This shows that not only did Carl have an awesome voice and great guitar skills, but he was also an outstanding musical director. God I miss him!

when Brian stayed home creating all that music in the studio who do you think was the musical director on the road?
That chord change after "wicked waters" = what a beautiful punch in the heart. Brian Wilson = pure Genius.
One of my favorite songs of all time. A true rock anthem!

A true hidden gem.
Wonderful concert performance! Love Carl's backing Rodney. Thanks for sharing!
I saw The Beach Boys perform all of Holland in about 1971, fun concert, Mike Love was so wasted, me & two my best friends (all of us teen girls) held Mike up throughout the concert. I got tha album Holland and played the tracks off, till it was stolen. Replaced it with CD about 11 years ago. Rodney Crowell is one of my favorites, so it was a no brainer to watch and enjoy this. Yes I saw Carl & Brian, but Rodney was great!

Mike Love is my least favorite BB. And the least talented.
Thank you Rodney! Sail on, sailor.⛵⛵⛵
Carl is just too gorgeous for words.
Thank You!
Rodney sounded great!
True....grew up with Blondie Chaplain's vocal.....remember it on the radio....HE took it to a level that made it worth remembering.
GREAT to see Rodney, Carl, Brian, and even Bruce, altogether here.
Great combination with Rodney singing this beautiful song with the band. I love hearing other musicians sing this song; however, Blondie is my favorite.
Decent performance, but no one will EVER top Blondie Chaplain's vocal on this song.

❤❤❤ Blondie! I'm guessing you're a fan- how did Blondie get his nickname anyway? Irony?
This is awesome!!!!
Dave Wary..if you don't know who Rodney Crowell is.. then you have no basis to comment on his singing. He is one the great Texas songwriters. His new collaboration with Emmylou Harris is fantastic. Any idea who she is? This is a TOUGH song to sing. The Beach Boys would have not asked him if THEY did not think he could do it. Wonderful rendition.

Sorry, Dickiie Betts. Never heard of him, but he can sure do with a haircut !🙄
can't believe this was left off the album
Los coros de Carl Wilson son increíbles.
Really good.
Nice job, powerful
Very nice
hey thanks for that info ,I did not know that it would have been another 2 years , I had seen a comment on another video saying it was the year Carl had passed..well I do take it back ..thanks again
I remembered his comment. It's always are you a Beetles or a Stones "person." It should be that AND or a Beach Boys "person" because they are truly great, and seem to have a song of their own to match any of the great Beetles or Stones songs in their own style. They just didn't have a British accent at the time and that was cool. The Beetles and the Stones know it too.
Thanks for posting this version of the great Beach Boys classic. The sheet music for the original piano part on "Sail On Sailor" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.
To the haters. Every song an artist first performs becomes their child. Like protective parents they can become quite protective.
Rodney aced this!!!
RIP Carl.
Nothing's better than the original...and when played in context of the entire album, "Holland"... nothing... Like Rodney said; :You can't make these songs be what they're not...which is you can't make these songs not be great."
Michael on bass!
Sexiest song ever!!
@relimes He was getting into the music.
Fun to watch Carl orchestrate the session but sad to see Brian in such distress. {Click BB45s for rare Beach Boys archives}
And who was that drummer?
This was 1996. The much loved CDW died in 1998. Why do people say things that are not true when the facts are simply a click away? I don't get it.
Sting said the same thing brother. Once they grow up you need to let go... ;o)
Im always disappointed when the soloist doesn't sing, "DAMN the thunder" like Blondie does.
4:55 is that Alan Gorrie from Average White Band?

Nice but nobody sings like Blondie Chaplin!!
man- at least let Carl have a damn guitar - its bad enough the backing band is blanding up the song -but - poor Carl is there sort of half-conducting things - trying to pump life into the song- the vocals are fine....
this was made same year carl died ,,..sad
And what is Brian doing over there swaying around with a frowned face like a bobble head?
