Rodney Mullen on the BBC
Спорт
Im not sure what the show was...Kids one in the morning on the beeb i think. They Got Mullen on a crusty road doing his routine. He teaches a man in full pads to do a rail to wheels drop down..its epic...well it quite interesting...have a watch 1989 i think.

That reporter was so stoked when he almost landed that basic trick. That's skateboarding man. Love it.

What i would give to be able to go back n witness greatness like this. THAT right there, rodney mullen, is something the world needed. N there will never be another like him. Truly amazing. Its one of those things that cant be debated!

one of the few mullen videos i've yet to see. i read your comment before watching and i thought "he messed up a trick? that doesn't sound right", sure enough he doesn't miss a thing, that beefy rail flip could've been sketchy too. i'm not all that religious if at all but i'm pretty sure you can see god in those impossibles

Wonder if he left reporting for the BBC to fulfil his skateboarding career 🤔😂

I was afraid that the reporter would bail 😅 Took a while for me to be able to stand in primo and have the courage to nudge the board back on wheels and land on it. Impressive ^^
Rodney has always been the most humble dude. He's probably still sitting in his house wondering how he got so famous doing tricks on a skateboard and thinking 'I can't believe they pay me this much'
Didn't bail once, Legend.
Man, Rodney Mullens consistency is insane, he just did a bagilion tricks in 3,5 minutes and landed every one of them

On flat ground, no props, no gimmicks. Sadly, that's maybe 10% in his bag and probably forgotten enough to make another timed routine. I didn't see much of his older runs, 2 board stuff. His balance was like a robot.
This was over 30 YEARS AGO. If Mullen was 23 years old right now, flatgrounding at this level, he'd still be among the absolute best.

if he was 23 now skateboarding would probably not be where it is right now. rodney created the foundations of almost every pop trick which is used today

@@ferdiemiddleton8910 While true it's worth noting there's often a misconception where people act like without the inventor of X we'd never have it. "If it weren't for Tesla (/edison) we'd have no lights!" No, we'd have lights. We'd just get them like a year later. Rodney invented an insane amount of shit and I'm certain skateboarding would be behind where it is today, but I'm also certain everything he invented would have been invented still by now, by other people. Just later and slower.
Man, Mullen was my idol as a kid in the early 2000s. For some reason I could never ollie, so I just did flatground like Rodney and used my hands to pull my board up. I might not have been able to kickflip, but I could hold a truckstand for longer than anyone I skated with, and was the only one who could casper spin. I miss those days.
I bet nobody in the world can replicate what you just witnessed him do as "easy" tricks for the camera..... He is a God on a skateboard.
Wow! Rodney Mullen in Manchester! 🤯
filmed outside the old BBC studios on Oxford Road in Manchester... damn I wish I could have been old enough to watch at the time

I remember watching this at the time and recording it on vhs then watching it to death, still got it somewhere. I think I was 9 or 10 and had never seen a skate video just skated with some locals who could do a few tricks so this blew my mind 🤯 so good.
how can you not love rodney! hes such a chill guy who basically invented skateboarding tricks, the double fingerflip was imsane too!
Smooth lines with ease. *sigh* I can only dream of doing such things.
Totally expected the reporter to be a middle aged dude in a suit by the sound of his voice. Lol
This had to of been right at the end of the 80's. Rodney had a distinct pattern of tricks he would do at shows and there's ones here I've never seen because right after the 80's this form of skateboard trick competition virtually vanished in favor of street skating....by street skating I'm not talking about what he's doing here. It's more tricks done while riding like grinds on rails etc. This was clearly just before he switched to regular street skating for videos....his dress style radically changed as well. It's honestly bizarre how a mere turn of a decade can have such drastic changes in everything! Thanks for posting this video!
Rodney Mullen is without a doubt the godfather of street skating
HE IS JUST INSANE! JUST ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLY INSANE ON A SKATEBOARD AND HES THE NICEST GUY. the true champion
those kids in the back are probably like, Bloody hell! I’m absolutely chuffed to be skating next to the Ledge Rodney with my mates!
Rodney Mullen is untouchable. The best.
Doesn't matter what happens. Rodney Mullen is my favourite skater of all time.
He's like two different people in front of a mic and on the board What a fucking master... at age 23
mullen doesn’t ride a skateboard, he dances with it
I love seeing him do his halfcab nosehook impossible, it has to be his signature trick. Like hosois Christ air, cabs backside boneless, or McGills mctwist.
Whoever wrote that title “PAUSE” 😂😂
Always had some of the coolest tricks and lines. Would love to see a new skate video from him but i respect if its hard to skate like that at his age now
I remember this & him being on ‘This Morning’ around the same time
The scary thing is, as good as he is on this video, he got better than this. MUCH better.

Yea and idk how you get much better than this here. I just wonder how he can think of so many tricks. I know tricks are like endless to think of but it's like when you think he couldn't blow your mind anymore on the next trick because of all the ones you see he just did and yet he still thinks of one we haven't seen and that blows our minds. His creativeness and his balance on the board is like impeccable lol

I can’t imagine what that must have looked like to people back then. Sheesh. Prob like someone today sprouting wings and flying in circles now. Ha

Omg!!! Thps2 good times
Good that they got the skateboard suspension sorted
My favourite board ever Rocco bear and Rodney mutt they need to make them like that again 🛹
amazing
Excellent! Hahaa
2:21 actually kinda rare to see Rodney do an M-80
There's a style of trick in there, 2:20 that is a variant of something no one really does anymore with the lateral flips. They weren't high diff but when installed right with a zero effort look are extra cheese. But Rodney here, takes the old trick, added to it, squared it and made it out of reach for most mortal humans 😂 He was the kind of guy who was so nice, so smooth, made you want to go burn your board. Kind of like Eddie VH made you want to sell your guitar HAHA! Cool times for sure. I can see this was a transitional time, it had a double kick. Rodney did this stuff on a flat board with single tail when he was 14-15? He was a phenom and the standard for flat a long time.
og...yes!
