Rod Liddle takes down Glastonbury 'airheads' and BBC bias

Major railway stations are much quieter than normal as services were crippled by thousands of railway workers staging their second strike of the week.
It comes as Glastonbury festival-goers “may need to take shelter if they can” as thunderstorms are set to sweep across much of southern England, a Met Office meteorologist has warned.
The head of Ofcom has said the BBC needs to be “much more transparent and open with its audiences” in relation to the way it handles complaints and perceptions of impartiality.
The UK’s media watchdog has been reviewing the broadcaster’s performance as they approach the mid-point in the BBC’s Charter period.

Music has been political for the last century at least, going right back to early blues. Some of the all time greats have had politics in their lyrics, including Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Cypres Hill, The Clash, The Damned, Iron Maiden (rock is my thing and what I know) and thousands of others. The vast majority of acts are left wing, there are some on the right (Elvis, Lyntrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock) but not so many despite the oppertunities being equal (Elvis was the biggest earning musician of all time).

I've been to Glastonbury many times since 1994 and there is no stereotype to cover the crowd. There's over 200,000 people there. The crusty hippies are rare now. The majority are just average people maybe a bit above average income (it's very expensive for tickets) and they like music. Thats about it really. I hate the pyramid stage, even at the front you're a long way from the stage. All my best experiences have been in some tent watching a band I've never heard of before that I heard while wandering past and thought "that sounds good". My worst experience was inhaling someones dreadlock while watching some punk band back in the late 90's. It can get muddy there at times but what you see on tv is the very worst corner of the festival site while the rest of it isn't half as bad

Here here. Glastonbury was great in the 80's and early 90's when indeed the crusty's were there in their battered lorries and coaches. I met some fantastic people and had some great times with those folk. Met some great musicians, artist's, ate some great food and drank some fantastic home made scrumpy. Really good memories. And your right about the smaller tents, unknown bands with some truly great musicians and singers. My worst experience? Can't remember what year but it rained and rained and rained and i didn't take my boot's or wet clothes off for 4 days and i suffered for it. My best glasto experience? 1995 right up at the front watching the beautiful P J Harvey in a tight pink catsuit doing her stuff. Amazing, what a woman!

@@clouddog2393 I disagree and appreciate your comments. The seeds of ugliness were planted in the 1960s and progressively got worse. Though everybody today has the energy to make their world for themselves better. People tend to look back wistfully and I think it is based on being younger. The number of people in the 1960s and 1970s and into the 1980s who were not encouraged to do certain careers because of their sex, they couldn't get on with their life because they were never going to marry or live with someone of the opposite sex. Many living a miserable double life. People bullied more so in the workplace and nobody would listen and it wasn't all banter. People afraid to tell someone or seek help incase they were not believed. Everything brushed under the carpet. That was damaging for generations of people who today carry it with them. The amount of serial killers that shocked and horrified people and the horrific Manson murders in 1969. The war's, riots. One could go on. Each decade brings it's challenges. Each decade has incredibly wonderful moments too. One cannot compare each decade I personally believe. It is what it is.
