    Thanks a lot for uploading this one. One of the great comebacks of Roger. If I am not wrong Federer came back and won from 0-2 sets down on 10 occasions so far which is more than the numbers of Nadal and Djokovic combined. But usually people does not recognize this aspect of Roger's game.

    Ketan Kunkalikar That’s “modern” tennis for ya! If the courts all stayed the same speed since the mid-2000s, Roger would likely have almost double the amount of Slams.

    Exactly! The biggest misconception that non-Federer fans have is that he can’t fight, that he can’t comeback, that he chokes. It’s not true by *any* stretch of the imagination...EXCEPT theirs!!!

    This match always reminds me of when Tiger Woods would talk about winning with his "C" game...cuz Roger was playing like kee-rap! Rewatching this match just highlighted for me why 3 guys have won 56 of the last 64 Slams. No guts, no glory. It's like Millman and Sandgren at the AO this year. Or Simon not being able to beat Djokovic in a match where Djokovic had 100 UEs in 5 sets. When push comes to shove - these "journeyman" players just are not good enough to take down the Big 3.

    I think it’s because Falla used up most of his stamina and energy in order to win the first two sets(happens a lot when lower ranked players try to challenge the top players, they need to surpass their limit to get a shot). So by that time his physical state is already struggling yet his mental strength is on fire as he see a chance to upset federer. After he lost his last chance on the 4th set his mental state just fell apart and his body is just too tired to handle the game plus Fed is finally awake. He also tried very hard to at least hold a serve on the 5th but he’s completely burnout

  • @theaviator1152

    @theaviator1152

    Alexander Kings 2007 was simply the last year Federer won 3 Slams in one year. To imply that Federer was not prime quality in 2008, 2009 and 2010 simply because he didn’t win as many Slams is ignorant. Federer’s only hindrance in 2008 was mono and yet he still produced the greatest match (and one of the greatest comebacks) of all time. Federer had at least a dozen masterclass performances in 2009. And even up until today Federer continues to make insane runs at the year-end finals. He destroyed Murray, Nadal and Djokovic in 2010 and 2011 and has continuously made the semifinals since. I have said this in other videos. I personally don’t think that Federer’s prime started until 2005. His game was not yet as developed in 2004. His backhand (especially on clay) was still not the best of the one-handers out there. If he was prime in 2004, then he would not have lost to Guga at the French. In 2005 his forehand was revamped, his backhand improved immensely, he truly established that he was the best on grass and hard court with the best Wimbledon and US Open title runs I have ever seen, his footwork improved drastically; his game was just far more complete in 2005 than in 2004. And I used to think Federer’s prime ended during the summer of 2009, maybe it still did. But it at least didn’t just completely disappear. I would say it slowly faded away over three years up until after Wimbledon 2012. He obviously had many prime-level matches; that’s why he is regarded as an impressive player. I mean, I would almost say his clay game was better after his prime than during it. 2011, 2015, and 2019 were very very good years for Federer at RG. Anyway, yeah. Federer’s prime for me is around FO 2005-WTF 2010.

    Fed was lucky to be born in an era were he could vulture weak era mugs during his early days. He is on par with Murray and they both would have even slams if they were up against peak rafa and nole who, let's be honest, both utterly own Federer, mentally and tennis wise. Not as attractive to watch as Fed, but better tennis players for sure.
