notification pop up
Reason why they couldn't open the door when Vadar was attacking was that Vadar had stopped the door from opening with the force before he entered the ship. They had no chance..

The guy is just multitasking with such ease. Absolutely love how they've shown us just how powerful he is. That poor rebel that got slammed against the roof had it rough though 😓

This is what SW should have evolved into. Everything feels right, sounds right, looks right. You gotta watch Andor now, and close the circle. May the Fourth be with you ❤

I cried in theatres at the ending showing Princess Leia. Great movie.
I also made my sister and brother in law watch this for the first time on May the 4th this year, so it was awesome to see y'alI react to IT. I love it
For me, this is one of the best SW films ever. The whole film is incredible, and the last 15 minutes a brutal rollercoaster (Vader OMG).
All about sacrifice. It's the price we pay to overcome evil. A price most aren't willing to pay. Best Star Wars ever.💪

The way they showcased the weight of every loss on the team. 👌 What a phenomenal film! And then you get that ending on top of it.
And that iconic Vader scene... chills man, chills.
Wanna know something terrifying? The stuck door in the hallway opened immediately after Vader stabbed the rebel there. That means he was using the Force to *HOLD IT SHUT* during that sequence so they couldn't escape him.
Have you guys seen IP Man? If not, that world is worth watching. Donnie Yen is the man.
Happy Star Wars Day, Media Knights, and May the Force Be With You! Rogue One is top-tier Star Wars and is personally in my top 3. What I mostly love about this film is Greig Fraser's cinematography and the visuals! There are so many inspiring shots throughout the film.

The best modern Star Wars movie, period
Behold, the only Star Wars prequel people actually LIKED.
This movie is like Star Wars’ Saving Private Ryan. It’s a legitimate war-time/espionage film set in the Star Wars universe. It’s the best movie in the entire franchise.
I know its silly but before and when this movie came out i was actually playing a pilot/reprogrammed assassin droid whos late master was a Jedi in a Star Wars tabletop. The ship we traveled in was mine and i had so many jokes that about if things got bad just cut my head off and reattach me to something else cuz ill be good or mock threaten them with opening the airlocks cuz id be fine. Then i borrowed a few from K2-SO. His end really hit me hard. And then there was the entire crew of Rogue One just kicking ass and being picked off one by one. Especially Bohdi the pilot. He found his courage and strength thru Galen to rise against the injustice he saw and even though he was still terrified, he stuck to what needed to be done. But all of them are just amazing, with each ones death breaking your heart. The best of what Disneys brought to star wars along with Gareth Edwards series Andor, which i would seriously recommend. Star Wars thats just well written and shows the cost of fighting the tyranny of The Empire. The Force will be with you, Always Media Knights.
I saw this in the theater. I stupidly thought there would be a happy ending and all of them would survive. When it clicked that this was a suicide mission and they were all going to die, I sobbed in the theater. Sobbed. I can watch bits of it now but I can’t bring myself to watch the whole thing.
