This is a song Rod McKuen performed during the "MAX Prom Concert" on December 10 and 11, 2005 in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, Netherlands. The show was recorded and broadcasted by Dutch television.
This is a non-profit tribute to Rod McKuen; a great poet, singer, actor, and a wonderful human being.

Hearing Mckuen's voice always gives me chills; I love this man, and may he R.I P. Life passes by so quickly. Enjoy it please, folks, and never take it for granted.
My father loved this mans voice. He would put a record on and listen to him back when families would sit in living rooms and talk, play games, and ask each other about their day. Thank you.
One of my favorite musicians. An era of real creativity. Went to his concert at Durban city hall in 1978. Have never forgotten his rendition of " Ballard of the black eagle" RIP Rod
I grew up with this mans poetry his voice. Such talent. In the 60s I had most if his books & recordings. Now nearly 80 yes I read everyday his poetry & thanks to the internet can listen & watch R M over & over again. So much pleasure.......
One of the most powerful songs I've ever experienced.
Astonishing. His translation of this song is simply beautiful. I had the good fortune to see him in concert in London many many years ago. I also went to one of his book signings. He asked me my name and when I told him it's Rosemary he said That's a very pretty name' and dedicated the book to me and drew a flower on the page. I look at it every so often and remember him. Tears running down my cheeks. Such a lovely man.

Had been in love with Rod McKuen ever since I discovered his poetry and music in the early 70's. He was, and still to me, unique. Will hold him in my heart forever.

I loved his songs in San Francisco when I was a young woman and never forgot his music or poetry, especially loved the songs with Jacques Brel. Rest in peace rod.

Very very moving and just so wonderful
They're lovely and reflective. I can see why academics and others in ivory towers uniformly were rough on his work, but it's more revealing of their deficits than his. People loved his work -it touched something in their memory or wishes that they could relate to in an emotional sense.

As I watched life ebb away from my Loving wife of 47 years, this song captured my internal self

There is such emotion here, like her leaving is taking his life. It's almost as if this is a prequel to the events in Seasons in the Sun, where her leaving slowly ebbs his life away as the sun goes down.

I totally agree...Rod McKuen may have wrote the lyrics buy he can't sing. Try YouTubing Neil Diamonds version and let me know what you think....
