Ray, I 100% agree. Rodney was the best comic I ever saw live. Way better than Carlin or Bobcat. And this roast was a disgrace to Rodney's legacy. It shows me that people like Seinfeld, Barr, Allen, Clay, Carrey, Foxworthy have no loyalty or appreciation for what he did for them. I'm an amateur comedian & my focus is impressions. I met Godtfried last year & did my impression of him, Yoda & Jim Carey. I had Gilbert laughing. When I told him I was an unknown comic and asked him for help. He got all quiet and depressed and said No. I'm sure If it was Rodney, he would of helped me.

@@stevesewall It may not show in this video but Rodney had more respect than leaders of the world. He himself was sad due to a lost childhood. Little love at the time grew to create a big super heart for us to be loved and entertained. It's our hearts that now need to be loved in trying times the kind we have today. We not only need love and laughter, all before it is ever forgotten but we need to think for ourselves. This man did a lot of observing and thinking and told no one. He did one other thing. He followed his dream. If we can't do it full time, then we should consistently do it part-time non-stop.

Well OK, but Rodney deserves better than most of this. For years I've been looking for a brilliant 5 minute monologue he did at this (or some other) roast that aired around 2002 - 2004. It was mostly about what it''s like to be a comedian, small time and big time. Advice to young would-be comedians. Like, be prepared. It was so honest and direct - an expose of show business, yet a business he still loved - I couldn't believe I was hearing it on TV. He talked about what it was like to be him, no holds barred. What a man, I've loved and respected him ever since. Anyone recall it, or know where it can be found?

Imagine a time when comedy giants like Rodney graced our tv screens and making us ALL laugh for hours. I miss those days for sure. They were much better than these days where we have to listen divisive media outlets talking nonstop about a sham presidential impeachment lead by a bunch of lying corrupt and hateful politicians. Enough of that and on with the roast!

@@donovanlight6278 I’ll grant you, he created and starred in a comedy geared to children, but as a standup he isn’t worthy to stand in Rodney’s shadow. Similarly Steve Allen was a TV star of the 50’s with some carry over into the 60’s, he hadn’t done anything significant in decades and he was never known for his standup. Compare this roast with the big, prime time affairs with huge stars and it really pales badly. Rodney should have been “honored” 15-20 years ago, when the big names were still alive.
