Thank you Ben for this wonderful tribute to Rod. I have never heard him sing before tonight but have most of his poetry books. Don't know what I was doing in the 60's and 70's but I should have been listening to Rod!

First listened to Carl Yarborough singing Rod McKuen songs way back on my first phase of military training. Still brings me back to that young 17 year old wondering what happens next in life. Still wondering and still enjoying his songs.

Do you mean Glenn Yarbrough? He had beautiful voice, perfect for Rod's songs.

Ben, thank you so much for sharing this tribute to Rod with us. I'm a bit of a latecomer to your page, but I hope you will see my comment. I worked as a secretary to Neely Plumb, manager of RCA Record Division in Hollywood in the mid-late 60s. Rod was one of Neely's recording artists and he and I got to know one another quite well over those years. I still have a postcard he sent me from Europe one year, and my last letter from him was in '73 after returning from a lengthy worldwide tour. He said he was tired and "never again," but he must have regrouped - at least for a while. Rod was a dear friend - and I still miss him. Thank you, again (even though it brought tears)!

@@benvaughn5709 I adored Neely (such a gentleman and so smart and talented), and Eve was my ring bearer when I married Foy Willing, November 6, 1966. There's a photo of her, Foy and myself, along with the minister in my book, "No One to Cry To," which is Foy's biography (and a bit of an autobiography). If I may blow a small horn: the revised edition is available on Amazon as a paperback or Kindle. My RCA days are included. Thanks for commenting back to me!

Rod had many dogs and cats throughout his life. I had occasion to visit his home, invited to have lunch with him and Eddie Habib in July, 1966. He signed copy #63 of his Stanyan Street and Other Sorrows book for me. Still a treasure. Rod's mother eventually adopted Eddie, who then became Rod's adopted brother until their deaths.
