George Daniels had an exhibition of his watches in Sotherby's (exceptional quality). I met him there and asked him if he made his own hairsprings , of course, he replied and I inferred it must take a lot of experimenting to get them right to which he nodded. He asked me if I made my own watches and said it was clocks which brought the conversation to an end. Not the most amiable character but someone with amazing skills.
awesome video, I love how respectful and dedicated the watchmaker is that talks us through the watch.
Your passion is infectious ,nice that you never mentioned money thanks for sharing
Fantastic watch, so beautifully made, I really enjoyed this video, thank you. George Daniels’s patent on the Co-axial escapement lapsed a long time ago and Roger is on the record multiple times stating that anyone is free to use the escapement if they can produce it.

@@animarku570 if you Google the 4 words coaxial escapement public domain you’ll find it. If you want to hear Roger say it himself, there is also a Scottish Watches channel Podcast interviewing Roger where he explicitly states that anyone who can build the escapement may do so as the patent is long expired.

@@animarku570 I just found time to locate a proper reference for you. Check out the Scottish Watches Podcast, episode #198, from the 24:40 mark onwards. Roger explicitly states that the escapement is available to anyone who can produce it.

@@mercuriall2810 thank you very much, appreciated 🙏
I have learnt a lot in this video. Thank you.
That was a great video of an amazing watch.
Really enjoyed this video, thank you
More than interesting, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Love this. Thank you. One question you didn't answer in the video is: "Why did you have this particular watch in your workshop?" Was it loaned to you for the video? Just curious. Thanks again. 🇬🇧⌚👊
they look great tho
I dont make watches Crafty, not THAT crafty But if I were to make a watch I think id go with the Daniels Method👍👌

Yes. This is true! He does outsource it now but this is an earlier watch that he admitted to engraving himself. But to scale, you must outsource.
If I even won the euro millions, my very first watch purchase would be a Roger Smith.
wrong. daniels and roger don't engrave the watches. The used to use Charles Scarr. Please get facts straight!
