Roger W. Smith OBE On Working With George Daniels On The Anniversary Series
It is a great honour for Phillips Watches to offer during The New York Watch Auction: SIX, a spectacular and historically important George Daniels Anniversary platinum wristwatch, with the extraordinary movement number of “00”. To celebrate this special occasion, we asked Roger W. Smith OBE to speak to us about the origins of the George Daniels Anniversary and explain the significance of this platinum piece. The Daniels Anniversary model commemorates the 35th anniversary of his invention of the co-axial escapement. Daniels turned to his one and only protégé, Roger W. Smith to create an all-new British calibre produced by Roger Smith with the casing, dial, and finishing work produced to Daniels’ style and standards. Phillips wishes to extend special thanks to Alistair Audsley, CEO Alliance of British Watch & Clock Makers, for filming the present interview and for providing never-before-seen, archival footage from the late 1990s of Dr George Daniels and Roger W Smith OBE discussing the Anniversary project.

I treated myself to a 2022 Seamaster. It's nice to know it contains the legacy of George Daniels the English watchmaker. It's great that Roger Smith carries on his legacy

It was only near the very end of this video that I spotted the Mamod steam engine in the window corner. Somehow it seems appropriate that he has one. I've had mine for years but sadly it didn't help me become a watch-making genius like these 2 extraordinary men.
