Roger Miller was an unparieled genius. A brilliant lyricist, accomplished composer, top notch guitarist, matchless scat singer & extremely talented vocalist. He was the most naturally spontaneous wit in Country music. He is terribly missed.

I remember listening to Roger Miller when I was a teen...loved him then....still do. Took my grand kids to his museum in his home town in Erick, OK. a few years ago. Here's a quote from him that I think is good, but doesn't seem to apply to him! "The human mind is a wonderful thing, it starts working from before you're born and doesn't stop till you sit down to write a song" Roger Miller

Song highlight: Engine # 9 @ 6:19. Sounds great despite the "laryngitic" voice. Roger is a revelation.

Hard to believe Roger Millet was only 30 years old at the time of this 1966 TV show. He had already accomplished so much at that young age. It really was unfair to Charlie Louvin and poor scheduling to have him on the show the same day as Roger. Ira had only died a year or so before this appearance and I’m sure Charlie was still adjusting to life as a soloist without his older and dominating brother even though they had split up professionally several years earlier. His stardom and music were already declining by this time in the sixties, which was pretty obvious from the way Ralph Emery was treating him, and of course he was completely second fiddle in the shadow of Roger Miller. I thought it was rather awkward in that regard in this segment in particular when Ralph asked Charlie to sing Roger’s song. I’m sure that was the last thing he wanted as he rather meekly agreed to put it at the end of the medley of his own music he had already planned to sing. Ouch.🧨
