Rogue Iron Game - Ep. 8 / Ruck - Individual Event 3 - 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games

Спорт

Complete coverage of the third individual Men's and Women's event from the 2019 Reebok CrossFit Games in Madison, Wisconsin. The RUCK event challenges competitors to complete a 6,000-m run carrying a ruck with escalating weight, starting at 20LB up to 30LB, 40 LB, and 50 LB (same for both men and women). The video starts with a Rogue Iron Game preview of the event, including chats with GORUCK owner Jason McCarthy, rising competitor James Newbury, and former Fittest Woman on Earth Samantha Briggs.
During the Ruck event, Newbury continues to shine, Lukas Hogberg breaks out, and Tia Toomey gets a major challenge from Canadian Emily Rolfe.

I hear the guys talking about never heard of something like this before about adding weight to the ruck but I recommend to them to take a look at the Best Ranger Competition in 2013 where the ruck was 13 plus miles and there was equipment to pick up during the course as you go. Yes there is an event that has done this type of rucking. I would say Best Ranger competition is way more demanding than this one because the guys are carrying a 60-70 pound ruck then add picking up sand bags, MRE boxes, ammo cans full of sand etc... either way I’m impress to see this event at the Crossfit games. Way to go!!

Sorry, a little bit late on this comment (Oct 10, 2019). Love this workout, but afraid some of my esteemed colleagues may be right. Athletes probably ran somewhat less than 1500m per loop. Hogberg looked great and crushed it. Did a rough conversion of his spits to min/ mile. He hit 5:50@ 20#, 5:55@ 30#, 6:15@ 40# and finally 6:20@ 50#. That's booking with that much weight on your back! Possible, but not probable. I am a life long competitive runner and it didn't look like 6 min per mile pace to me. Yes, I absolutely may be wrong and NO, I am most certainly not taking anything away from these athletes. And it really doesn't matter anyway. What was most impressive about Hogberg was his consistency (steady pace) throughout- only a 30 second drop from 20# to 50#! I kinda tried this workout at home and it's deceptively difficult and I slowed down much more w/ 50#. Well, I am probably overthinking this. I love Crossfit!

Was looking for this comment. I expect this to be closer to 1300m if I were to take a guess. Even when the camera is moving with them, it looks like a jog. Not a 6 minute mile pace. Maybe a 7:30 mile pace with that last 100m cut off. But it doesn't look right. Reminds me of how they embellish NBA players' heights.

Anyone know how long the course actually was? Hardly felt like 6k, Lukas Högberg would have had to be doing a ~3:39/km pace for first 1500m to get a 5:28. And 4min/km pace overallt for 24min. Doesn’t look like it. Its impressive enough on its own, feels unneccessary to embelish.

The big difference for the military is that they start with heavier rucks and have to carry a weapon (an M16 weighs a bit over 8lbs). That creates an imbalance of load, even if you switch which hand holds the weapon every so often. Having weight in your hand also makes it harder to swing your arms.
